24.01.2022 Eat until you are 80% full This is an intention that the people of Okinawa set before every meal, to stop eating when they feel 80% full. As you eat your stomach stretches out slowly it's not till around 20 minutes after you finish eating that it stretches to its maximum and it takes around this time for your brain to realise you are full!... Because of this lag, if you stop eating around 80% fullness then you are actually closer 100%. Obviously you can't tell precisely when you get to 80% but by slowing down and checking in halfway through the meal you will be surprised how quickly you can get a gauge of it. 13.01.2022 Emotions, the food environment, stress are all a cascade of stimuli that can trigger the thought it's time to eat. How do you know when it's time to eat? -Do you go by the clock? -When there is a thought, "I'm hungry"... -When your stomach starts growling -When you get bored? We all experience hunger and have patterns of how we react. Some of us eat at the first thought of "I'm hungry", some wait till the stomach is absolutely ravenous "time to scoff down on some feed" and anything in between. Is there a right time to eat? Well the two ends of the hunger fullness scale is fairly noticeable, but the subtle sensations in the middle are a bit more clouded. Next time you feel the urge to eat, check in briefly for any physical sensations present in your stomach. This approach tunes you back into the intuition that our body is empowered with.
