25.01.2022 Feel like you’re getting whiplash from the different roles you have to play on any given day? When leading people, you will find yourself moving between three roles. 1. Leader setting direction, building team culture, motivating people 2. Coach working with the team and the individuals to bring out their best ... 3. Manager day-to-day management and supervision Hectic but exhilarating! Great leaders are adaptors. They change their style based on the needs of the individuals within their team. For example, high performers need coaches, whereas low performers need managers. And they all need leaders. How do you work out how to adapt your style? Try the easy to use Skill/will matrix! You can download it here https://buff.ly/2PZhsoV You'll be surprised how much you learn about your team by looking at things from a skill vs will perspective.

24.01.2022 The difference between a good leader and a great leader is one who learns to anticipate rather than react.

23.01.2022 Successful teamwork is built on a foundation of trust!

22.01.2022 I love this quote! "A leader's job is not to do the work for others; it's to help others figure out how to do it for themselves, to get things done and succeed beyond what they thought possible."

22.01.2022 Over the coming months, I will be inviting some experienced leaders along to share their knowledge and experience with the Better Bosses community! So I thought I'd kick it off by answering 5 questions about what I have learnt over the years from leading people. Watch this short video to hear my answers.

21.01.2022 I filmed this short video a couple of weeks ago when it was still Winter, and want to share it with you because it's so important to take a moment for yourself, especially in this current environment. Taking time out of the day for yourself is one of the most important lessons I have learnt over the years! As leaders, we live busy lives with hundreds of demands for our time and attention every day. In the long run, taking some time to improve yourself brings a better, more effective you to everything you do. Check out my short video where I share what I do to look after myself both physically and mentally.

18.01.2022 Trust breaker - be careful not to micromanage! If you are closely monitoring or controlling the work of one of your team members, they will feel you do not trust them. They'll get frustrated, start second guessing themselves and eventually lose confidence. Ask yourself why you are managing them this way? Chances are it’s about you, not them.

18.01.2022 In my latest podcast "How to lead when you're being led by a challenging boss", I discuss something that everyone grapples with at least once in their career - working for a difficult boss. If you haven't listened to it yet, make sure you check it out here: https://buff.ly/3jat3h9 It would be great to hear about your experience. Comment below about one lesson you've learnt from working with a challenging boss.

15.01.2022 I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Angela Greenwood, Director of Acquisition and Customer Marketing at Optus, for the Better Bosses Lessons Learnt podcast series. In this podcast, Angela answers the Better Bosses Fast Five questions and talks about how important it is to give feedback and that it’s ok not to know it all. Angela then shares her story of transitioning from leading a small team to a larger group of 20 and then 58. You’ll hear about:... How important it is to resist the need to prove yourself and take action as soon as you start a new role. Better to seek to understand and listen, then look to how you can add value How she learnt to overcome the fear of the transition by tackling it head-on, dropping her armour and becoming vulnerable How she learnt to let go of the need to be liked at all times so she could have tough but honest conversations with her team Tips for hiring the right people The podcast is available on most podcast apps, including Apple. Just search for Better Bosses Lessons Learnt or click here to listen to it on Spotify https://buff.ly/2SalBra. Enjoy and thank you Angela Greenwood for your time.

14.01.2022 Trust is the foundation of any relationship and every high performing team! I recorded this podcast because it's so important to understand the things that can destroy trust and the things that can build trust. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, you can do so here or on one of your favourite podcast apps. https://buff.ly/2FGxAtC

13.01.2022 Two cents Tuesday! Today's topic - 'Try not to give them the answers'. Next time one of your employees presents you with a problem, resist the urge to give them the solution and ask them these 4 questions instead so they learn how to think critically 1. What solutions have you thought of so far?... 2. What other options are there? 3. Which one do you think is the best way forward? 4. What are the pros and cons of that option? See more

12.01.2022 Leading people is a tough gig so I love simple tools that make the job easier - ones that give you real aha moments. 11.01.2022 Have you listened to our podcast "Working for a challenging boss" yet? If not, check it out here!

10.01.2022 I love this quote! It's so true, especially in the current environment.

08.01.2022 A business thrives when people thrive. People thrive when they have direction and clarity and when they are led by a great boss!

07.01.2022 People trust people they can connect with and relate too. They trust those who they believe are showing up as the authentic version of themselves every day. Building the kind of trust that creates followers is much easier to do if you allow yourself to be vulnerable and show your team who you are. Check out our blog 'Trust breakers and builders' here https://buff.ly/2FNDM32

07.01.2022 Monday inspiration! Champions aren't born, they are made!

04.01.2022 Check out my short video on how to develop a plan for your team! As C.L. Harshman said "Strategy without leadership goes nowhere. Leadership without strategy has nowhere to go." What I have come to realise is that a lot of leaders get overwhelmed by the idea of creating a strategy. Think of it as coming up with a plan of attack that gives your team direction, somewhere to go. ... The thing is, you don't need to be a Top Tier Management Consultant to come up with a plan, it's much easier than you think, especially with the right tools in your hand. To get started with your plan, download our free tool here https://buff.ly/2G2OsLa

03.01.2022 We recently had a member of our Better Bosses community ask a great question. "A negative culture has been a problem with our team for a while. In your view, is the leader responsible for setting the tone for the team? And how does a leader go about shifting a counter-productive culture and encouraging collaboration in a fractured team?" So, I decided to record a podcast where I answer the question and speak more broadly about fixing a fractured team. ... Be sure to check it out and your share thoughts on this topic in the comments below! https://buff.ly/2Dro1Oc

03.01.2022 Our purpose is to help bosses become better leaders of people so they can bring out the best in themselves and others. To help you on this journey, I thought I'd share some of the lessons that I have learnt over the past 20 years in my career. Watch this short video to hear my lessons.

03.01.2022 Two cents Tuesday! Today's topic - 'Performance reviews'. I was reminded recently of how important performance reviews are to people. If you're due to give your team members a mid-year or full-year performance review soon, here are a few things to consider. 1. Be prepared... 2. Nothing should come as a surprise 3. Be present Share your tips in the comments below.

01.01.2022 There is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone thrive because you’ve allowed them to do so.
