Issued at 9:55 am Friday, 19 May 2017. A trough moving along eastern Australia is expected to extend over Tasmania on Saturday bringing rainfall throughout the state, with significant rainfall expected about northern Tasmania and the upper east coast. HEAVY RAIN which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely about northwest Tasmania during Saturday morning and afternoon, and then is likely about northeast Tasmania on Saturday afternoon and evening. 24 hour totals of 40 to 80mm are likely in northwest and northeast Tasmania on Saturday, with isolated totals of 80 to 100mm possible with thunderstorms. Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie, Smithton, St Helens, Bicheno and Fingal. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Supervise children closely. * Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings. * Manage pets and livestock. * Clear drains and gutters on premises prior to severe weather arriving. * Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters. * Be prepared in case of power outages. * Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Friday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 216.
