25.01.2022 The next few days are going to be very hot please be mindful of Heat-related illnesses which include heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. These condi...tions can occur when we are exposed to extreme heat and our body can no longer cool itself or function effectively Some of the factors that contribute to heat-related illness include: Heatwaves three or more days of high maximum and minimum temperatures that are unusual for the location or time of year Overexercising, particularly in hot conditions Wearing heavy, tight clothing in hot environments Lack of airflow, confined spaces, and crowded conditions, such as concerts and sporting events Exposure to radiant heat from bushfires Being in a parked car, particularly in hot conditions. Heat-related illness can affect anyone, but those at greatest risk include: Older people, particularly the frail and those living alone Babies and young children People with existing medical conditions People on certain medications, especially fluid tablets People on fluid-restricted diets People who use recreational drugs. Heat-related illnesses can be prevented. It’s important to be prepared for extreme heat, especially if you have existing medical conditions. Remember to: Stay hydrated Stay out of the heat as much as possible Keep your space cool with circulating air Wear weather-appropriate clothing and protect yourself from sun damage Rest often and save strenuous activities for the cooler parts of the day Monitor for signs of heat-related illness and act promptly Check in on others, especially those who are older, sick or frail.

20.01.2022 With all the devastating bush fires, air quality has been affected and we have seen an increase in patients requiring asthma puffers. Please be aware that asthma reliever puffers are available over the counter without a prescription. Please speak to your pharmacist if you have recently been experiencing any shortness of breath, cough or wheezing. Stay safe everyone!

19.01.2022 Just received this from the TGA. If you have received this medication from us (or any other pharmacy), please check the batch number (or bring it in if unsure). If it is one of the affected batches, please bring it back to the pharmacy and we can swap it over. Don't be alarmed if this is the case. We have had a car come through the main entrance of the pharmacy so until it's repaired access needs to be via the back of the building. Thankfully no one was injured during this accident! 11.01.2022 In line with today's WA Government announcement, Berrigan Family Medical Centre is taking all possible precautions to protect our Patients, GP’s and Staff We a...re implementing some changes in the clinic and ask patients to be understanding of them. Masks are mandatory when presenting to the clinic. You must arrive with a mask on. The clinic will not be supplying masks to Patients. Please understand WE WILL NOT be seeing anyone without a mask on. If you do not need to actually see a GP then we encourage you to make a telehealth appointment instead. To help limit the number of patients in the clinic at a time, we ask that you arrive on time for your appointment, otherwise we may ask you to wait outside in your car until your appointment. Please note only ONE other person is permitted to attend the appointment with you. However if you have children just let reception know and we will organise something for you As we are an appointment-based clinic we will not be taking Walk In appointments so you may be asked to come later when an appointment is free. It would be best to call before just coming in. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. We are making these changes with our patients and our staff's health in mind. 08.01.2022 We are pleased to advise that Medicare now permits telehealth consults for patients that have attended Berrigan Family Medical in the last 12 months and meet th...e following criteria: (a) the person has been diagnosed with COVID-19 virus but who is not a patient of a hospital; or (b) the person has been required to isolate themselves in quarantine in accordance with home isolation guidance issued by Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC); or (c) the person is considered more susceptible to the COVID-19 virus being a person who is: (i) at least 70 years old; or (ii) at least 50 years old and is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; or (iii) is pregnant; or (iv) is a parent of a child under 12 months; or (v) is already under treatment for chronic health conditions or is immune compromised; or (d) the person meets the current national triage protocol criteria for suspected COVID-19 infection.
