24.01.2022 This morning, in 40 degrees plus heat, the very dedicated volunteers from Berringa Park Friends Group continued with ridding the park of toxic introduced weeds.... The section along the path which we are working on is very challenging. I don't believe humans have been in this area since the construction of the path. It is a real mixture of Brazilian Pepper, blackberry, lantana, cotton trees, fig, palm, bamboo and hibiscus trees. The next busy bee is planned for Sunday 19 January 2020, 8.30am to 10.30am along the path. See more

24.01.2022 Hi Team, I trust that you are all keeping safe... Due to the current health situation we have cancelled the April work day.... The weeds get to have a month off... We will monitor the situation and resume when appropriate to do so. In the mean time stay safe...social distance....and keep smiling. 23.01.2022 We would like as many people as possible to get involved and help restore our river back to it's former glory. Come have your say... https://epaper.communitynews.com.au//reporter_bayswater-b/

22.01.2022 Here's an opportunity to support great man in our community who has had an amazing journey... take some time to have a read and cast your vote

21.01.2022 Working Day this Sunday 15 November, 8.30am to 10.30am. Along the path between Milmoe Lane and East Street.

21.01.2022 The AGM of Berringa Park Friends Group was held last night at the Mayland's Yacht Club. It was well attended with twenty six members of the local Maylands community. The elections were held for the appointment of ten nominated committee positions which included President. Welcome to all the new committee members, and our returning Chair, Greg Pound. It was a very positive AGM with a lot of enthusiasm shown for the continued improvement of the Berringa Park weed removal and revegitation program. The next busy bee will be on the third Sunday of the month, 16 August at 8.30am to 10.30am which will entail planting along the drain.

20.01.2022 Another great morning with the volunteers at Berringa Park. In the absence of Catherine's brownies which are always are welcome favourite we were lucky enough to have some of Sally's shortbread.

19.01.2022 An update on last night's fire at Berringa Pk The fire last night burnt a much larger section of Berringa Park than what was first thought. On inspection this morning, the fire covered approximately 400 metres of the 500 metres length of the path, hopping, the path on several occasions putting several residences in danger. There may have been another ignition point as well as at Milmoe Lane and that was along the path where the grass path runs down to the river. Most of the vegetation along the path on the South side has now been cleared due to the fire.

19.01.2022 Received from from a member (not on Facebook) this week. Hi I have just been for a walk on the bike path at Berringa.... What a joy to behold. The contractors have been back and cleaned the remaining piles of cut branches and debris. They have also taken out the two very large palm trees on the river side of the path down toward East Street. It really is worth a trip to appreciate the difference we have been able to achieve. Many thanks to Alex (City of Bayswater) and the contractors for putting the icing on the cake. Berringa Bob

18.01.2022 If you're free on Sunday why not pop up and help out our friends at Bardon Park

10.01.2022 Many thanks to the volunteers who turned up to our last working day for 2020. 07.01.2022 Was another great day with the friends of Berringa Park

07.01.2022 There is a move to increase the ski zone adjacent to Berringa Park. We believe that this action may or most likely will impact on the river banks....have your say.... https://www.mysaytransport.wa.gov.au/swan-river-upper-reach

07.01.2022 The penultimate working day for 2020 saw the 15 volunteers continue to make huge inroads in removing the invasive weeds choking the native flora along the riverbank. 03.01.2022 Berringa Park was set on fire just before midnight this evening. The blaze started adjacent to Milmoe Lane and extended along the pathway towards East Street for approximately 400 metres. There also may have been another ignition point half way along the path where the grass path runs down to the river. There was a huge plume of smoke and embers. Four fire tenders attended and got the blaze under control in about two hours.

03.01.2022 It's a great way to contribute to your community....very satisfying...

03.01.2022 Well done, David Dyke

03.01.2022 Good morning to all of the Berringa Park Friends Group, "Community that cares." We have reached a milestone.... After 18 months of hard work by a dedicated band of Berringa Park Friends Group volunteers, clearing approximately 80% of the Berringa Park Wetlands river bank and mudflats entrusted to the Berringa Park Friends Group, we will have our first planting day. The Berringa Park Wetlands covers approximately 5 hectares, excluding the grassed area and one kilometer in length from the East end of the golf course boundry to East St to the West. Some of the invasive introduced trees and weeds which have populated this area and have been eradicated, include the Brazilian Pepper, Cape Lilac, Black Current, Castor Oil Trees, Date Palms, Arum Lilies, Pampas Grass, Fig, Lantana, Blackberry, Paspalum as well as several grasses. We will be planting around 2,000 plants along the Living Stream and the immediate area. Some of the species of plants to be planted include - Melaleuca Lateritia (robin redbreast) , Pericalymma Ellipticum and Taxandria Linearifolia. The details are as follows. BERRINGA PARK FRIENDS GROUP - " COMMUNITY THAT CARES" BUSY BEE - PLANTING DAY AT THE LIVING STREAM, EAST END OF BERRINGA PARK. ON SUNDAY 16 AUGUST AT 8.30AM TO 10.30AM PLEASE WARE SUITABLE CLOTHING AND SHOES Future working days will be held on the third Sunday of each month. 20th September 2020 18th October 2020 15 November 2020 It would great to see as many knew members attend and bring along their family and friends and join in a community activity to bring back the banks of the Swan River to its former glory. The Berringa Park Wetlands Conservation Plan 2020 - 2030 has now been released by the City of Bayswater which I have attached. Please have a good look and you will see just what the Group is trying to achieve in conjunction with the City of Bayswater who have been most cooperative. Special thanks to their Natural Area Coordinator officer, Alex Devine who is ever willing to assist where possible. We are in the throes of having a large banner (approximately 1500mm by 700mm made to help promote our cause especially on working days.) I have been in touch with both the Eastern Reporter and Perth Voice who will be doing a feature on the Berringa Park Friends Group and the Berringa Park Wetlands in the coming weeks. We have future plans to involve the Maylands Primary School and its students to visit Berringa and participate in some weeding/planting exercises. This was to have taken place earlier in the year until Covid-19 forced a postponement. The Berringa Park Friends Group can be followed on Facebook: www.facebook.com/BerringaPark I look forward to catching up with the familiar old faces as well as the new members who will attend on planting day, 16 August at 8.30am. Best wishes to all. David Crispin Marketing Coordinator

01.01.2022 Thank you to everybody that came today for planting along Berringa Brook. Lots of native plants got in that should give us a lovely splash of colour (and food for native animals and birds) next spring.

01.01.2022 Just over two weeks ago, the 1800 native plants planted by the Berringa Park Friends Group along the banks of the Living Stream, are doing quite well. The rain we had this week and that forecast for next week, will be most beneficial in helping the new plants to establish. We are hoping for at least an 80% survival rate, as this will make this area look amazing in the coming years. The pictures show some 'before and afters' of the Living Stream. You will see the Brazilian Pep...per tree strangling the Paperbark at the Living Stream near the walk path in an early photo from 2019 and how the Paperbark is recovering. We will be hosting a visit from the Maylands Peninsula Primary School later in the month, possibly 2 year six classes. They will be participating in weeding and re-generation planting using the gardening tools donated by the Berringa Park Friends Group. PLEASE NOTE OUR NEXT WORKING DAY WILL BE ON SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER, 8.30AM TO 10.30AM ALONG THE PATHWAY TOWARDS EAST ST. FOCUS WILL BE ON REMOVING THE LANTANA, DOLICHOS PEA CREEPER AND SWAMP HIBISCUS. Come along and bring your family and friends and join in a community activity.
