15.01.2022 There is finally good news for Melbourne businesses and employees this afternoon. After months locked down under some of the world’s toughest restrictions, Prem...ier Andrews announced retail, beauty and hospitality can get back to work from 11.59pm Tuesday. Crucially, the ‘ring of steel’ border between metropolitan and regional Victoria will also be removed at 11.59pm on 8 November which means that metropolitan Melbourne will have the same restrictions as regional Victoria has currently. That will see gyms, tourism facilities, hotels and events resume restricted operations and there will be no requirement for worker permits from that date. VCCI Chief Executive Paul Guerra said: The Government has clearly listened to the pleas from business. There is a sense of optimism this afternoon as the whole of Victoria can finally get back to work." Full statement

02.01.2022 The Berwick & Beaconsfield Chamber of Commerce is disappointed and deeply concerned with many aspects of the Roadmap in relation to continuing restrictions. We are concerned about the roadmap and the severe impact we believe it will have on many of the businesses within Berwick and Beaconsfield. The Roadmap states that many of our businesses must remain closed until the end of October/ November 2020. Furthermore, that the re-opening of these businesses will be heavily depend...ent upon achieving unrealistic targets. Our businesses have actively adhered to and promoted Covid Safe work practices and will continue to ensure safe work and retail environments when they are able to open. We are calling on the Victorian Government to respond to the needs of our businesses by providing a more timely path of hope that will enable Covid19 safe re-openings sooner than the roadmap states. In the meantime we will work with our businesses to provide information and assistance through our regular Zoom forums and facilitate and create opportunities for enhanced reopening such as creating additional outdoor dining and retail provision to ensure viable reopening of our villages is achieved. We will continue to advocate also for the timely re-opening of our large local service industry, particularly financial and real estate that is able to reliably work in a Covid-19 Safe environment with low level or no contact.
