A group of old school friends had just started parkrun so I went along with them. There were none in Logan at the time so I alternated between Wynnum and Sandgate... How many runs and volis have you got? 325 runs & 50 vollies Your favourite volunteer role? I love them all for various reasons but Time Keeper is up there. Seeing everybody cross the finish line, some having fun, others jumping, some giving their all - it's amazing to see. Everybody has completed 5km no matter their finish time and I love encouraging everybody over the line. What makes Berrinba parkrun special for you? The community atmosphere is like no other. Everybody I know who has come to Berrinba parkrun has commented on the feel there. There may be many different friendship groups but we all come together on a Saturday morning and especially when it counts #strongertogether Have you parkrun touristed? And if so what is your favourite course? Plenty of parkrun tourisms! I have to say The Beaches is my favourite course. Running the entire 5km on sand was an awesome challenge and I love the many variables involved with that parkrun event. One thing that keeps you coming back week after week? 100% the people! Outside of parkrun what keeps you busy? Work, gym and housework

Your favourite volunteer role? Probs marshaling.... I like that you get to see everyone and also get the run. Although, Mandi Swanson and I have nailed the timekeeper role. Meadowbrook would be my favoutite outside of Berrinba. One thing that keeps you coming back week after week? The atmosphere is amazing. Happy people enjoying everyone's company and all there with the same goal. Enjoyment (I think. Except when trying for a PB and you have had enough, but you have to press on) Outside of parkrun what keeps you busy? Enjoy going away camping when I can and doing a bit of Hiking or Mountain bike riding.

07.01.2022 Brooke Bregg When did you first start parkrun? 12 March 2016 at Yarrabilba parkrun. Why did you first start parkrun? I went along with a friend as I on a health kick for fitness. We walked it in 56:11 and it kicked off an addiction!!!... How many runs and vollies have you got? I am lucky to have 129 run and 28 volunteer positions. Im currently on the Berrinba parkrun events team and loving it. Your favourite volunteer role? I recently became a Volunteer Coordinator at Berrinba and just love it. Especially the first timers brief to see all those faces that are joining us for the first time. Next best would be photographing all those runners getting air! What makes Berrinba parkrun special for you? Berrinba parkrun is such a family friendly parkrun. The course is wonderful and shady, and the people support like family. So welcoming! It still holds my PB and most of my PBs along the way have been set there, especially on pacer week. They lift you up and carry you all the way to the finish line. Have you parkrun touristed? And if so what is your favourite course? I have attended 24 different locations and was completing my parkrun alphabet before it went on break. Apart from home I think my second favorite is Forest Lake. It was very scenic and I had to remind myself I was in the suburbs still. Its nearly like a rainforest! One thing that keeps you coming back week after week? Its my social outing each week!! Haha!! Its not always about the run, its about the people and the time away from my kids ;) Outside of parkrun what keeps you busy? Im a mum to two ENERGETIC kids, plus work full time and try to squeeze in a run when I can. Oh and wine .., and Im also a famous TikToker ... but thats just since the parkrun break!!
06.01.2022 Jim Chalmers When did you first start parkrun? Thanks!... First run early 2015 (visited December 2014 but had a rolled ankle and couldnt gallop!) Why did you first start parkrun? Has been into running for a while, wanted to tap into the local scene a bit more, and heard great things about parkrun, so I emailed Adam Shannon and he was really encouraging to me as he has been to so many runners for a long time now. How many runs and volis have you got? 45 runs (a bit embarrassing over 5 years I know) and 2 vollies (even more so!). Your favourite volunteer role? I liked being the timekeeper because you see the satisfaction on peoples faces when they cross. What makes Berrinba parkrun special for you? It is such a supportive, encouraging, uplifting group of people. All speeds and talents and ages. Absolutely brilliant way to start the weekend. Have you parkrun touristed? Yep done Calamvale and Underwood a few times and Meadowbrook once. And really enjoy running Torrens in South Australia with my father in law Mando, who is a really handy runner and has a good crew there and great scenery along the river. One thing that keeps you coming back week after week? If work and young kids responsibilities permit, it is just a terrific way to catch up with nice people and get something healthy done to start the weekend. And enjoy seeing people meet and exceed their own expectations. Outside of parkrun what keeps you busy? Three kids 5 and under keep me on my toes and a fairly demanding job that I love but outside of that I like reading and a beer or two on the back deck to relax.
06.01.2022 JAN FORRESTER When did you first start parkrun? 26 July 2014 Why did you first start parkrun? Katrina Appleton talked me into it.The conversation went a bit like this. Kat "Hey Jan you should join a thing called "parkrun" it's starting next week at the Berrinba Wetlands" Me "That sounds great Kat, but you know I don't RUN I only walk" (I had been walking at the wetlands for years almost everyday...Kat "But you can WALK I will send you the link to register"... So I did register and it only took me 8 weeks to get myself there because I thought everyone would laugh at me (I actually got dressed 3 times and never got out the front door) How many WALKS and vollies have you got? 207 runs & 55 vollies Your favourite volunteer role? I loved to VC even though AGAIN I was talked into it by Katrina Appleton. I have VC'd a total of 36 times before retiring earlier this year. I loved conning (asking) people to sign up to volunteer because it's the backbone of parkrun. Without volunteers there would be no parkrun! Oh! and cake! What makes Berrinba parkrun special for you? I think it's the whole community thing. It's local . It's free . And you just get hooked! Oh! and cake! Have you parkrun touristed? And if so what is your favourite course? Yes, I have to 14 different parkruns. I think Puarenga parkrun would have to be the most unique as it's run near thermal springs on a sulphur track near the Puarenga Stream in Rotorua New Zealand. Oh! and cake! One thing that keeps you coming back week after week? The after run coffee and breakfast Oh! and cake! Outside of parkrun what keeps you busy? Work, dancing running no lights no lycra Kingston being a JP and a Marriage Celebrant Oh! and did I mention cake! Photo - having fun doing my volleying job!
06.01.2022 So, who is keen for a look at the 'limited edition' Berrinba parkrun course?? With the excitement of Logan City Council putting on the Christmas Lights Trail, we have 3 weeks of running, jogging or walking a slightly altered first km. Instead of going left at the first junction, we go straight ahead and follow the path all the way to the T junction, where we go left and shortly after that (at the next T junction), we rejoin the standard course by heading right. Don't worry th...ough, we will have marshals and chalk arrows to show you the way! Who is excited to give it a go?? We also need a few more volunteers in the coming weeks, so please feel free to let us know if you can help!
