25.01.2022 Ahh the oval diamond...elongates the finger as it draws your eye down toward the nail (great for giving the illusion of longer or slender fingers). Looks much bigger than its squared or cushiony counterparts, as it’s cut shallower so the majority of the carat weight is in the spread (the length & width) and not hidden in the depth, so it provides more bang for your buck . You’re welcome

25.01.2022 Mesmerising ...for beautiful humans Alain and Jillian all the way in the USA We never got the chance to meet, but I just loved making this ring for them. So easy and lovely to correspond with, and I’m so proud she’s wearing one of my creations

22.01.2022 LOVED making this cutie pinky Signet ring for Anna. It’s the tiniest ring I’ve ever made (Size C) and I couldn’t get it anywhere near on. I loved that even though it was small, it was mighty - with chunky gold and a 0.90ct emerald-cut diamond. Badass.

21.01.2022 Radiant, Marquise or Round?

20.01.2022 When champagne and white diamonds collide. I often set our champagne diamonds in rose or yellow gold to boost up their luscious colour, and contrast it with white diamonds in platinum prongs. I loved making this asymmetrical dream for Vicki and Andrew. I balanced out the asymmetry with a cluster of champagnes on one side and a round on the other. Beauty!

20.01.2022 Up close and personal with this beauty

20.01.2022 When I set up Bert, I had a plan that if my company managed to make a profit, I would try to give back somehow. The first few years of running my own business were tough. After five years however, with your help, I've reached a point where I'm proud to say I draw a salary, pay my stone-setters a fair wage and spend a little more trying to find ethical, sustainable solutions for every part of my business. I am forever thankful I grew up in a country (Wales) where I was able t...o pursue my dreams. I was able to attend university, which allowed me to move to another amazing country (Australia) to set up my own business doing what I love as a woman in a male dominated space. I'm well aware that many women around the world don't have the same opportunities that I have had, such as having access to excellent health services which supported me, as a young woman, to make my own choices in life. So many women worldwide don't have access to family planning advice or contraceptives. In 2019, I visited Timor-Leste twice, where my brother was working in the not-for-profit sector for a youth organisation. Inspired by some of the young Timorese women I met through his work, I started quizzing him on which charities he admired in the country and he explained how he had witnessed the life saving work Marie Stopes International did in their clinic and in communities, providing health services, workshops on respectful relationships between men and women as well as family planning services. Sometimes the conversations that they have on the frontline are incredibly tough, but their persistence is challenging stereotypes and saving lives. One of the things that drew me to Marie Stopes International is that they train local women and men, creating much needed employment opportunities and ensuring their programs are locally driven and sustainable. There are the 'Marie Stopes Ladies' who are trained midwives and nurses who can provide discreet advice in women's own homes and are fully embedded in the communities they serve. Trusted, they are particularly effective at reaching young and unmarried women and girls who might not feel confident in using traditional clinics. Every year 25 million women resort to unsafe abortions because they have no other choice. Marie Stopes International wants to put an end to this. Around the world 32 million women are using a method of contraception provided by Marie Stopes International, 32 MILLION! This week Bert Jewellery donated a small sum to help them on their journey. Women should feel empowered to make our own choices with our bodies and that is why, every year, I plan on donating some of Bert's profits to a charity of my choice. Because it is my choice. 19.01.2022 That sapphire though I’d had this sapphire in my personal collection for over a year - basically when I see gems I love, I buy them and hold onto them until the perfect customer arises. For some reason, this one hadn’t been snapped up. Some customers thought it was too green, too yellow, too big or too small...There always seemed to be something missing, whereas I was always obsessed with it. Finally the right customers arose! Gen and Doug approached me wanting the whole s...hebang....engagement and wedding rings to be made at the same time. Gen wasn’t sure if she wanted diamonds on the engagement ring as well as the fitted wedding ring, but I actually thought that the angular geometric pear sapphire was epic enough on its own! This was the result. So good! I’ve since showed a few other customers these rings and they’ve all asked if I can find a similar sapphire again - the answer is nounfortunately. All sapphires are so unique, especially cuts and colours like this See more

14.01.2022 Diamonds on diamonds on diamonds

14.01.2022 Diamonds with a sweet & juicy pop of pink! I loved working with Lukas (all the way in Denmark) on this ring. He loved our trilogy styles and knew that his lovely girlfriend would as well, but he wanted to add a pop of colour somewhere. Pink diamonds are incredibly expensive, and tourmalines are a bit too soft for everyday wear, so I searched high and low and found a pair of pink pear shaped sapphires. I loved this colourful spin on our classic trilogy

14.01.2022 Sometimes it’s me that comes up with the ideas, and sometimes it’s my customers. In this case, Mandy couldn’t decide between our ‘Campbell’ ring or our ‘Hollie’ ring. The Campbell features the band sweeping across the tip of the pear and has become our signature style. I haven’t seen the style of setting done before and I’m really proud of that particular design. The Hollie on the other hand, has the band sweeping across the base of the pear. Mandy asked whether I could creat...e a hybrid of the two styles and the result was beyond my expectations. So, attached is the ‘Mandy’. Named after the girl who dreamed it up. What you can’t see in the photo are two little diamonds- one black and one white to symbolise her parents hidden on the side of the ring, always in her thoughts and always watching over her. It was an honour to create such a special piece to celebrate the love that they shared and the impact that they will forever have on her life. See more

14.01.2022 An angular spin on our previous signature Campbell ring with a fitted diamond wedding ring. Hot tip We always ask our customers if they will want (a) a fitted wedding ring later down the track or (b) a parallel wedding ring later on. This is because engagement rings are made differently if they are to accommodate either sort of wedding band. If a wedding ring band like this were to sit next to an engagement ring that hadn’t been made to accommodate a curved ring, it would... most likely spin on the finger and not stay exactly where you want it to. The Campbell ring is made to take a fitted wedding ring, so a parallel wedding band isn’t really going to work - it’s going to sit further away and not nestle in snug. If you are dropping hints to your partner about an engagement ring, it’s a really good idea to let them know what kind of wedding ring you’ll want in the future. I get so many customers who want fitted wedding rings but the engagement ring hasn’t been made to accommodate this, so it’s just a good thing to think about. As well as thisSo many people don’t know that partner’s finger size. Please please please pop in to a jewellers, find out your finger size and subtly let them know. Think that’s awkward? It’s more awkward when clueless people visit me and tell me their partners finger size is either massive or tiny and the fear of the ring being completely the wrong size when the proposal happens. Find out your finger size and casually drop it into conversation, or tell your best friend/his sister/your Mum, etc See more

14.01.2022 I love it when customers let me go wild with their designs! Ruth-Erin explained that she loved our asymmetric styles, and gave us free reign. As she lives in Canada, I sent her videos of a selection of gemstones. She said that she loved the free-form green sapphires and luckily I had the perfect one available. I sketched out a selection of different options and we discussed the idea of setting the sapphire in prongs or a bezel setting. She explained that a bezel feels like it...’s hugging the precious gem tightly and reminds her of her husbands hugs. How gorgeous! Bezel it is! ...I thought. I didn’t know this at the time of making the ring, but it just so happened that twelve diamonds seemed to balance the design perfectly. When Ruth-Erin received the ring a few weeks ago, she emailed me saying that she’s been with her husband for twelve years, so the number of diamonds seemed fitting. Total coincidence, but such a happy one. I loved the outcome of this ring, I love it when customers let me go completely crazy and come up with something totally unique to them. If you were to have a choice with your engagement ring, would you go for classic or a little bit wild? I’d go uniquely wild every time, but I do adore my classic, timeless pieces too. See more

12.01.2022 What a ring! It was such a pleasure making this ring for Annie and Steve. They both run the brilliant Londoner in Sydney blog. They had reached out to me a couple months before our appointment and we started to share ideas via email, and then COVID hit. They were unable to make our initial meeting as they were in Queensland, but when they were allowed to move freely, they came down to Sydney and we finally met. They had some ideas of what kind of engagement ring she liked (mo...stly squared shapes) and I had brought along a selection of radiant and emerald-cut sapphires for her to choose from. I also brought along a few wild-cards, unusual shapes in beautiful colours, just in case I could tempt her to go a bit more unique...and unique we went! When they saw the Sapphire, the design took a complete U-turn! We went a bit wild, and while I sketched, we discussed ideas. I’m so glad they gave me free-reign as I love the result. I’m honoured that they were kind enough to write an article about the whole process, which some of you might find helpful. You can find it right here https://londonerinsydney.com/best-engagement-rings-in-sydn/ Thank you Londoner In Sydney See more

11.01.2022 Another sneaky peek at that epic kite shaped Australian sapphire engagement ring

10.01.2022 I wish I could take an ‘on the finger view’ of this ring but it’s was sooo tiny, so here’s another shot to give you an idea of the scale of it. I loved it so much I want to make myself one!

09.01.2022 Ah Shaun! He was such a delight to work with on this ring for his lovely fiancé Kerry @kerryrowett. He explained that they’ve been together for five years and he loved the oceany blue sapphires yet wanted two diamonds to symbolise their two beautiful babies I emailed him videos of various sapphires to choose from and sketches including symmetrical and asymmetric designs. This was the combination he chose! Congratulations you two, it was an honour to make this ring to symbolise your love for eachother and your babes.

09.01.2022 Diamonds with a sweet & juicy pop of pink! I loved working with Lukas (all the way in Denmark) on this ring. 04.01.2022 That sapphire One of the things I love is when guys are open to taking a risk with their girlfriends rings. When I work with female couples, I think they understand that their girlfriend is going to want something unique or a little bit different, but guys are sometimes a bit afraid to take the risk, so tend to play a bit safe. I struggle when guys approach me and say their girlfriend loves my work but then tell me they just want a plain ring. Bert doesn’t really do plain...! I usually try to gently explain that if she loves my work, it’s because it’s unique so let’s go a little wild! I get that this whole ring buying scenario is a bit daunting. I’ve got you! I digress. Alex originally approached us wanting a symmetrical sapphire engagement ring and explained that the colour of the sapphire was very important it had to be a bright punchy blue. I showed him a selection of sapphires and he chose this beauty, and asked me to sketch ideas of what I would ideally like to do with it. After thinking about the design for a little while he decided he wanted to take a risk as he loved the asymmetric styles. This was the result. Luckily Zoe loved it too. #shesaidyes That beautiful blue, boosted up by those bright white contrasting diamonds - so good. All I can say is, try to drop some hints to your other half, just so he/she/they doesn’t end up asking me to make something simple if you’d ideally love something more unique. Some customers actually tell me just go wild which is always fun! See more

03.01.2022 Oval champagnes ...boosted up by a cluster of white diamonds either side, all set in yellow gold to make those warm-syrup-sparkly tones pop Congratulations to A & S! She emailed me yesterday thanking me for the most beautiful ring she’d ever seen. She went on to thank me for making her fiancé feel so comfortable throughout the whole process. That’s what I strive for...cutting out the confusion that sometimes surrounds diamonds and with having an engagement ring custom-made

03.01.2022 I loved making this champagne diamond engagement ring for Oli & Rio Luckily Oli had an idea of Rio’s taste and style and was able to email me a bunch of previous rings I’d made that she loved. He explained that the ring had to be gold That she loved champagne diamonds and that she liked the squared shaped diamonds We selected a cushion-cut diamond and boosted it up with three bright white diamonds either side. We loved the outcome and so did she luckily, as she said yes! Congratulations to you both! Each and every ring is unique and custom-made. It’s really useful to try to find out hints about what your partner loves, if possible, without being too obvious. Oli was the dream to work with on this

02.01.2022 Perfect Proportions

02.01.2022 Bondi we’re coming home You might’ve noticed I’ve been a bit quiet on the ‘gram lately. A lot has been happening at Bert. The big news is, I am moving my workshop back to Bondi Beach. People who have purchased rings for me before know that I split my time between Bondi and my CBD studio. Wellll, I’ve recently secured my own little workshop in Bondi which I couldn’t be happier about. As of mid-November I’ll be back where I belong. I’ve loved my last two years in the city, bu...t I’m a beach girl at heart and as I’m a one-woman business, splitting my working week between two locations was proving a tad challenging. This all means that I’ll be closing for just two weeks as of November 3rd. This also means that when I reopen on the 18th, there’ll be only five weeks until Christmas! If you’ve been planning on having a ring custom-made before 2020 is through, please holler very soon as my lead times are around five weeks currently. I am so excited to start this new chapter only a few blocks from the beach. Design meetings will continue to be strictly appointment-only. See more
