22.01.2022 Message from the Prez. Hi All, I hope you are all well and excited about some very well deserved freedoms coming our way.... I wanted to give our members an update on the current state of play to try and alleviate all the calls, messages and emails that we have been receiving. Whilst it is all very exciting that the government has eased some restrictions and now allowing junior sport to resume, there are still quite a few hurdles we need to jump over before this can happen. Below I will list them so it gives you a little perspective and hopefully enables you to have some information to pass on to any players that may be contacting you. 1. Football Victoria and Sport and Rec Victoria - Return to Play/Train Guidelines - We cannot return until this has been received by the club, read, understood and we can ensure we are able to provide and maintain a Covid safe site. At this stage we do not know when we will receive this. (Click the link below to the Football Victoria site.) 2. Council Permission to Return to Grounds - We cannot return or access our facilities until Council provide us with written permission. They will also need to review and approve our Covid safe plans (based on the Football Vic guidelines). 3. Council Priority to Other Sports - We are currently in an 'off season' period. I have spoken to Council and they have advised their priority is getting the sports up and running that should be 'in season' now. Therefore, they will focus on Summer sports like Tennis and Cricket first which is completely understandable. 4. Ground Allocation - We have a February to November ground allocation. We are not permitted to use the grounds in December or January as this is the period when the Parks department perform maintenance on the the pitches. 5. Return to Play Dates - Whilst we want to see everyone out there, we will still be living with Covid restrictions and will need to commence with a staggered return based on competition start dates, as this differs for Seniors, Junior NPL, Junior Community and Mini Roos. Depending on what the new rules are, we will be looking at how we can get the players back out on the park playing the game they love as soon as possible, even if that's just a few small friendly games before Christmas. I completely understand you all want to jump straight back into things but unfortunately it isn't that simple. Please rest assured, we are doing everything we can in the background to make this happen as quickly as possible, however it isn't the clubs decision and we must follow the rules to ensure the 2021 season kicks off without any further complications. I hope you all understand. If you have any questions please reach out and I thank you all for your support in the coming weeks trying to get things back to some sort of 'normal'. Stay safe. 20.01.2022 Wishing Luke Agius a speedy and full recovery. Luke suffered another serious knee injury in the senior men's practice match on Thursday night and will sadly undergo his 3rd ACL reconstruction in 3 years. Luke has been at Berwick City for many years and has come through our juniors and despite several serious injury setbacks had worked his way into the senior squad. To go through 2 long rehabs and get back on the pitch is a testament to his character and resilience. We know you will get through a third and we send you our love and support.
