23.01.2022 Converting from one Rugby football code to the other is not unheard of in Australia with a few famous code hoppers like Wendell Sailor, Mat Rogers and LoteTuqiri becoming dual internationals. What is probably more impressive is code flippers like young Matthew Parkes who flips effortlessly between Rugby League and Rugby Union on a daily basis. During June, the talented Year 9 Chevalier College student played in the NSWCIS (Combined Independent Schools) Under 15 team at the Au...stralian School Boys Rugby Union Championships on the Gold Coast. This was the first team to ever make a final, unfortunately going down to NSWCCC (Combined Catholic Colleges). Flipping to Rugby League, he was also selected in the NSWCIS Under 15 Rugby League team for the Australian Championships and then back to Union, Matthew was also selected in the Under 15 Country Rugby Union team to play at the Australian Championships. This year Matthew, who was voted as the Berrima District Sports Awards Junior monthly winner for June, has also represented Group 6 in Rugby League. At a time when there is often pressure for young people to make a choice when they are competing at an elite level, it is fabulous that Matthew can enjoy and excel in two sports that he loves. 21.01.2022 The Senior medal winner for September is Colin Clarson. Colin travelled to Mackay in Queensland for the Oceanic Masters Games meeting athletes from seventeen countries including New Zealand, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Cook Islands. Though the heat of Mackay was challenging, he felt he coped quite well with an extremely busy schedule. Colin competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m running events over the five days. Competing against world class runners in the 55-60 years ag...e category, Colin was elated to come home with a bronze medal for the 800m and a silver for the 400m events. A highlight was being selected for the Australian 4 x 100m relay team and placing second. He was well supported by his wife Karen during the games and credits his fitness coach Dolly Moule, of Out There Fun and Fitness, for his excellent preparation going into the event. Colin trains and competes with the Illawarra Blue Stars in Wollongong and now turns his attention to the State Relay Championships. See more

20.01.2022 How ironic it must be for John and Sandra Mineeff to sit beside their son Lachlan as he works towards meeting the 120 mandatory hours to be eligible to sit for his Provisional licence. When they are not watching the speedometer to ensure he doesn’t sneak over the 90km hour NSW learners limit, they are watching him tear around race tracks across the country at speeds of up to 250 km/hr. The sixteen year old Oxley College student is competing in the Australian National Formula ...Ford series and, in May, climbed the podium for the first time as third place getter in Race 3 of the second Round held at the Queensland Raceway. Skip to Round 4 and Lachlan leapt up the podium to first place in Race 3 at the South Australian ‘The Bend’ Motorsport Park. Lachlan and his team CHE Racing has upped the ante this year entering a car in the Toyota 86 Race Series which are longer in duration. With much of his time spent on and around racing tracks, Lachlan is, not surprisingly, studying relatable subjects for his HSC. Physics, Engineering, Economics and Business Studies should provide a solid base for what may well be a career in professional motor racing. May 2019 saw a three way tie for the junior award with Lachlan sharing it with fellow Oxley College student Joel Manton and Moss Vale High School’s Liam Hinchcliffe. See more

The Dart Players Australia League attracts players from all around Australia and New Zealand and, as Tremaine qualified second in the youth rankings for the year, he was offered a spot on the Australian team. He is one step closer to realising his dream to become a permanent player in England and play in the World Championships. See more

Initially, Darcy and his twin brother Jack were both selected in the NSWCIS squad following games at Bankstown. Once in the squad there was a long selection process throughout June involving a 3 day training camp at Sydney Academy of Sport and two trial games. A believer in ‘Happyism’, i.e. to be a happy person, do what makes you happy and do what you can to make others happy, he has immersed himself in sport and outdoor pursuits and shared his passion and optimistic outlook with countless others as a Physical Education and Outdoor Educator. 09.01.2022 To say that Maggie Fuller lives and breathes polocrosse is an understatement. The 11 year old Exeter Public School student has already notched up 10 carnivals this year and the season only kicked off in March. Polocrosse is in Maggie’s genes as her grandfather, parents and sister Zoe are all current or former players. The Berrima District Sports Award Junior winner for April had a supremely successful month which started at the Bungendore Carnival and ended at the Sydney Roya...l Easter Show. As there weren’t enough sub juniors (under 12 year olds), Maggie was placed in a team with other youngsters and entered in the E Grade Open division at the Bungendore Carnival. The juniors and intermediates, representing a variety of clubs, came away with the trophy. Maggie then turned her attention to competing at the Sydney Royal Easter Show where she was one of twelve players who were selected state wide to play in the Sub Junior division. Over two days, Maggie and her pony Miller competed in a four game series and came away undefeated. She also took home the Encouragement Award. When not galloping around a paddock wielding a racquet on a horse, Maggie enjoys attending Pony Club, in the polocrosse off season, and representing Exeter Public School in as many sports as possible. 09.01.2022 It was not enough for Sutton Forest’s Steve Robertson to have the traditional Enduro qualities of endurance and navigational expertise to qualify as one of only two Australians to qualify for the Merzouga Rally in Morocco. The Berrima District Sports Award’s Senior March winner also needed speed, strength and mechanical know how. Steve competed in the first ever Australian KTM Ultimate Race Qualification event which was hosted alongside the high-profile Transmoto 12-Hour even...t at Batemans Bay. The riders also engaged in a series of off-bike challenges including the Bike Lift, Wheel Change and Navigation/Waypoints, as well as a pair of timed on-bike Special Tests. The results were so close that the top five competitors each carried out a ‘hot lap’ timed test of the entire Transmoto 12-Hour circuit to determine the final two. In Morocco, Steve will receive factory rider treatment and will be equipped with factory-prepared KTM 790 Adventure R models throughout the event’s duration, while also benefiting from coaching by KTM adventure ambassadors. Steve says I hope to be consistent, safe and ride strong. With an enduro background and the ability to ride tough conditions, I am excited to see the end result! See more
