25.01.2022 Have to share this, my first flower from this ornamental Ginger, just not sure of the species

24.01.2022 Despite being a herbalist for a while now (okay nearly 20 years) I am still learning. The energetics of the individual and the herbs which suit is something I am finding more and more pertinent. Lets face it there are a lot of herbs for different conditions - so why choose 1 over the other?? Putting together a profile of the patient and 1 herb which may stand out is a terrific way to improve the treatment outcome. Lets have a look at Schisandra chinensis (Schisandra) a herb u...sed traditionally in Chinese medicine. It has the nickname of 5 Flavour Fruit. It is sour, warm and we use it to enhance the livers detoxification capacity. It actually protects the liver. It is,however far more than that. I have found patients tend to consume more alcohol and coffee due to stress. Amazingly Schisandra also assists with increasing resistance to physical and emotional stressors as well as being a terrific antioxidant and of course liver detoxifier. So if you know someone who is using artificial means to cope with their stress and thus putting a strain upon their liver and their nervous system, this may be the herb for them. Keep in mind any medication they are taking will also be broken down more efficiently, so best to get professional advice before consumption. How wonderful to be able to use a herb that has this capacity. Here, I have ground some of the berries ready to add to a detox, antioxidant teablend. The tree photo is from online, I havent managed to grow it yet See more

21.01.2022 Happy Valentines Day. I am not really a big fan, but as some of you know, I am a fan of baking. Am currently trialing more vegan baking and these are a great treat. A combination of almond meal, raw cacao powder, coconut oil, peanut butter, vanilla essence and lemon juice...... Have a wonderful day. Oops forgot to mention if you pop into the clinic today at Jacaranda Therapies, grab a free sample xx

19.01.2022 Have you ever considered making your own creams, ointments and natural remedies? Or have you ever learnt how to but forgotten? Here are some very enthusiastic first time manufacturers making a perfect moisturising cream on Sunday at the Plastic Free Day at Wandering Cooks :)

18.01.2022 Lime flowers (Tilia europae) - a beautiful tree in Germany, likes the cold. The flowers have a wonderful heady, honey like aroma and these are terrific in a tea for colds and flus. If you have a fever they might help you sweat it out and are often combined with Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Elder flowers (Sambucus nigra) and Yarrow (Achillea millefolium). Traditionally also useful in high blood pressure and nervous tension

17.01.2022 Am experimenting with more vegan baking and due to Anzac day coming up baked these delicious Anzac biscuits. They are from the Flannerys website albeit with a twist. Freshly grated Ginger.
