18.01.2022 Bertram Physiotherapy in Ipswich offer Tele-health video consultations via smart phone, tablet or computer. If you require Physiotherapy but are not able to come in to the clinic due to being over 70yrs, chronic health conditions, respiratory symptoms, self- isolation or caring for children at home we can provide Physiotherapy via video call. Professional assessment and guidance is of great importance, even more so if you are unable to leave your home. Ignoring pain or... injury can lead to adverse outcomes. Early diagnosis and management can reduce symptoms, speed recovery, and prevent re-injury. Patients can have video appointments with one of our Physio's from the comfort and safety of their own homes via a very easy online system. Struggle with technology?? Don't worry. Our friendly staff are here to help. We will talk you though it, step by step. WHAT TO EXPECT - *During the video call the physiotherapist takes a detailed history and observes your movement during orthopaedic tests. *The physiotherapist can then diagnose the injury or pain source and judge the extent of damage. *Advice on initial recovery strategies, pain management and how to start rehabilitation at home. *Live stream of home exercise programs designed for recovery or pain relief. We can send you exercises via our new Physitrack app. All exercises packages contain video demonstrations, and easy to follow explanations. You can view our exercises anytime, and can even set reminders. *Clients using our Physitrack app can message their physiotherapist with updates or questions anytime. This service is available to *Private Health Funds *Work Cover * NDIS clients * Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (certain chronic conditions will now be bulk billed)*DVA. If you would like to find out more information on Tele-health or book your first on-line video consultation please call us on 3202 1122. We are also happy to email you some further information and advice - [email protected]

04.01.2022 Jogging has never been more popular in the community as it is now in the COVID 19 era. The weather is beautiful for jogging, it gets you out of the house in the fresh air and there is no need for a lot of equipment or expense. Hopefully many of you who have started jogging (or walking) during this period of social isolation, will continue with this wonderful pastime after life gets back to normal. Exercise is a vital human activity for preventing heart disease and diabetes,... it improves mental health and memory and most of the diseases of ageing are reduced by physical fitness. Even though jogging is one of the most popular ways to stay fit, it is also very common to develop an injury if done incorrectly. The impact and stress of running is sometimes hard on the muscles and joints; especially if you ignore those early pain warning signs. Jogging is not so much fun if heel pain sets in or the knee-cap becomes inflamed. The good news is - running injuries can often be avoided by following a few key principles. 1. Always stretch - warm up/cool down. 2. Build up your running distances and intensity gradually over time. (No more than 10% per fortnight) 3. Run in suitable footwear. 4. Improved leg strength equals less running injuries. 5. Don’t run with an injury, seek professional physiotherapy advice first. HOW CAN PHYSIOTHERAPY HELP? Once we have thoroughly assessed your injury and biomechanics we will be able to identify the key factors and or underlying causes that have led to your persistent pain. Depending on your injury or problem area we will be able to offer treatments such as: 1. Deep tissue massage and dry needling to help improve muscle length and reduce pain and swelling 2. Individualised stretching program for improved muscle length. 3. Joint mobilisation 4. Strapping to assist with pain and improve biomechanics. 5. Specific exercises to help strengthen weakened muscles in the foot, knee, hip and core. 6. Orthotic advice. 7. Discuss safe training options/advice with you and or your running coach. Over the next few weeks we’ll post a series of specific topics relating to common running injuries: What causes them, how to prevent them and how to make the best recovery. So stay tuned, and I hope to see you on the footpaths or at Bertram Physiotherapy for all your injury advice/treatment. Ph 3202 1122
