25.01.2022 There are in fact two things, science and opinion; the former begets knowledge, the latter ignorance. ~ Hippocrates ~ . #influencer #ignorance #knowledge #opinion #science #research #educate #health #qualityoflife #nutrition #movement #bethebestme #qualifiedhealthprofessional #nutritionist

25.01.2022 Feeding my #body and my #soul . . When there is excess external noise in my environment, I can do two things. Participate or seek quiet. .... I prefer to quell the #monkeymind and seek quiet. . I do this by reducing the distractions (she says as she types on Insta). . I have removed myself from most groups on Facebook and disabled notifications. Unsubscribed from emails that I never read. And.. planned my #dinner for the coming week. . Planning might not seem like much but it provides a sense of direction, purpose and focus. When I prepare and cook meals my mind is quiet. It is a #mindful practice of such. . The smells, the sounds, the process. And eventually.. the #taste . For me.. much like the practice of yoga, food planning, preparing and cooking quiets the monkey mind within. . I can cook food to support my body, my #health #energy and my #immunesystem which is something positive I can all do in this current climate and with the change of seasons. . Wellness for the body and mind. . Disable the noise around you. Find your peaceful place even if it is for a moment when you close the car door before starting the engine. Turn off the radio and enjoy the sounds of nature, wind wooshing past. Dogs barking, dinner smells at dusk wafting past. . What ever it is you do for your health and wellbeing. May you and your love ones be nourished. . Wishing you all abundant health, kindness in your heart. Kind thoughts for others and yourself and kind words. . 24.01.2022 27 Days down, 4 days to go! Thank you to everyone for your support during Dry July, be it in words, cheers, spirit and in donations. Only a few days to go..... Any donation, cents or dollars is greatly appreciated and will go towards individuals and their families affected by Cancer. I won’t lie. The weekends have been challenging but once I’ve passed the witching hour the desire for alcohol has passed. 31 days without alcohol sounds tough. But there are worst things in life. In the end. I have my health. Thank you friends Bec

22.01.2022 Diamond in the rough. Seasonal Pumpkin roasted in olive oil and home made Sri Lankan curry powder. Oh and half a cauliflower as it was in the fridge. . It may not look pretty. But in a couple of hours it will be a golden soup. Hearty, warming, comforting.... Food for the soul and the body. . 21.01.2022 Have your cake and eat it too. As someone who lives with a number of food allergies and intolerances. I eat fresh food and very little processed food. (Smiths plain crisps and very dark Lindt chocolate that’s about it). And wine when it’s not Dry July.... And, I can honestly say. I enjoy what I eat, it’s simple, fresh and straight forward. Sometimes, I will see something and think ooh that looks nice. And I can imagine how it would taste. I don’t crave what I miss. Nor, do I often miss what I cannot have. But every now and then I think.. It has been years (decades maybe) since I ate a piece of good (real) brownie or cake. And wish I could figure out a similar chocolate cake texture and tastes that isn’t like cardboard. Plus. If I do buy a packaged food item or the like. I want to see a small ingredient list, with no numbers, rubbish or require a periodical table to decipher what the word/ingredient is. It shouldn’t take up the entire packet to tell me what’s in it. That’s not food. Well. I think I may have just come close. Keep it cleaner cake mix. 5 ingredients in the packet all with words you can pronounce and know what they are. So. If you are like me and what something quick and fun to try. Have food restrictions or not. Try this one out for size. I found it in an isle at Coles. Jazzed it up a little on my end. But hey, that’s half the fun. Enjoy exploring. Happy cake and eating it too. Bec

15.01.2022 A few good reasons to move.

15.01.2022 Weather is warming up. I’m preparing for smoothie and frappes season. May have got a little carried away with these $1 a punnet strawberries.... (That’s only half of them) Great for freezing, compote or enjoying now on and in your breakfast or try them in a mixed salad leaf salad with a drizzle of balsamic. Yum! Also an excellent way to hydrate both little and big people. Not a fan of drinking water or often forget. Why not eat it?! Enjoy the winter strawberries. I’m off to top and freeze these babies. Happy healthy bodies. Bec #strawberries #hydrate #yum #newcastle #lakemacquarie #bethebestme #nutrtionist

13.01.2022 A few people have asked me lately what I’ve thought about the evidence is behind drugs that are already on the market in the treatment of COVID-19 and why aren’...t they being used. To which I generally respond that’s a tricky question. I don’t know enough about these and I am a staunch believer in evidence based medicine. In doing some research. I came across this commentary video from Medscape it is Impact Factor with F. Perry Wilson I found it interesting. You may too. As quoted by F. Perry Wilson ‘Appreciating the strengths and weaknesses of all data’

10.01.2022 I was feeling a little ordinary today. As though a bug was trying to take hold. Food as medicine is what this not doctor ordered.... Mexican inspired Lime Chicken Soup. Take 1 whole chicken. Simmer to create delicious stock. (Could use legs) Cook some jasmine rice on the side Slice cucumber, chop tomato, dice avocado, chop some onion and squeeze a lime. Or two. Add some chopped coriander/cilantro and some chilli. Chuck it all in a bowl on top of a serve of rice. Add the some chicken, stock.. Voila! Fresh, vibrant, nourishing and you just can’t beat chicken soup for the body and the soul. Feeling better already. Filled with chilli, vitamin C and vitamin soup. (Yes. That’s a real thing. 09.01.2022 A brief hiatus. . This year has seen a lot of change in many aspects of our lives. For an enormous amount of people across the globe and locally. . Change can be difficult, prickly, scary and if we can and dare.., it can provide the opportunity to reflect, grow and once again rise resplendent.... . For me. This is how I am embracing change. After much internal kicking and screaming, a load of nice and not so nice self talk. And finally, being kind and listening to myself. . I have decided to take an extended break from teaching yoga and private naturopathic nutrition consults. . So, that I may focus on other projects including additional study. And in time, return with comprehensive wellness programs and other exciting things to support your health and wellbeing. . If you are a fitness group interested in utilising the InBody 570, Body Composition scanner for your next group challenge please contact me via email or phone to discuss how I can support your program and members. . 07.01.2022 You plan your work. You plan your food. You plan your day. But do you plan your joy?... Michelle Obama shares her views on planning joy. And how she manages her wellbeing. May watching this bring you joy. When planning your health, include more than the food you put in to your body and the physical movement in your day. Include the thoughts and activities that bring you joy. Wellness encompasses more than the food and exercise. It is emotional, physical, social, financial, occupational, spiritual, environmental. Are you in balance with these pillars of wellness? Or are you out of a balance? Now is a good day, for a good day! 07.01.2022 Easy as.. One.. Two.. Three... Shake. Just like that. Side salad to serve with Friday Night Wings is done.... Chop 3 good handfuls of kale Chop 1/4 head of a small red cabbage Grate 2 medium carrots Add each to a large bowl as you chop. Stick another bowl on top (of the same size) and shake or turn over a few times. Ta da! Making dinner sides can be as simple or as complicated as you want. On a Friday night. I opt for easy, hassle free, but still nutritious. Particularly since Friday night at our house is home made wok fried wing night. Sans the usual accompaniment of champagne as it is Dry July. Oh and best thing about this quick and easy salad. It is not dressed. So you can add what ever you want to your serve or enjoy it as. There is approx 4-6 serves so we have lunch fillings, another salad, stir fry or omelette base ready to go. Winning!! I’ll probably add sesame seeds, toasted sesame oil, apple cider or rice vinegar and some tahini or mayo to my serve of salad. Yes. I have a thing for sesame at the moment. My body is telling me I need a potassium hit I suspect. What ever you are having for dinner. May it fill and fuel your body, your heart and soul. Bec
