19.01.2022 I woke up this morning and before I could get my TMJ retainer out of my mouth I had an idea I needed to get out of my head and straight into your ears. Motivati...on is garbage. To change your life you need discipline. Don’t let that word discipline scare you. Discipline just means making and keeping small promises to yourself. Keeping promises to yourself is at the heart of changing your habits, setting boundaries and achieving goals. To create the life YOU envision you must learn how to keep the promises you make it to yourself especially when it’s uncomfortable to do so. The easiest way to practice discipline is by getting out of bed when the alarm goes off. Start here: when you go to bed tonight, be very intentional about what time you set the alarm for, be conscious of what would truly support you and the changes you want to make in your life and then pick a very purposeful time to wake up. You get extra points if you make it kind of weird like 6:13 AM. That kind of specificity has a very clear intention behind it. When you set the alarm this way, you are making a promise to your future self. Tomorrow morning when that alarm rings, your job is to keep the promise you made to yourself last night when you set the alarm. I’ve been doing this for 11 years and it hasn’t gotten any easier to get up but I have the discipline to do it. Seriously- discipline in one area of your life will trickle into others areas of your life. If you can keep promises to yourself, even when it’s uncomfortable, you’ll be able to do it in other situations too. So if you’re ready to change your life, let’s get serious right now and tell me the super random, highly intentional time you’re going to set your alarm for tomorrow morning. Mine? 5:57am. PS.
