25.01.2022 We have been going along to some walking and running events by RUN DOG and have been loving it! Check out their page for events coming up if you would like to be active with your dog in a group of supportive people :)

25.01.2022 We are out of the office! We are in Canberra visiting family, and will have limited access to our emails, with no access to our texts and calls until we are back on the 27th of July. We appreciate your patience while we are gone on our much needed break, but we will get back to everyone ASAP once we return.... Hades is excited to be able to spend some quality time with his family member, Fudge

25.01.2022 Is your dog a bit funny around food? Greg the incredibly handsome Rhodesian Ridgeback is a sweet, gorgeous boy who loves his family dearly. He has perfect food manners with his family but he isnt as understanding when other dogs are around his food and has caused a fair bit of damage to another dog previously. Gregs family want to introduce a new pup into the family in the future, but want to be able to trust Greg. ... We started further improving Gregs awesome obedience foundation around food by teaching him to come away from food when asked, and to concentrate on what we say when food is around. Next we brought another dog into the situation and Greg did really well! Practice will make perfect and we are sure that Greg will come along in leaps and bounds.

25.01.2022 Hexxus is an energetic, working line German Shepherd puppy, so it would be way too easy for him to be a whirlwind of chaos and destruction in the house, except, he isnt. From the day we brought Hexxus home we taught him how to politely interact with the cats and that chasing them or trying to play with them is totally not okay. We also taught him that inside is calm/relaxing time, and not the time or place to crack zoomies around or harass Hades.... You can teach your pup or adult dog exactly how you would like them to behave inside, and it is easier then you may think! Do you currently have a dog that lives outside all the time because when they are in the house they want to run around, steal your shoes, jump on the counter and not listen? We can definitely teach you how to show your dog how we want them to behave. If you would like your dog to transform into a well behaved family member that calmly comes inside and lays on their bed all evening, you can have it! With no drugging required haha. If you have any questions about how to teach your dog to be calm inside, or how to appropriately interact with another pet in your home, send us a message and we can point you in the right direction.

24.01.2022 Happy Easter!!

24.01.2022 Apollo was taking a moment to sun bake to recharge his batteries in our training session! Apollo is a miniature poodle, and as well as being a gorgeous pet he is in training to become an assistance dog when he is older. We are setting the foundation for him now to set him up for success!

23.01.2022 We have started our private lesson program with Benji and he is making good progress in areas! These photos were taken while we started teaching Benji to go to his bed and stay there with asked. Benji has been getting rude with his smaller dog family members so we are teaching Benji boundaries to keep everyone safe and happy.

23.01.2022 Bennie the Labradoodle is staying with us for 2 weeks before heading to his new home in Sydney! We are working with Bennie on all the puppy basics like toilet training, crate training, teaching him how to be comfortable on his own to prevent separation anxiety, how to be relaxed for grooming and nail trimming, socialisation, basic obedience and more. This will help make his transition into his new family an easy one for everyone!

23.01.2022 What would you like to learn more about? With all the self-isolating that has been happening, we have some extra time on our hands and are going to be putting together free content and videos to help you improve life with your dog. Please leave a comment below with what you would most like to find out more about, and please leave a separate comment with each topic you would like to know more about. ... If you see another comment with a topic that you are interested in, please give it a like so we can get an idea of what topics are most popular because we will start with those! Some ideas are: How to keep your dog entertained and destruction free when spending so much time at home, how to teach your dog manners around the house so they are calm inside instead of causing trouble, how to teach your dog to walk on a loose lead, how to teach your dog to come when called, how to stop your dog from jumping on visitors, how to socialise your puppy when there are no dogs or people out to socialise with... The possibilities are endless! So please comment below with what you would like to learn about and we will start getting on it!

22.01.2022 Bowie and Hades had some fun canoodling at the end of our session Bowie is a terrific dog! He has obviously had so much time invested into his training and development, and it shows. Bowie is an assistance dog in training but after having reduced exposure during COVID-19 lockdown, he has started getting overly excited when he sees other dogs. Bowie made stellar progress during our lesson and we are sure he will be back to his chilled self in no time!

21.01.2022 Thanks to everyones patience over the past 3 weeks while we have been away visiting family. We arrived back a week ago and have caught up on all our enquiries, if you havent heard from us please send us a message in case it was lost in technology land while we were away! We would love to see a photo down below of what you have been up to with your dog!

21.01.2022 Sometimes getting a photo of our gorgeous furry pupils can be a challenge! The GORGEOUS puppy Otis is from Journey Australian Labradoodles and is such a lovely boy. Otiss mum has already been doing so many awesome things to set Otis up for success! In our private puppy lessons we went over a couple problem solving things and went into more detail about how to set Otis up to be a beautifully mannered companion as he gets older. ... Otiss mum also works at a school so when he has a few more months under his belt, we are going to go through the foundations for therapy dog training too. Otis is a lucky boy to have such a great family!

21.01.2022 Theres a bunch of things that you can do at home with your dog! We are going to put together a video with some different ideas to stop you and your dog from going stir crazy. This morning we played dress-ups with Hexxus for the first time to get him used to wearing things. Socialisation with puppies is crucial and doesnt just include socialisation with dogs and people. Getting puppies used to different floor surfaces, sounds, and smells are all super important. You can do so much with your pups at home to set them up to be confident, well balanced adults!

20.01.2022 8 years ago I was in Melbourne while studying my cert III in Dog Behaviour and Training to do some practical assessments. The dog I was assigned was Chilli the Golden Retriever. I still have a soft spot for Goldens after working with Chilli. He was so happy and sweet and was a super fast learner. He helped me pass my assessments with ease and I can still clearly remember our time together

20.01.2022 Respecting dogs as individuals. Every dog has a unique personality and traits, and that is what makes them, them. We can cause stress for ourselves and our dogs by wanting them to be something that they aren't. There is a difference between wanting to change some behaviours like teaching our dogs not to jump up on visitors, or how to walk on a loose lead vs asking a guarding breed not to bark at people arriving at the property, or getting a herding breed and wanting them to ...be a lazy couch potato without giving them an outlet for their genetic drives and desires. An example of personality differences is the difference of cuddlyness between Hades and Hexxus. Despite Hades being the pretty fluffy dog, he is not a super cuddly dog by nature. He likes getting pats from his family and will sometimes curl up on the couch beside us for a while, but he is not a lapdog by any means and he would find getting constant hugs and physical attention very stressful. If we constantly invaded his personal space and didn't give him the alone time that he enjoys, it would definitely create issues. Hexxus on the other hand has no concept of personal space, and wants to constantly be on us or touching us when he is laying down. He doesn't have separation issues, he just enjoys being very, very close when we are home. If Hex was left outside all the time and only saw us for half an hour a day to play some fetch and give him dinner, he would definitely develop behavioural "problems" like nuisance barking, digging, jumping all over us and other annoying, destructive behaviours. We owe it to our dogs to appreciate what makes them, them, and to love the dog in front of us. If you have any questions about how to help your dog become the best version of themselves, please get in touch.

19.01.2022 This hilarious video was taken at a "Canine Carnivale" workshop, taught by Scott McGuinness from Canine Connect when he came up to QLD to show us how trick training can be used to help solve behavioural "problems" for dogs with reactivity, anxiety and low confidence. It was a fantastic workshop and hopefully Scott can make it up again when the world is less crazy! So it was a super duper hot day, and Hades was understandably dropping off with his energy and enthusiasm, so I... decided to play some chasies and rough house him a bit to get him excited for a few more reps. When Hades is excited, he likes to hold something in his mouth, and the nearest thing was my phone that had just fell from my pocket That, combined with him really wanted some shade equalled Hades grabbing my phone and running off with it It still makes me laugh to this day.

19.01.2022 Sorry that we have been so quiet here on our page recently. This furry feline is one of my cats, Bandit. Bandit has a habit of eating things that he shouldnt, which last week resulted in hospital trips, stays, tests, and ended up with emergency surgery to remove an obstruction. I know that as pet owners and lovers you can understand the stress it causes when a furry family member is sick! Bandit is back home now but we are keeping a very close eye on him while he recovers,... and in a week he will have his last checkups, then we can relax. I hope you have all had a great weekend, and we will be getting back into the swing of social media things soon!

18.01.2022 This afternoon we met Bailey the 9 month old Lab puppy and his family! Baileys family have only had him for 2 months and he had some cheeky behaviours learnt from his previous home like jumping on everyone for attention, mouthing, general not listening and he walking him was a stressful experience because he loved to drag his family down the street! All common puppy behaviours, but not fun ones to live with! ... We went through how to change all of Baileys behaviours that we werent loving, and how to show Bailey what we would like him to do instead. This video was from the end of our lesson, and look how much Baileys walking had improved! A goal for his family was for the kids to be able to walk him safely too.

17.01.2022 Ellie and Harley are such great dogs, their family just had a couple of things they wanted to work on like to stop barking when asked, to come when called and to walk on a loose lead. We went through everything to make those goals happen within our private lesson and by the end Ellie and Harley were loose lead walking like champions and listening so well. They are really smart dogs and it is obvious that their family has put a lot of time and effort into raining them to be so fantastic!

17.01.2022 We have been training bear for the past few days while his family was away on holidays! Bear is a very social dog but doesnt always like coming back when called, especially at the dog park, even when its empty because there are such good sniffs! We showed Bear that recalls are awesome, and also non optional. Look how happily he came running back even when having a great time playing!

16.01.2022 This little cutie is Kobe! Kobe is a super friendly puppy but gets over excited when saying hello, which he shows by jumping up on his family and visitors and nipping/mouthing them. We luckily had some cleaners and tradies come to the house while we were working with Kobe which gave us lots of opportunity to practice! He was picking this up super fast!

16.01.2022 This morning we had a in home private lesson with Bentley and his family! Bentley liked to bark at people and dogs to try and say hello and was not a fan of coming when called. He put on his best listening ears though and was concentrating so well and making good life choices! Awesome work to Bentley and his mum!

16.01.2022 Sandy the Boarder Collie pup was exhausted after our lesson! We started teaching Sandy some important skills like coming when called and to stay when asked. Sandy is living the life on a HUGE property where she gets to help with lots of the farm tasks, but to stay safe we are teaching Sandy how to listen all the time, to set her up for success.

16.01.2022 Karu the GSD puppy is a little sweetheart, but due to a scary experience as a young pup he can get nervous around other dogs on lead, and he likes to show his fear and concern by putting on a big boy bark which is not enjoyable for his human family. We started teaching Karu that it is great to be around other dogs and he made a lot of progress in our lesson!

14.01.2022 Yesterday Arlo the assistance dog in training went home after staying with us for 2 weeks for board and train. Arlos family has already put in so much work and he already knew all his obedience cues like sit, stay and come, but whether he chose to listen to them or not was sometimes up for debate. We spent the two weeks helping Arlo to master his skills in different environments and teaching him that when he is asked to do something, it isnt a request. ... He loves working and LOVES food so he picked it all up easily!

14.01.2022 Training is exhausting! Peach is in training to become an assistance dog so we have helped give Peach a great foundation for us to work with as she develops. She is such a sweet puppy and she is super clever too!

14.01.2022 Angus is another amazing pup that we have been lucky enough to meet! He is super confident and has been doing so well thanks to his parents.

13.01.2022 Dont let Bubs sweet little face fool you, he can be a cheeky little pup! Some of Bubs favourite past times include pulling out plants, biting and destroying his water dispenser, but he is really is such a gorgeous puppy and we LOVED working with him! With some clarity in our training Bub was soon offering beautiful calm sits instead of chucking zoomies all the time, and he showed us that he can be responsible with some extra freedom.

12.01.2022 This afternoon we met Bailey the 9 month old Lab puppy and his family! Bailey's family have only had him for 2 months and he had some cheeky behaviours learnt from his previous home like jumping on everyone for attention, mouthing, general not listening and he walking him was a stressful experience because he loved to drag his family down the street! All common puppy behaviours, but not fun ones to live with! ... We went through how to change all of Baileys behaviours that we weren't loving, and how to show Bailey what we would like him to do instead. This video was from the end of our lesson, and look how much Baileys walking had improved! A goal for his family was for the kids to be able to walk him safely too.

11.01.2022 Last week we met Indy the new Labrador puppy! Indy is a little cutie and had already had a bunch of great training from her family. We went through some ways that Indy could be exposed to the world safely before she finished her vaccinations, how to improve some of her current skills and how to stop mouthing/biting from becoming an issue. Having a private lesson meant that the whole session was all about Indy so we could could focus on what would be the most useful for Indy and her family.

09.01.2022 The gorgeous Lola went back home this week after staying with us for 2 weeks of board and train. During Lola's stay she gained so much confidence and was able to stay calm and composed while off lead dogs rushed us on walks, she learnt how to relax around a group of new dogs at a cafe while we had lunch (and while she ate her doggy icecream!), she learnt how to make friends again and that other dogs aren't always trying to hurt her, she learnt how to use her freedom at a bea...ch responsibly and that if she ever felt uncomfortable she could come back to her humans and that they would keep her safe. Lola made a huge amount of progress in a short period of time, we are so proud of her. We got an update the night that Lola went home, telling us about how she did a play bow at a new dog at footy, and how she stayed relaxed and was okay with the other dog not playing back. It is such a big deal that Lola tried initiating play with a strange dog, and also a big deal that she handled her play rejection well haha.

09.01.2022 Hey guys! So we are doing our best to stay away from the COVID19 hysteria that is going on. We know your news feeds will be full of it, and we dont want to add more to it. We want our posts to continue to be educational and full of adorable dogs for you to look at and take a small break from your day. We will be sharing a couple of posts over the next few weeks about things you can do with your dogs to make this easier. ... Our first tip is, if you are working from home, now is the perfect time to work on your dogs house manners if they need some fine tuning. Teaching your dog a skill like to go and lay on their bed inside when asked so they arent getting into mischief or bugging you while you are working is a nifty skill to have!

09.01.2022 Tiny Bella is one of the most confident puppies that we have met recently! She wanted to be best friends with Hades from the start. Bella knows that she is adorable but had a little bit of toilet training trouble which we discussed how to solve, and she is also very interested in mouthing, as pups do! But it isnt something that we wanted to continue so we also went through some training tricks to teach Bella to eat toys, not people.

09.01.2022 What do both of these gorgeous pups have in common? They are both assistance dogs in training! Working with assistance dogs is one of our biggest passions in the dog world. Assistance dogs make such a difference to their handlers and in some cases the support of an assistance dog is the only reason their handler can leave the house. What dogs do for us is incredible

08.01.2022 Here is some cuteness for your Monday, brought to you by Jordie! Jordie is a little sweetheart and her ears are arguably one of the best things ever. Jordie loves trying to play with her little canine sister, especially when her sister is screaming at her that she doesnt want to play right now. ... We helped to teach Jordie how to enjoy spending time with us and by herself without needing to play with her sister constantly, so they can have a more enjoyable relationship together as Jordie grows up to be much bigger!

08.01.2022 Grrrtrude is showing us some Monday feelings haha! Grrrtrude is such a cool dog! She knows some awesome skills but struggles to keep her composure around other dogs, which we are working on in private lessons.

07.01.2022 Sending kind vibes this weekend. We have had a lot of consults for reactivity this week, and we know exactly how it feels having a troublesome dog. Hades did not used to be what you see him as now ;) If your dog does things that upsets or embarrasses you, it's okay. The message below says it all. ... Feel free to reach out if you need help, or just to chat

07.01.2022 Cute little Rusty is a gorgeous dog. His canine brother unfortunately passed away recently, who was the only other dog Rusty has ever known. Rusty is soon getting a new doggy sibling, so we have been asked to help prepare Rusty for the upcoming change in the family!... Rusty was spending his walks trying to pull like a freight train and was acting aggressively towards dogs that he saw on lead. In our lesson we worked out that Rusty is just scared of strange dogs, and we put a plan in place to help him get over his fear to prepare him for living with another dog. We have a couple more lessons planned to make sure Rusty is super ready, and to help integrate the new pup into the family so everything goes smoothly. Training isnt just for when things go wrong, by seeking help early we can prevent things from going wrong.

06.01.2022 This gorgeous little man is Harvey! Harvey is a sweetheart but after a couple of house break ins, one involving Harvey being injured, he has been understandably anxious when at home and barking has now become an issue. We went through how to improve Harvey's confidence and reduce his anxiety, and how to make him feel better to stop his barking to avoid neighbour complaints.

05.01.2022 Benny can be very nervous around other dogs and tries to run away (he tried running away when he saw Hades 5 houses away!) But with patience, encouragement and tons of tasty treats, Benny learnt that being around Hades is actually super fantastic! We have put in a plan to help Benny flourish. He doesnt have to want to say hi to every dog, but we want to teach him that he can relax when they around, which he definitely achieved today!

05.01.2022 This little stunner is Teddy! Teddy is a fun loving guy and a big sweetheart, but he can have trouble with his impulse control and loves jumping, and mouthing arms. It got so bad that Teddy's family were having to cover their arms in hot sauce when going outside with Teddy to stop the bites! Teddy tried really hard in our lesson and made some great progress! Now it will just be a matter of making sure that Teddy remembers the new rules of the house.

05.01.2022 The one dog treat I avoid like the plague? Rawhide. We all want to treat our pets and keep them occupied with a tasty chew, we know that chewing is good for cleaning their teeth and keeping them out of mischief, but rawhide is not the way to go. As Christmas time is coming around, more rawhide pet chews are being made available. They look super pretty and come in cute colours and shapes, but they can be life-threatening for puppies and dogs. ... They are chemically treated to a massive extent to stop the product from going rancid, and to make it white, but the biggest health risk is that they get super gunky when they are chewed, and can cause choking hazards as well as intestinal obstructions. I can say from experience, an intestinal blockage is $1000's in vet bills. Some alternatives are naturally dehydrated meat chews like cow ears, kangaroo knees and beef tendons. Some long lasting chews are deer antlers, goat horns and Himalayan Yakky chews. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc265q0ZRss

05.01.2022 Lola the labradoodle is a cutie patootie, and also loves the sound of her voice. Lola is a very smart pup but some things make her unsure, so Lola thought the secret to keep herself safe and comfortable was to bark at anything that she was not certain about. We went through a bunch of different training exercises to do with Lola to teach her that she doesnt have to bark at things to be safe, and to build her confidence.... She did soooo well!

04.01.2022 Last week Hades came to assist with a lesson for baby Arlo! Arlo is a super smart pup who also has very sharp teeth which he likes to use while playing, and we also helped get his toilet training under control.

03.01.2022 Milo is an extremely smart little dude, but he was lacking a little impulse control around other dogs and could get a little loud! He made a massive improvement over the course of our lesson, we are so impressed with Milo and his mum.

03.01.2022 Gorgeous Grrrtrude is staying with us for Board and Train for two weeks! Grrrtrude has some fear based reactivity that she is here to work on and she is coming such a long way. On walks Grrrtrude doesnt sound like the friendliest pupper, she comes across very aggressively towards other dogs and sometimes towards people if she is on edge. She is the sweetest soul but needs some confidence building, impulse control and some help learning how to chill. ... This morning was a breakthrough with Grrrtrude happily choosing to hang out with Hades and Hexxus, without her muzzle on. We are so proud of her

03.01.2022 Holy mackerel This is Sabre. We had a proactive lesson with Sabre and her family to help get her into a good routine to make things easy when her family are all back at school and work! ... She is such an awesome pup and thanks to all the effort her family are putting in, she is well on her way to being an amazing adult too. It is super important to get our pups and dogs used to a "normal" routine including teaching them to settle on their own, so they can easily adapt to our routines changing as restrictions are lifted.

03.01.2022 The gorgeous Lola arrived this week for her board and train program Lola was the kind of dog that loved going to the dog park and making new friends, but then she was attacked multiple times. Lola is a sweetheart but new dogs scare her, she doesn't know that they won't all try to eat her. Lola is staying with us so we can help build her confidence and show her that we won't let anything bad happen, so she can go for walks without barking and lunging AND get to go and enjoy... the beach again! It has only been a couple of days but Lola is already realizing that Hades and Hexxus are friends, it is only up from here!

02.01.2022 What are you up to with your dog this weekend? We have bush walks and cafe dates planned! Our new favourite local place to go is Lotus Cafe in Springfield Central. They are dog friendly and have doggy icecream, cookies and puppicinos.

02.01.2022 This little cutie is Kobe!

01.01.2022 This is some fantastic information for multi dog households. When you know better, do better.

01.01.2022 And to continue with Goldie photos, this is Lulu! Lulu is a sweetie, but she has also decided that when she likes something she doesnt want to give it up and is prepared to get very snarky to keep her precious things. Behaviours can be addressed at any age, but being proactive and getting help early (like Lulus family has done!) means that we can solve any unwanted behaviours much faster!

01.01.2022 This morning we met Raja! Raja is a working line GSD puppy (and almost looks identical to our puppy, Hexxus!) and he is a really spunky dude that just needs to learn where his off switch is. He thought really hard in our lesson and made some epic progress towards being calm around other dogs and making walks a relaxing time instead of freight train activation time!

01.01.2022 Breed characteristics - Working with the dog, not against them. This evening we met Chase, an adorable Australian Cattle Dog puppy. He is a really gorgeous boy and his family has done a great job with him! There are just a couple of things that we needed to work on. ACD's are bred to herd cattle, so a common behaviour is herding moving objects like balls, cars, and people. Chase is gentle but would chase and mouth the kids when they ran and played, which is something we addr...essed. ACD's are also known for their loyalty to their family, and in particular one specific family member. Chase's mum is that person, he adores her and tried so hard to be a good boy while we worked on his manners around other dogs on walks. He made a lot of progress and put in a lot of effort. When choosing a puppy it is important to research the breed (like Chase's family did) and know the common behaviours that you may encounter. Working breeds need lots of stimulation and enrichment to satisfy their drives to be great family members and aren't the best family pets if they don't get their genetic needs met.
