The COVID-19 restrictions meant that Queenslanders had to reassess the way they live and how their neighbourhood design supports walkability and access to local parks and open spaces. Thanks to more than 20,000 responses from community members, local government and industry the Queensland Gov...ernment has incorporated five new assessment benchmarks in the Planning Regulation 2017. These benchmarks commence on 28 September 2020. Now more than ever, as we Unite and Recover from COVID-19, implementing these provisions will mean local neighbourhoods will have the fundamentals to support resilient, healthy and active communities. The assessment benchmarks are supported by a suite of tools including a revised model code for neighbourhood design, and technical guidance material to assist developers and local government achieve better neighbourhood design and walkable neighbourhoods. 13.01.2022 To support businesses during #COVID19, we made changes to the Planning Act including the introduction of temporary use licences (TULs), which are currently in place until 31 January 2021. A TUL allows a business to change their development approval conditions or other operating constraints during an applicable event (such as #COVID19). 10.01.2022 Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association was forced to close its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic because its premises didnt allow for social distancing. Changes to Queensland's planning laws have helped the business to adapt to the changing environment and thanks to a temporary use licence, it was was able to move to a much larger premise and start trading again.
