25.01.2022 Please take care, Canberra. It wouldn’t take much for this outbreak in SA to spread to Canberra, and we will be back in dire straits! Please reconsider any travel to SA and make sure if you visit, or are in close contact with anyone who has been to SA, that you get tested immediately if you begin to show any symptoms.

25.01.2022 Did you know that for every first preference vote the major parties get, they get $8.62 for EACH VOTE? This is because the ACT Government set it up so they each will collect hundreds of thousands of dollars for every vote they receive once they hit 4% of votes. That’s a LOT of tax payer money, just for getting your first preference votes. ... If you give your vote to a minor party or independent this election, you will be helping to achieve better democracy. Because if we reach 4%, that will help us to fund our next campaign. But more importantly, we just want to get elected so we can hold the government to account. VOTE 1 CANBERRA PROGRESSIVES #DemandBetter

25.01.2022 My campaigning has been very much a family and friends affair, and I’m so, so lucky to have such AWESOME people in my life who have worked so hard to help me! I thank every one of you from the bottom of my heart! #bethany4yerrabi

25.01.2022 This is a tweet from Canberra Liberal MLA Jeremy Hanson from 2019. School kids had planned a protest to try and get the government to take action on climate change. They had planned to protest outside Canberra Federal Senator Zed Seselja’s office, but Zed didn’t even give them the respect of being there to meet them. ... We all know Zed is aligned with the LNP’s worship of the fossil fuel industry. But for Jeremy Hanson to mock and ridicule the school kids - who are genuinely distraught for the future that is being taken away from them - is incredibly distasteful and disrespectful. Clearly Jeremy is unable to make the distinction between ‘weather’ and ‘climate’ if he thinks a cold snap means that climate change isn’t a thing. And we all witnessed how the bushfires decimated south-east Australia not long after this inane tweet from Jeremy. I’m sharing this, because Jeremy Hanson is being touted as the next leader of the Canberra Liberals, now that Alistair Coe’s leadership in untenable. He last thing we need is more middle-aged , climate change denying, white men in charge. If the Canberra Liberals has any brain cells to rub together, they should be supporting Elizabeth Lee to be the new leader. They need to eradicate the hard-right toxic conservatives in the party who have made it so unpalatable for voters.

22.01.2022 I think Canberrans DO deserve so much better. But they are not going to get it with a Canberra Liberal government. This party worships neoliberalism - which puts the wealthy and elite’s priorities over the rest of the population. ... The Canberra Liberals are no different to their federal counterparts. And if given the opportunity, they will treat Canberra with the exact same contempt that the Morrison government treats the country. It’s impossible to spend more with less. The Canberra Liberals will break their promises if elected and Canberra will be much worse off. VOTE 1 CANBERRA PROGRESSIVES #Bethany4Yerrabi

21.01.2022 Now mum and I are at Casey Market Town - I admit, I came here especially for the salad snack pack at Lokma Turkish Cuisine! Next stop - LETTERBOXING!!! VOTE 1 Bethany Williams ... Canberra Progressives for Yerrabi #Bethany4Yerrabi

21.01.2022 I got my ‘political fan girl’ on today when I went to see Kevin Rudd speak at the National Press Club about the cancer in democracy (Murdoch and his monopoly of the Australian media). The problem with Murdoch controlling the media is that his style of *journalism* is more opinion than fact, and he blatantly supports right-wing governments, because they align with his personal politics of ensuring that governments support and protect big business. At the expense of everyone... else. The LNP and Murdoch have a you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours arrangement, whereby the LNP get very favourable media coverage and donations, in exchange for Murdoch paying no tax and being able to trample over the truth with impunity. As truth in journalism erodes, we can no longer know what is reality, and governments can extend their control over us, because we will be oblivious to what is actually happening. Eventually, we’ll probably end up a cross between China under the CCP, and George Orwell’s 1984. It’s not a future I’m comfortable with, but if we keep being complacent and have that it won’t happen here attitude, we are going to end up in creek. On a positive note - I also got to meet Mike Bowers from #TalkingPictures on #InsidersABC! Peta Swarbrick

19.01.2022 This just popped up on my feed. My first thought was Yes! On October 17. I hope so too! #Bethany4Yerrabi

18.01.2022 Have we, in our overwhelming endorsement of the Labor/Greens government, declared that we are fine with this and that it reflects our values and priorities? No Jon. Canberra voters were smart enough to smell something rotten, and there is no way they were going to elect a toxic Canberra Liberal government. ... So while Labor is stale, arrogant and complacent, Canberra sent a clear message that they would rather have Labor than a right-wing, conservative government. The Canberra Liberals need a purge at all levels, and they need to change the culture of the party.

18.01.2022 SURVEY RESULTS - - - - - The results of the Canberra Progressives 2020 ACT Politics Survey have revealed that Canberra voters don’t have much trust or confidence in our major parties. In the lead up to the ACT Election, the Canberra Progressives ran an online survey to gauge the current and past opinions and knowledge of ACT voters. Here's a summary of the findings... But we don’t need a survey to tell us that both major parties are failing the people of Canberra. ... #DemandBetter VOTE 1 - Canberra Progressives

18.01.2022 Hi I’ll. I’ve decided to delete the Facebook app from my devices. I’m deeply unhappy with Facebook’s decision to remove not just media, but also other information that’s crucial to providing information to its users. I can’t support a company that makes so much money from using our personal data, but won’t share that money with news outlets who do the work to provide us with information. ... I won’t delete my profile just yet. If Facebook decides to do the right thing, I’ll come back. But the only way we can send a message is to stop using Facebook. I’ll still be on my Twitter account - @BethanyinCBR - where I’m very prolific! Let’s see how this plays out!

17.01.2022 White entitlement. White supremacy. Racism. Whatever it’s called, its what the Morrison government exudes in spades. Just when you think the LNP has stopped so low, it stoops even lower again. ... The LNP (of course, supported by Pauline Hanson) refused to fly the aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags alongside the colonist’s flag. I’m so, so ashamed of how this governent treats First Nations People, women, people with disability, and refugees. I hope that Biden being elected is a sign that people have had enough of the hate of the toxic far right conservatives. Hate and bigotry are not an ‘alternative view’. They are a choice that people make to use their white entitlement to oppress and discriminate against others. Maybe next election, the people who believed the LNP’s lies will now see how revolting the LNP are, and make sure they don’t get another chance to destroy our country any more.

16.01.2022 It’s not just about the policies of the party. It’s the individuals who are in the party who are so repellant to the people of the ACT. Canberrans do not want a bunch of toxic bullies who are alt-right conservative, and who are deeply religious - knowing that their religion will influence their policy decision making. ... The Canberra Liberals have a dreadful culture and a dreadful reputation that can only be gotten rid of by getting rid of all the toxic right, and bringing the more moderate people back who will set the time and refuse to accept bad behaviour. Having members who steal signs and bully opponents is NOT the behaviour of a party who expects to be taken seriously. This behaviour is despicable, and the party needs to ensure it in NOT tolerated. Ever. Josh Manuatu must go. Alistair Coe must go. And every other toxic member who engages in hateful and aggressive behaviour. You can’t rebuild the party without getting rid of the people who damage the party’s reputation. And most of all, the Canberra Liberals need to completely sever ties with Zed Seselja. He is the head at the top of this rotting fish, and putting a stop to his damaging influence will go a long way helping the Canberra Liberals gaining any credibility. Let’s see if the party has the guts to look at itself and make the hard decisions. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.....

15.01.2022 We should be EQUALLY OUTRAGED when an Aboriginal woman is the victim of violence, but as a country, we are not. This is racism. The lives of Aboriginal women are just as important as white women, and we must represent and support all women. ... This is an open letter to Our Watch, asking that a First Nations woman lead Our Watch alongside Natasha Stott Despija. If we are going to walk the talk of including ALL women, we need to push for organisations like Our Watch to look more broadly about feminist issues and be more intersectional.

15.01.2022 The Canberra Liberals’ propaganda machine - Canberra City News is stretching to make up stories to prop up the Canberra Liberals. Between harassing and intimidating candidates with lies (me) and putting forward unvetted and questionable candidates - including one in Kurrajong who some parts of the media have been questioning - the Canberra Liberals just don’t have it together. They are lucky to have City News being so blindly faithful and publishing fiction to help them out.... It’s just like Murdoch tabloids supporting the LNP, even when their corruption is so overt. Canberrans deserve so much better than the offering put forward by the Canberra Liberals. While there are some decent people in the Party, the standard that Alistair Coe knowingly accepts amongst some of his candidates is not the standard that the ACT needs. We need MUCH better than this. And we need leadership that puts values and integrity as the highest priorities. Don’t waste your vote on the Canberra Liberals. #DemandBetter VOTE 1 CANBERRA PROGRESSIVES #Bethany4Yerrabi

14.01.2022 It’s been a really stressful and crazy 24-hours for me, but I have learned so much. Especially about l how much I don’t like being falsely accused of something. On Wednesday night, I was putting out more of my corflutes, because mine have been disappearing left, right and centre. Coincidentally, lots of Canberra Liberals signs pop up in the exact same spots mine went missing from. ...Continue reading

14.01.2022 HELLO AMAROO! Today I am letterboxing in your beautiful suburb! And what a stunner! ... I can best characterise you as the suburb of road trips (I can see so many caravans and boats) basketball hoops and beautiful gardens. And the houses in Yerrabi Pond ....... 14.01.2022 This is EXACTLY why minor parties and independents are so important for democracy. We are there for the people - not to prop up the party. If you want better government that works for the community, vote for a minor party or independent in Canberra on Oct 17. ... VOTE 1 BETHANY WILLIAMS #Bethany4Yerrabi

11.01.2022 Another spot on article from the RiotACT.

09.01.2022 THIS sums up so perfectly WHY I want to get into government. The major parties have lost sight of WHY they are there. They have forgotten why they are there - which is to REPRESENT THE PEOPLE IN THROR ELECTORATES. ... They ARE NOT there to be selfish and greedy. Not to bow to their party ideologies and vested interests. They are supported to be working for US. The people. I want to change this. I want to represent the people in my electorate FIRST AND FOREMOST. Because it is they who will be voting for me to represent THEM. And I will do everything I can to listen to their wishes and be their voice in the Legislative Assembly. VOTE 1 BETHANY WILLIAMS Canberra Progressives candidate for YERRABI #Bethany4Yerrabi

09.01.2022 Why did Andrew Barr pay $4 million for land worth $1 million? - - - - - - - - This question should have been answered by our ACT Independent Corruption Commissi...on. But as you know this has been skillfully been delayed by our Labor/Green government. #DemandBetter Canberra Progressives

09.01.2022 It was such a great honour to present the Nippers Champion and Nippers Competitor Champion awards at the Canberra/Mollymook Nippers presentation this morning! I established my first Canberra Nippers club (Canberra/Broulee Nippers) in 2017, and Canberra/Mollymook Nippers in 2018, and while I am no longer involved in the clubs, it was so lovely for Peter Innes to invite me to present these perpetual awards. Peter and Carley have done an incredible job building such a friendly, welcoming and inclusive club with the Canberra/Mollymook Nippers. The wonderful culture is a credit to both of them, and all of the other parents who have worked tirelessly to make the club such a success.

08.01.2022 If gendered violence and discrimination is something you deeply care about stopping, sign up to 16 days of activism against gendered violence and discrimination. The events are free and available in eventbrite. The links are in the comments section.

07.01.2022 It’s terrible now under Labor. But it will be MUCH worse under the Canberra (neo) Liberals. The solution to better government isn’t to elect a party who is cutting taxes - meaning it will have even less to spend on hospitals and other essential services. ... The solution is to vote for a diverse cross bench. Think of us as smart, sensible scrutineers, who’s ONLY stakeholders are YOU. Canberrans. Not party ideology. Not party factions or egos. And definitely not secret donors and vested interests. It makes sense to vote differently this election, because this time, you have a viable choice: The Canberra Progressives. We will work for YOU in the Legislative Assembly. VOTE 1 Bethany Williams #Bethany4Yerrabi

06.01.2022 I love this initiative! Please sign the petition and get behind it. With such little effort, we can do our bit to help the environment.

06.01.2022 The Canberra Drivers Facebook page have given me the opportunity to talk about my first car, Rolf. A baby poo yellow Toyota Corona that I absolutely loved! I could only get AM radio, and listened to 1053 2CA - Forever Classic all day and night - which is where I learned all the words to where do you go to my lovely? By Peter Sarstedt!!!!

06.01.2022 Great question, well asked! The LNP promised TWO BILLION DOLLARS to help people and communities affected by the bushfires, but so many people in these communities are asking where this money is. So many are STILL living in substandard accommodation, while they wait and wait for this money that has been promised, but never delivered. ... Another kick in the guts is that after the worst bushfires we have experienced in our lifetime, the LNP has refused to buy a fleet of water bombers to help fight bushfires. We desperately need them as they save homes and more importantly, they save lives. How can the government refuse to help Aussies who have lost everything, AND refuse to purchase the water bombers we need to help fight future bushfires?

06.01.2022 I’m tired of the COVID deniers playing down the seriousness of this virus. Because it’s not just the death rate that is a huge consequence, but it’s the unknown ongoing health impacts of this virus that are deeply concerning. Some people do seem to recover ok, but many are having deliberating effects long after, as the virus impacts various organs in the body. ... Alistair Coe with his neoliberal ideology would have had Canberra open for business all through the outbreak, putting so many more Canberran lives at risk. And we are only able to go back to work and go about our lives because the restrictions we were placed under saw COVID disappear in Canberra. Under a Canberra Liberal government, the demands of the wealthy and big corporations will be placated, while the average person struggles. This is the modus operandi of Liberal Governments, and the Canberra Liberals are NO BETTER. In fact, they are MORE conservative and MORE far-right than other Liberal branches in Australia. We just cannot risk electing a Liberal Government here. Please give your protest vote against ACT Labor to the Canberra Progressives so we can hold the government to account and put Canberrans FIRST. VOTE 1 CANBERRA PROGRESSIVES For better government that represents YOU. #Bethany4Yerrabi

05.01.2022 I’ll pay this one, Tim Böhm - Canberra Progressives!

05.01.2022 It’s taken me a couple of days to sift through the multitude of my thoughts following the election on Saturday. The day after the election was my birthday, which was spent running my kids around to their sports in between driving all over Yerrabi looking for my corflutes. To be honest, it will be so easy to slot back into my ‘normal’ life, because throughout the entire campaign, I worked full time and didn’t take a single day off. ... My entire campaign was done on weekends and evenings, in between looking after my kids and trying to find time to do my laundry! I couldn’t have done it though, without the help of Michael Simmons, who has been my unofficial campaign manager and my absolute ROCK. Thank you Michael for walking over 100kms letterboxing for me, for helping me put up and take down my corflutes, and for putting up with my self-obsession of the last few months. Thanks also to my BFF Anita van Bijsterveld for being such an amazing and supportive friend. Your support has meant so much. Thank you to Peta Swarbrick for also being such a strong supporter and role model for me. I have learned so much from you, and you truly inspire me. We will achieve great things together. And thanks to my other volunteers who have given up their time to help me, simply because they are fabulous human beings! Your help truly made a difference - because it was the difference between running a weak and a strong campaign - and I KNOW my campaign was strong! So far, I have 1033 first preference votes. That is a PHENOMENAL result for a first time election! It means I cut through to 1033 people who trusted me enough to put a number 1 next to my name! That is such an incredible honour for me and makes me even more determined to keep going, so I can prove to those 1033 that they have put their faith in the right person. So what’s the plan from here? I want to get into politics for so many reasons. I want to go after corruption. I want to fight climate change. I want to fight for gender equality and reduce domestic and family violence. I want our kids to have an amazing future to look forward to, so I want to fight climate change and protect the environment. And I want to bring common sense and common decency back into politics. To do these things, I need to be in the places where decisions are made, and so I will try again next time. In the meantime, I’d like to keep the conversation going here. I’ll get around to changing the name of the page shortly, but I’d like to keep this page open to share information and thoughts about politics in Canberra, and in Australia more broadly. So if you would like to go on my journey with me, I’d love you to come along. The more the merrier.

04.01.2022 Is it time for Coe to go? You all know my answer! The RiotACT has a poll in this article so you can vote to send a message!

03.01.2022 The LNP didn’t consult with the bushfire recovery agency when it handed out money. And it COMPLETELY ignored the people in Eden-Monaro, one of the hardest hit areas.

03.01.2022 In case you haven’t heard, there is going to be a MASSIVE march against violence, sexism, misogyny and the patriarchy more broadly on Monday, 15 March. #March4Justice. This gathering is going to send a very strong message to the government that times up. We have had enough! ... This morning I got to join the Canberra march organising crew at the Amnesty International Australia ACT headquarters to make signs for the march. I knew my corflutes would come to good use one day!!!

03.01.2022 The numbers are getting a little higher!!!

02.01.2022 The far right of the Canberra Liberals know they are deeply unpopular, so they are rushing a preselection through for Zed Seselja now to bamboozle the Canberra Liberal moderate members to make sure Zed keeps his spot. More Canberra Liberal tactics designed to hero the moderate factions down.

02.01.2022 There’s hope for political journalism in Canberra (even if our Chief Minister begs to differ) - - - - - - - - - - During our campaign, we have been lucky to ha...ve Nicola Ceccato University of Canberra journalism student (@UCPressClub) come and spend some time with us. Nicola is writing a piece for her Uni course, her lecturer Greg Jericho (@GrogsGamut columnist politics for the Guardian) sent her out with a challenging task to get to know some minor parties and to see what and how they work. During our campaigning with Nicola, we bumped into Peter Martin (@1petermartin Economy Editor at The Conversation), who is a good friend of Greg Jericho. With quality journalists like this teaching and floating around Canberra, the future might not be as bad as everyone predicts for journalists. I did ask Nicola what she had done to make Andrew Barr (@ABarrMLA) ‘HATE HER’ for wanting to be a journalist and she assures me nothing. https://www.canberratimes.com.au//i-hate-journalists-and-/ We are looking forward to reading Nicola final pieces when it comes out after the election. - - - Peta Swarbrick-Bryant Canberra Progressives for Kurrajong Therese Faulkner - Canberra Progressives for Kurrajong

02.01.2022 Go Peta Swarbrick-Bryant Canberra Progressives for Kurrajong - you are AMAZING!!!

01.01.2022 On Friday, I wrote to Josh Manuatu, the Director of the Canberra Liberals, asking for: If James Milligan inappropriately used his position as an MLA to obtain my personal phone number in order to harass and intimidate me An apology from James Milligan. ... I gave them 48-hours to respond. Unfortunately, the Canberra Liberals do not consider this behaviour to be unacceptable, and have not deemed it necessary to respond to my request. The Canberra Progressives have issued a media release to express how disappointing it is for elected officials to behave in such an arrogant and contemptuous manner. People who normally vote Liberal need to know what this party stands for. Nothing.

01.01.2022 If you love to walk, do fun things with your work colleagues (or with your friends or family) , AND love raising money for really worthy causes, then the Rotary Aussie Peace Walk is the event not to miss! The Rotary Aussie Peace walk are putting the call out for teams (or single registrations) to help them raise money to vaccinate kids in nine countries in our Pacific neighbourhood against diseases and viruses that we are all so lucky in Australia to be vaccinated for. This... project was created when 83 lives were lost in a Samoa due to a measles outbreak in 2019. 87% of these deaths were children under 5. We can help get kids in Samoa, and eight other Pacific countries vaccinated so that they don’t experience this again, and that’s where you come in. We need you to get a work team together, hit up your family or your friends and register to do the Aussie Peace Walk on 27-29 March. And I’ll see you at the end when you can buy a Devonshire tea from me and the ladies from the Zonta Club of Canberra at Albert Hall!

01.01.2022 I completely support banning the use of corflutes in the next election. Besides being a hideous assault on the eyes, the major parties try and drown out the minors and independents by polluting the landscape with theirs. Because they have the money and the resources to put so many out. Too many. ... A certain party (who shall remain nameless) also allegedly engages in corflute stealing. Fifty-four of my own corflutes were stolen without a trace over three weeks. This party is said to have an individual who drives around in a truck late at night stealing their opposition’s corflutes. The 54 of mine stolen set me back about $810, not including the cost of petrol and my time over several days. When you’re funding your own campaign and relying on the generosity of strangers through a small, grassroots fundraising campaign, that’s a huge chunk of material and money to lose. And it’s dirty, low tactics. So I urge the ACT Greens to completely ban corflutes next election. It would be a great thing for the territory.

01.01.2022 Of course Tudge and Robert won’t be stood down. The LNP rewards incompetence and waste.

01.01.2022 We had a really great day today with the Zonta Club of Canberra stuffing and sewing breast cushions to donate to hospitals for women who have had breast surgery.... It’s so wonderful to contribute to something that gives women some comfort during a really difficult time. I love being a part of the Zonta Club - and if you have been looking for a community organisation that you can be a part of that gives you the opportunity to help out women in need - this is a lovely way to give some of your time, and be a part of a really lovely group of women
