14.01.2022 WINGS OVER ILLAWARRA 2020 CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 After consultation with NSW Health, the organisers of Wings Over Illawarra 2020, Mark and Kerry Bright, have made the heart-breaking decision to cancel the 2020 event which was due to take place in November 2020. Originally set for May 2020, Wings Over Illawarra was postponed to November in the hope the current COVID-19 situation would have eased sufficiently for the event to take place. Unfortunately, this is not the case.... Over the years we have faced many challenges with fire destroying our previous business, the Aviator Lounge, which was a restaurant based at the Shellharbour Airport; unprecedented wind in 2014, the first year we took over Wings Over Illawarra; floods in 2015 forcing us to cancel Wings Over Illawarra; and of course rain last year, but this has been by far our greatest challenge, said Mark Bright, event director. With the postponement from May to November, it was hoped that the health risk of the Coronavirus pandemic would have eased sufficiently for Wings Over Illawarra 2020 to proceed. Many months of planning go into an event such as this, and in 2020 we have had to plan twice to consider the extra infrastructure that we believed would be necessary for the November event. After lengthy discussions with NSW Health, it became apparent that we would be unable to safely proceed with the event in 2020. The bottom line is that the safety and health of our staff, volunteers, attendees, exhibitors, stallholders and participants is paramount and, with the current advice from NSW Health, we are unable to proceed with the November event. said Mark. We are now forging ahead with Wings Over Illawarra 2021 and have set the dates for the 13th and 14th November 2021 with a STEM day planned for the 12th November 2021. Having the event in May 2021 was considered, but we did not want to find ourselves in the same situation again with the pandemic not completely under control. All tickets that have already been purchased for the 2020 event will be re-issued in the coming weeks with the new dates. We apologise for any inconvenience and ask our ticket holders for their patience during these unprecedented times.

04.01.2022 What a stunning country New Zealand is! Ride along as I spread a load of fertiliser on coastal farmland. I'll talk things through as I go. Aircraft is Cresco wi...th 1800kgs of fertiliser on board. -The clicker I talk about is the load counter. -If the aircraft didn't have a hydraulic hopper I would be holding the handle shut while the load is tipped in, if it's too fast it can blow the doors open. -Block planning on hill country can be quite a headache, especially if you get it wrong! The general idea, and what I have done on this video, is to split the block into two runs. The first done on the low lands and the second, once the aircraft is lighter, faster and more maneuverable, done up high. Enjoy!

04.01.2022 Club BBQ this Sunday (February 23rd) at 12:30pm. Visitors welcome. Please let us know if you are planning to attend so we can plan the catering.

03.01.2022 Our presence at these heli-bases frees up the Fire and Rescue NSW or NSW Rural Fire Service crews to go on and attack the fires. - Corporal Nathan Rigby, Fir...e Fighter, No. 22 Squadron Nathan and other Air Force fire fighters are supporting NSW RFS fire fighting helicopter refuelling operations at Picton, New South Wales and Mittagong, New South Wales as part of #YourADF Operation Bushfire Assist. This task would normally be performed by the RFS. Supplying these Air Force fire fighters, with their specialised aviation refuelling experience, has allowed the RFS to send more people to assist closer to the fires.
