02.01.2022 #Repost @12apostlesfoodartisans (@get_repost) A postcard from beautiful Loch Ard Gorge Located just a few minutes drive from the 12 Apostles, you will find Loch Ard Gorge the site of one of Australias most famous shipwrecks.... The Loch Ard ran aground crashing into Mutton Bird Island in 1878. There were just two survivors - Tom Pearce and Eva Carmichael. Washed ashore inside the gorge, they sheltered there until Tom climbed the steep, unforgiving cliffs and went in search of help. Tom & Eva became famous and and many hoped the teenagers would marry. When its safe to return to this beautiful place, you can discover how their story ended for yourself while making your way along the 12 Apostles Food Trail. Not far from Loch Ard Gorge, you will find Mutton Bird Island which used to be called The Sow back in the days when the Twelve Apostles were known as The Sow and Piglets.
