24.01.2022 Today I handed over the keys to the former Waratah Hotel to Stephanie Kirkman Meikle, of Bethlehem House Tasmania. Once an iconic watering hole, this site was p...urchased in September last year and has now been converted into 24 units of long term supported accommodation for homeless men. Thanks to builders Fairbrother and PhilpLighton Architects for their great work on this important project. See more

15.01.2022 A milestone moment today as Minister for Housing Roger Jaensch MP hands over the keys to the former Waratah Hotel at 272 Murray St to Bethlehem House Tasmania CEO Stephanie Meikle. The property will provide long-term supported accommodation. Stephanie said:'This is the best Christmas present ever and we are very thankful for the opportunity, at 272 Murray St, to provide a home to 24 unaccompanied men from the priority housing waiting list, who are currently homeless or have... been living in inadequate accommodation. This is an extremely important and most welcome resource for Hobart. For Bethlehem House, the additional facility will enable us to extend the range of models of support and wraparound care we provide. It will add greater capacity to the community sector support system and will help to break the cycle of long-term homelessness. How good is it that we can now extend our mission as a Special Work of St Vincent de Paul Society, by housing men and helping them to build their capacity, confidence and community connection. It is simple: having a permanent place to call home is key to recovery.’ Bethlehem House Tasmania #politas

05.01.2022 The Mercury Newspaper - 'Bethlehem House has been contracted to operate the supported housing facility at 272 Murray Street, which aims to provide long-term accommodation for single men who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. It’s the best Christmas present that we could ever have had, Bethlehem House CEO Stephanie Meikle said. Here at 272 Murray Street, everybody has an individual bedroom with a nice view over the city. They are ensuite rooms furnished to a very high... standard. She added the building had two lounge areas, a dining room, would soon have a gym installed, and staff on-site to assist with chores, teach life skills, and provide mental health, drug and alcohol support.
02.01.2022 We were delighted to welcome Bethlehem House Tasmania Patron William Cox, , AC, RFD, ED, QC, and his wife Jocelyn for morning tea with some of our residents, Bethlehem House Board Chair Adriana Taylor and CEO Stephanie Meikle. William took on the patronage of Bethlehem House in 2004, when he became Governor General of Tasmania. Prior to that he served as Chief Justice and Lieutenant Governor. He is now stepping back from the role of Patron and handing the mantle to Bethlehem House's Ambassadors.
02.01.2022 The 'Safe Space' program has been assured for at least another year and a half, as part of the recent stage budget, which includes nearly $17 million- 'enough to run Safe Space for another 18 months, offering the homeless shelter and linking them to support including drug and alcohol services and housing.' 01.01.2022 Premier Peter Gutwein and Minister Roger Jaensch MP today officially opened 8 new affordable homes, built by https://www.sjah.org.au/ St. Joseph Affordable Homes, a Social Impact company established by CatholicCare Tasmania and Centacare Evolve Housing. Great initiative and partnership between Government and the Catholic Church. It was really inspiring to hear about the homes going up within 5 months and 6 new apprenticeships created. Well done to them. More houses on the way too.
