23.01.2022 Controlling behaviour can range from monitoring your daily activities to threatening your children or pets. It has no place in a healthy relationship or healthy... communities. 19.01.2022 Throughout the holidays and beyond, remember the importance of washing your hands often and thoroughly Proper handwashing can protect you and others from a range of diseases so it's important in order to keep germs at bay

18.01.2022 #12DaysOfChristmasSafety Number 2 - Christmas Shopping If you're like most of us, you'll be starting your Christmas shop any day now, so here are a few tips to... get you through the silly shopping season safely: Designate a safe, out-of-sight spot to receive online order deliveries and make sure to include specific instructions about where to leave deliveries when you pay for your purchases. If you have a trusted neighbour who can take delivery for you, even better. Make a list before you get online or go to a shopping centre. The last thing you need in the new year is buyer's remorse when you see your credit card bill. Keep your purse or wallet close while shopping and never leave your trolley unattended. Thieves love an easy target so let's not be one. If you don't love wrapping gifts, save yourself the headache and do a good deed at the same time by using one of the charity-based gift wrapping services that spring up in most shopping centres at this time of year. If possible, plan to complete your shopping at one destination so you aren't leaving purchases in the car to tempt thieves. If you do have to leave items in the car, make sure they're locked in the boot, out of sight. Wishing you a headache-free shopping season from friends at Neighbourhood Watch Australasia .

12.01.2022 #12DaysOfChristmasSafety Number 1 - Christmas Lights It's been a heck of a year but we've made it to December...phew! For many of us, that means it's time to de...ck the halls, trim the tree and get ready for Christmas. Nothing's more magical than Christmas lights but make sure you're handling them safely: Choose the right lights for the job - indoor lights for indoor and outdoor lights for outdoor. Check all cords and plugs for signs of damage before hanging lights and never use any lights that show signs of wear like frayed cords etc. Use powerboards for multiple sets of lights to avoid overloading electrical outlets and no more than three sets of lights per outlet. Use a sturdy ladder for installing lights higher up on trees or outdoors and always have a spotter to keep you safe. If you have a living Christmas tree, always turn off the lights and unplug before watering the tree. Turn all lights off inside and outside your house before you turn in for the night or leave the house. Check your smoke alarms because if something does go wrong and you end up with a fire, the last thing you want is defective smoke alarms. While you're at it, check the safety switch on your electrical board too. A seasonal safety message from your friends at Neighbourhood Watch Australasia . . . . Toni Cuenca via Unsplash

06.01.2022 ***SCAM ALERT*** During the Christmas shopping rush, many of us are turning to sellers of new and secondhand goods on places like Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree ...and online swap/sell groups to find a bargain. While most people on these sites are legitimate, there are always scammers looking to fleece money from unsuspecting buyers, so it pays to be careful. Use these tips to bargain hunt safely: Be wary of anyone selling an item priced well below other similar listings as you may be buying brand knockoffs or stolen goods. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. If payment is requested via wire transfer, money order or gift cards it is likely a suspicious sale and should be avoided. If you are shopping locally always arrange to meet in a public place to inspect the item and take a friend with you. If the seller requests a copy of your driver's licence or other ID to complete the transaction you are very likely dealing with a scammer. Be smart. Stay safe. From your friends at Neighbourhood Watch Australasia .
