22.01.2022 SHINJU MATSURI BACK ON Broomes Shinju Matsuri is the first festival to get the green light after COVID-19 restrictions shut down the arts and entertainment... industry in WA. WA Treasurer Ben Wyatt said its hoped the fiftieth anniversary of the event will be a signal to tourists the states north is returning to normal. Its going to be a great festival and if the hard border is still going, itll be full of Western Australians up here celebrating Broome, he said. Funding for the celebration was in doubt after it was postponed earlier this year due to the pandemic. But at a special council meeting last night, the Shire of Broome voted to foot a large part of the bill for the event. It will now run from August 29 through to September 6. Organiser Chris Mahar said while theres still work to be done to firm up the 2020 program, the councils vote should come as as a relief to Broome businesses. "This helps us move ahead and we can continue ahead and we can continue our planning to deliver a fantastic festival for Broome," he said. "Were hoping this will be a great indicator things are starting to return to normal." There will still be the usual favourites, with the float parade, art awards and long table dinner, as well as a 50th anniversary retrospective exhibition at the Broome Museum. The Town Beach precinct will also play host to the Shinju Matsuri hub, with live music, market stalls and art workshops for locals and visitors. Organiser Chris Mahar, board director Lynne Bunney and WA Treasurer Ben Wyatt.

15.01.2022 Weve heard a few new stories about how the closure of our border is causing problems for some people who were intending to come here for various reasons. Its ...true - our hard border arrangements are clearly going to cause inconvenience and very difficult circumstances for some. WA Police is the doing the best they can to process applications in a timely manner. But Ill be very clear about this: the health, safety and freedoms of the Western Australian community are just too important to put at risk by rushing this process. Travel into our State will remain restricted until we can have confidence that it will be safe. Just as a reminder - the arrangements are pretty straightforward: No one can travel to Western Australia unless they have a pre-approved exemption. Generally, these exemptions include essential services, certain work related travel and special compassionate reasons. Those people who are allowed to enter our State are almost always required to undertake a 14-day isolation upon arrival. If they dont have an appropriate place to self-quarantine, they are placed in hotel quarantine for that time. Wherever they isolate, they are subject to significant penalties if they breach the rules. Anyone who has been in Victoria in the past fortnight will now face more significant restrictions. No one will be allowed into Western Australia if they have been in Victoria in the previous 14 days, unless they meet the new exemption list. The number of exemptions for anyone in that criteria has been reduced significantly, meaning only specific essential workers, transport and freight workers and those persons approved by the State Emergency Coordinator, on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, will be permitted to enter WA. These changes will help to continue keeping Western Australians safe, and we wont hesitate to take further action as the situation continues to evolve. I know that these restrictions arent easy - especially for Western Australians with families interstate and for those who have moved away and are trying to get back. But we have to hold firm. We know our hard border is working to keep us safe - we simply cannot let that slip now.

09.01.2022 South Australia lifts COVID-19 border with WA, NT and Tasmania June 16, 2020 South Australia is lifting some COVID-19 border restrictions allowing people to travel FROM Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Tasmania from midnight on Tuesday.... Premier Steven Marshall says the change means people from those states will no longer be required to stay in quarantine for 14 days when they arrive in SA. He says people who recently arrived from those states and are in isolation, are also free to move into the wider community. At this stage border restrictions related to NSW, Queensland and Victoria will be lifted on July 20. "So effective from midnight tonight there will be no requirement for 14 days of self-isolation." But WA Premier Mark McGowan hosed down talk of a potential travel bubble with SA and the NT.

01.01.2022 After the wonderful Stage One Revitalisation of Broome's Chinatown in 2019, it is great to progress to Stage Two. Construction works on Stage Two of Broome’s Chinatown Revitalisation Project will commence Monday, November 16 and continue through to mid 2021. The $14.5 million upgrades, funded by the State Government and the Shire of Broome, will include improved road layouts, shade during the day and lighting at night, alfresco meeting places and street furniture, trees and g...reen space plantings, public art and interpretive trails, and versatile parking layouts including a transit hub. Construction works are to be split into three stages through the wet season. During the works, temporary road closures will be required on Carnarvon Street, Short Street and Napier Terrace, with diversions in place and construction being staggered to ensure access to businesses is retained. Pedestrian access in all areas will be maintained throughout the entire construction period and businesses will be open as usual.
