While ...NSW Department of Primary Industries is working to confirm the diagnosis, we are asking farmers to be regularly monitoring their crops. 16.01.2022 September Mayors Message With Victoria now getting on top of the daily COVID-19 cases let’s hope that the regional Victoria will continue to open up so that farmers, business and families can start to live in the new normal. We have done such a good job in adhering to the rules and with the border bubble being extended has allowed many workers, business and those that need to travel for school and medical appointments to start to resume normal live. Daily Life permits are ...now available. As the regions and hopefully the borders reopen we will all need to play by the rules. Physically distance, good hand hygiene and stay home and get tested if you have symptoms. By playing by the rules this will protect our communities and allow us to get back to a new normal. Community winter sport was able to be played in a restricted format in the Picola League. This allowed many girls and boys to experience some normality through training and playing. Congratulations to all those who participated and credit goes to all players, supporters, volunteers and coaches who were able to run this completion so successfully. With the NSW local government elections being postponed this means that our councillors term has been extended a further year. I’d like to thank all councillors for your commitment to your communities and look forward to continuing to work collaboratively over the next year. Harvest is just around the corner and this will be a busy time for our farmers and those involved in agriculture. With the tenders being now accepted we look forward to the Tocumwal Foreshore building getting underway. Demolition of the old building is expected to start early in October. This is an exciting opportunity for our Shire and Tocumwal and with restrictions going in the right direction this new development will be an important addition to Tocumwal and our visitor economy. Stay safe

15.01.2022 Attention: Finley Residents Please be aware that contractors are currently replacing the raw water pipes in Coree St, Finley. As a result, the following streets will have interrupted supply of raw (outside) water today: Wells Street Quirk Street McDonald Court... There has also been an overflow of water dispersed in the main street of Finley. Our Team is currently onsite working hard to rectify this issue.

14.01.2022 Earlier this week our Mayor was presented with a cheque for $60,000 by the Tocumwal Foreshore Committee as a contribution to a new sewer system at Town Beach Town Beach is an incredibly popular location for campers and grey nomads looking to enjoy the Murray River and our beautiful scenery. This popularity, however, has the potential to create health and environmental issues when campers discharge their grey water at the beach especially at peak periods. The brand new syste...m will alleviate this concern by installing grey water discharge points that also have access to town water, and capturing this runoff for it to be treated properly. The installation cost of this project is $125,000 with the Tocumwal Foreshore Committee providing $60,000 of this cost. It is great to see the camping fees and donations being put back into projects that will benefit the Town Beach camping area for the greater future. We once again thank the committee for their generous contribution.

13.01.2022 Attention: Finley Residents Contractors are currently working on the raw water main in Coree St Finley today. As a result, raw (outside) water will be unavailable for those residents in Coree St, Wells St & McNamara St. We apologise for any inconvenience.

11.01.2022 The Riverina and Murray Joint Organization board met in Albury recently to discuss issues that impact us all on a regional basis. Many exciting things are happening. A new co-operative waste management arrangement to get better outcomes for our waste products across the RAMJO footprint has been undertaken. On the local front, Coree Street redevelopment in underway and whilst there may be some disruptions through the civil works it will be a welcomed upgrade. The Tocumwal Avia...tion Museum building continues to progress. We look forward to seeing the finished product and enjoying the many visitors this will bring to our communities. All swimming pools are now open and recent upgrades to two of our pools will bring many hours of enjoyment over the summer months. Also, it’s good to see the Main Street of Finley undergoing some painting refurbishments. This will give those businesses who are participating a fresh look to their exterior. There are many projects across our shire that are progressing and numerous ones that will be commencing soon. The LED light replacements at our Recreation Reserves with be welcomed by the committees of management and those who use these facilities. Our council had a recent presentation around flood plain harvesting in the Northern Basin. This has been unregulated and continues to put pressure on the Southern Basin. All those who have an investment in irrigated agriculture, as well as our communities as a whole, need to pay attention to this and advocate to our politicians as this needs to be corrected not sanctioned. I also recently attended the Ladies on the Land luncheon. This event was held to raise awareness of the significant involvement and impact our ladies have on the agricultural sector. The Red Cross hosted the event and all that attended had an enjoyable day. Stay safe.
