25.01.2022 It's the shirt/dress that keeps on giving. . I made this piece from nearly 3 button up shirts and kept the little detail like centre front button holes and sleeve plackets to show it's origins. . I also think a garment is truly sustainable when you can get as much wear out of it as possible. So this loose, flowy, classic piece can be styled many different ways to encourage a long life span.... . This piece plus more upcycled pieces are available to purchase on my website ---> https://www.bethanyalice.com.au/shop . I'd love to know would you rock this piece? See more
25.01.2022 What should I do with this skirt? I got it from the Slavos store in Ballarat a while ago and I love the look but it's a bit long and I don't have a great range of leg motion. I'd love to know your thoughts. What should I turn it into?... 1: A pair of wide legs pants 2: A more a-lined skirt 3: A short fitted skirt with a flare Let me know in the comments and I'll turn it into the most popular option.
25.01.2022 Did you know this month is #secondhandseptember. It was started by Oxfam to encourage people to only purchase secondhand clothing for 30 days. So I thought I'd show you some of my favourite second hand finds and some accounts to follow for inspiration. . PANTS: I love buying men's pants as they have deep POCKETS which is amazing, the fabric quality is great and you can get plain or printed. My printed pair were a bit small so I let out the side seams. These are my go to's and... have worn them sooo much. (Black pants - gifted from a friend Print pants - @lostandfoundmarket) . BLAZERS: I am obsessed with blazers particularly long open cut ones. I love the black one as it has an asymmetrical hemline. Then the printed one I found was a bit too short so using another second hand blazer I added a long panel to achieve extra length. I have worn these to death. (Black blazer- @millmarkets Print blazer- @lostandfoundmarket) . JUMPSUIT: I am obsessed with this retro-esque piece. The fabric is so light and comfortable and I have worn it to many events. It did have a small hole in the zip when I found it and the front was a bit too low so I just stitched them up. (Jumpsuit- @lostandfoundmarket) . TIPS: When shopping second hand always try things just outside of your comfort zone because that's where the magic happens. . SHOP: If you're like me stuck in lock down definitely checkout the app @depop. You know when you raid you sisters wardrobe for her clothes, it's like all the sister of the world are in one place and you can buy their old clothes. . FOLLOW: If you're looking for more second hand fashion inspiration check out my 2 favourite accounts at the moment @melbournethriftstyle @beckysthriftedfinds . So have a crack and give second hand September a try, I'd love to hear how you go See more
25.01.2022 10 ideas to turn your unworn clothes into your FAVOURITE pieces!! . I absolutely LOVE finding lots of different ways to turn old pieces into clothes you will feel confident in and want to wear again and again. Here are a few of my favourite alterations. . 1: Remove sleeves from a shirt or dress to make it sleeveless ... . 2: Turn a pair of pants into a skirt . 3: Turn a button up shirt into an off should design with the collar as a tie (As seen in picture) . 4: Add a pocket made from a bold contrasting fabric to a plain shirt or jacket. . 5: Replace sleeves of one shirt with sleeves from another shirt with contrasting colours or prints for a unique feature. . 6: Add lace to the hemline of a shirt or dress to add length but creating a sheer design. . 7: Add bold contrasting fabric to garment side seams to create a looser silhouette. . 8: Cut top off a dress and turn it into a skirt. . 9: Add extra fabric to sleeves of a short sleeve shirt or dress to make full length sleeves. . 10: Add fabric to a short jacket to make a long coat. . I'd love to know, which alteration would you do to your clothes? See more
25.01.2022 More upcycled pieces coming soon!! . Being in lockdown season 2, naturally I spent my time bingeing more shows on netflix AND making more upcycled pieces to add to my "in isolation" upcycled collection . This piece will be one of the new ones. It actually used to be a dress I upcycled a while a go but thought I'd mix it up again. I took the sleeves of the main shirt and added them into the side seams for a looser silhouette.... . Then using a second shirt I cut up the fabric, stitched it back together to make the sleeves and the ruffle detail. . This and more pieces will be available online very soon. In the meantime you can check out the pieces I've already made via www.bethanyalice.com.au/shop . I'd love to know would you have this piece in your wardrobe? See more
24.01.2022 "Do I really need to know how to sew?" YES YOU DO! . Now don't worry I'm not expecting you to take a course and be a whizz on the sewing machine. But I do think we need to learn some very simple hand techniques that every man and his dog knew a few decades ago. . So to help I have made a FREE GUIDE "3 easy sewing techniques EVERYONE should know." It's a step by step guide where I show you:... 1: How to re-attach a button 2: How to fix a hole in a seam 3: How to hem a garment. . It's the perfect time to learn, especially if you've run out of things to binge on netflix. You can download the guide via --> https://gmail.us20.list-manage.com/subscribe See more
22.01.2022 What's the real reason you're not wearing a garment? . Once you know the answer it's easy to find solutions to turn it into a piece you'll want to wear again and again. . This dress was one from my own wardrobe I found at @savers_au in Brunswick. It's such a cool piece but I just wasn't comfortable in at as the skirt was just a bit too sheer for my liking.... . I could've added a lining but I thought I'd get more wear out it as a shirt. . The seam on the waistline also made a really interesting geometric shape so I unpicked the skirt and hemmed the top and voila a piece I can wear over and over again. . I'd love to know what's the biggest problem you have with your clothes? See more
20.01.2022 More pieces coming very soon. Checkout what I made in the first collection here www.bethanyalice.com.au/shop
19.01.2022 Did you know on average, people only wear 20% of their wardrobe? . That means 80% of the clothes hanging in your wardrobe are just taking up space and gathering dust! . When I first heard this I was shocked, then honestly not surprised as I have fallen into this trap . But finally I got excited!... . 80% of your wardrobe has SO MUCH untapped potential. The possibilities to turn that into re-freshed, tailored, unique pieces is endless. . This is something I am so passionate about. Showing people all the possibilities for the clothes that aren't be worn. . For example this piece used to be an old dress. I just cut the bottom half off and added a contrasting pocket detail using some spare fabric and BAM brand new piece that can be worn over and over again. . I'd love to know, do you fall into this statistic? How much of your wardrobe are you wearing? See more

18.01.2022 The more you wear a piece, the more sustainable it becomes. This is something I always keep in mind when I make my upcycled pieces, how can it get as much wear as possible. The solution - making sure it can be styled many different ways. I created this style to be a flowy loose silhouette with adjustable straps that can be made to what ever height the wearer needs. This means it can be used a dress and a skirt.... It's made from lots of thick stretchy black jersey I had lying around in my collection. I stitched the scraps back together to make a new fabric and came up with this style from draping it on the mannequin. This garment and more are available to purchase via https://www.bethanyalice.com.au/shop I'd love to know, how many ways have you been able to style some of your favourite pieces?
18.01.2022 "I love this piece but it's just a bit too short." . This is a very common reason why some much loved pieces in the wardrobe still aren't getting worn. I often struggle with this one myself. But it is easily fixed by adding extra fabric to the hemline. . But I don't stop there I like to have fun with this alteration. Most times I like to gather a large amount of fabric to the hemline to create a unique feature. Most times I won't have the exact same fabric so I will add a con...trast colour or print for something interesting. Or if the garment has multiple colours I will select one and add a black of colour to the hem. . There are so many options to not only fix the issue, but to have fun with the garment design and make it an interesting deisng feature - almost as if it was there the whole time. . Do you have an clothes that are a bit too short? See more
17.01.2022 Miss Rona has blessed me with one thing - TIME. . Time to work on whatever I want. To be completely free to create what ever comes to mind. . In the normal hussle and bustle BC (Before Carona) I very rarely created things for me. When I finally did find the time I wasn't very inspired and didn't know where to start.... . But by being stuck at home, not being able to see clients, I had nothing but time to let myself be free and create. It's been amazing and I'm so excited with the peices I've made and am making at the moment. . I'd love to know, what's something you've been able to do during lockdown that you couldn't BC. See more
16.01.2022 B.T.S: Why not upcycle something I've already upcycled! . I had this white crop jumper (originally made from a second hand hoodie) in my collection for some time but it just wasn't going anywhere. I thought it's probably because it's a bit too short and the sleeves aren't quite long enough. . So I wanted to make it longer but have some fun with it. So I cut up an old black jumper and some amazing navy sparkly remnant fabric and added it to the hem. I also used the cuffs from ...the black jumper and added them to the sleeves. I'm thinking of adding this to my website with more pieces very soon. . If you'd like to see some pieces I've already made you can head to https://www.bethanyalice.com.au/shop See more
16.01.2022 Who knew casual wear would be the uniform of 2020? I certainly didn't when I made these bad boys . This is an alteration from a while back but probably one of my favourite challenges. This dress had been sitting in the wardobe for years, probably even decades. The fabric was beautiful but the style was a bit dated. . Luckily there was enough fabric in the dress to make a pair of relaxed, comfy happy pants (as I like to call them) to wear around the house. Perfect for, I don...'t know, a lockdown . . Do you have anything lying around in your wardrobe that can be turned into these pants? See more
15.01.2022 Who is else is excited to be able to go to markets again? I AM!!!! . In fact this Saturday from 9 I am going to be at the Ballaarat Mechanics' Institute Maker and Community Market! I am so excited to be able to meet new people, show my upcycled pieces and accessories and see other makers as well. . It’s so amazing to be able to be out and about again and I cannot wait to see you there!! I’d love to know will you be able to pop by? I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for you!
13.01.2022 I couldnt agree more. I love meeting women who are so confident in their own skin, I find that the energy is infectious. But I know that this isn’t as easy for many women. . We are still bombarded with a lot of messaging from the media and sometimes our friends and family about how we should look. What to wear, what to eat, what to weigh in order to be what society deems beautiful. . But there are also soooo many people out there doing amazing work to dismantle societal constr...ucts of beauty. Here are some amazing women, and men, who are such strong advocates for body positivity and representation of all shapes and colours. . So do yourself a favour and check them out on Instagram: @jameelajamilofficial who also runs @i_weigh @julesvonhep @bodyposipanda @bodyimagemovement @nabela who runs @zeba @beauty_redefined . Let them inspire you to love your body just as is it!! . Do you follow anyone who also does this work? Let me know because I’d love to find more amazing body positive accounts to follow See more
13.01.2022 3 tests your clothes should pass!! 1: Bust and waist; Can you breath and eat in the garment? ... 2: Hips and thighs; Can you sit down in the garment? 3: Shoulders and arms; Can you move them and hug someone in the garment? These are great little tests to do when you’re thinking of buying a new garment. If the garment fails then maybe you don’t need to buy it. Because I believe if you aren’t comfortable in a garment it’s likely you aren’t going to wear it. I’d love to know do you have your own little garment tests when purchasing new clothes?
13.01.2022 "What's a typical day like for you Beth?" Literally this most days . Messing up seams, lots of unpicking, looking for whatever implement I was literally just working worth that vanished and dealing with tired shoulders, eyes and back. It's certainly not always sunshine, glitter and fabulous things but I wouldn't change it for the world! . I absolutely love having turned my passion for fashion into a business and find sewing an awesome creative outlet, despite what it does t...o my back haha. . 13.01.2022 I don't like to throw clothes away so sometimes I'll upcycle something that's already been upcycled. . When this garment first came to me it was a long sleeve hoodie. I absolutely loved the fleece lined fabric but wasn't sure what it wanted to be so at that point I cut it up and stitched it back together into a price of fabric. . Next I made a pattern for a crop jumper and used this fabric for it, keeping the original ribbing for the neckline.... . Then many moons later I wasn't liking to short length so I added the sparkly navy piece from fabric remnants and the black piece and cuffs from a black hoodie and voila we have this piece. . This upcycled piece and more are available via https://www.bethanyalice.com.au/shop . I'd love to know what you think of it's journey? Should I turn it into something else down the road? See more
13.01.2022 I need your help deciding what to do with this jersey dress! . Should I do: OPTION 1: Cutting it shorter and using the extra fabric to make feature ruffles scattered around the top. .... OPTION 2: Adding another fabric to the hemline and sleeves and creating pleates on the sleeves to create a volumous design. . OPTION 3: Gathering another fabric and adding it to the original hemline. . I'm making this as a part of a new collection of upcycled pieces coming very soon. If you haven't seen what I've made already just head to the shop link in my bio . I cannot wait to see the results because I have no idea what to do hahah See more
10.01.2022 Clothes we love always have a story. . What's your favourite piece in your wardrobe? Now what's it's story? Do you always have amazing adventures wearing it, was it given to you by someone you love very much, does it have pockets?! . My favourite pieces have the most amazing stories of where they came from and where they have been with me, making me so proud to wear them.... . When I was making my upcycled pieces I wanted stories to come with them. I leave details from the original pieces to show where it has been before. So when someone asks you about the pieces you can tell where it had been before you and where it has been with you. . When we create amazing connections with our clothes we want to keep them in our wardrobes and wear them as much as we can. . What's the story behind your favourite piece? See more

09.01.2022 Why fashion? Good question, I ask myself this all the time during late night sewing sessions unpicking all my mistakes . But despite all the unpicking I still love fashion so much. I’ve always been a creative person and when I was younger I really liked painting. But I decided I had to be an abstract artist as I couldn’t paint . Not long after that fashion became my medium. I truly love it as I see the body as another canvas. The way we get dressed each day can tel...l the world who we are without having to say a single word. One day you might want to be a power house, other days you might want to be more casual and flirty. The choices are endless. . I love being able to create all types of pieces for all different types of people to help them be who they want to be. That is why I choose fashion. Oh and I really love shiny things . 08.01.2022 UPCYCLED PIECE: A simple classic black batwing shirt. . I had a lot of black jersey t-shirts in my collection so I decided to use as many as I could in one garment. I chopped them up and stitched them back together to make a new fabric. I added a white contrasting stitch over all the seams so you can see where the original pieces have been placed together. . I then cut a pattern for a batwing style long sleeve shirt with a high low hemline from this fabric. Then I used the ri...bbed cuffs and neckline from one of the shirts to finish of the piece. . This shirt ended up using nearly 3 old shirts. You can purchase this and see more of my upcycled pieces online via www.bethanyalice.com.au/shop See more

07.01.2022 Have you heard of my service called "the Beth pile"? . I found a lot of clients I've worked with had a few pieces they wanted altered, weren't quite sure how and had been meaning to get to me for some time. I coined this collection "the Beth pile." . This service includes:... A 40 minutes consult at your home (or virtually if that suits you better) I show you all the ways the garments can be altered 5 garment alterations . Here's what one of my clients who booked in this package had to say: " I had 5 garments altered and I was so happy it felt like I had a whole new wardobe and I am excited to wear them again!" . 07.01.2022 I LOVE solving a great alterations challenge. . This one was a bit of a challenge because we wanted to make this pieces shorter but we didn’t want to get rid of the beautiful pleating detail around the hemline. . So we decided to cut fabric away from the waistband to make it shorter. Then I just added in a couple of darts to get the perfect fit. ... . So now it’s shorter, nice and fitted around the waist and still has the beautiful pleated feature around the hemline. . So it looks like I’ll still be in lockdown for a few more weeks, but if you have been interested in working with me head to https://www.bethanyalice.com.au/work-with-me to find out how, let me know if you have any questions and I’ll pop you on a wait list and get in touch as soon as I’m free. 07.01.2022 A small addition can make a massive difference to an old garment. . I found a box filled with my old jewellery recently. 03.01.2022 "I just don't like this part!" This is a very common reason that stops people from wearing their clothes. . There isn't anything wrong with the fit or fabric but it just has some design features that aren't necessary or are just annoying. So why not change it. . For this garment I removed the extra fabric around the bust that was just unnecessary. But I took it a step further and created a small V type feature and used the removed fabric to create a thin belt like feature. ... .
