24.01.2022 In Preschool On Thursday the 17th of December, the children celebrated the birth of Jesus by performing the Nativity play for their parents. This is an exciting time for all the children as they have been practicing singing and preparing all the decorations, such as paper chains, lanterns, doves, threading decorations and lots of different colouring activities. The school readiness children have been practicing the nativity play and were looking forward to presenting the play... to their parents. A big congratulations to our two raffle winners, Felicity and Abigail. We hope you both enjoy your prizes. On Friday the 18th of December, we had our gift giving and children’s Christmas party. The children prepared lots of delicious food like fairy bread, cocktail frankfurts, fruit and even vegetables from our garden. The School Readiness children prepared the tables and set up all the plates, cups, serviettes and food onto the tables. A big thank you to Michelle (Charles’ mum) for making a beautiful cake for us to share. The children also enjoyed receiving and giving some presents to their educators and peers. Thank you all for making this a very enjoyable day. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed putting it on. Here are some photos from our 2020 Christmas service. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

24.01.2022 During Montessori, we started a new topic - Around the World. Every time we visit a new country, the children colour in that country's flag, write the name of the country and stamp their passports. So far, we have visited India, Greece, Macedonia and Italy. We thank those parents who volunteered their time to come in and teach the children about their homelands.

21.01.2022 On the 19th December we celebrated the birth of Jesus with a special Christmas Service for family and friends. These amazing 3, 4 and 5 year old children performed the birth of Jesus with song and music, and a child from School Readiness narrated.. The songs the children sang were; ‘Little Donkey’, ‘Bells are Ringing’, ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘The Angel band’, ‘He is the King of Kings’, ‘Happy Birthday to Jesus’, ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’. All of this with just one full g...roup practice and the. Congregation sang ‘Silent Night’. The next day the children prepared and celebrated Jesus birthday with gift giving and a fun party. How proud we all were! See more

18.01.2022 Look at what we've been up to this past week..... This week during group time, we introduced the children to theKnobbed Cylinder. The Knobbed Cylinders are a Montessori sensorial material, designed to assist children in making distinctions in their immediate environment. This material primarily engages the senses of touch and sight. Natalie allowed the children to identify the Knobbed Cylinders and pick up the material by gripping the block on both sides with two hands, to carry the material at waist height, parallel to the floor, to a work mat or table area and beginning with the largest cylinder. Natalie also showed the children how to take out each Knobbed Cylinder using their thumb and two forefingers (the pincer grip), by gently grabbing the handle.

17.01.2022 One parent wearing a traditional costume called a Sari, spoke about India. She showed the children temples, the Taj Mahal and they learnt about their national animals (Tiger), bird (Peacock) and flower (Lotus) of India. During the Montessori class, they coloured the Indian flag, Lotus flower and the map of India. In our school readiness program, the children completed a booklet about India, made origami Peacocks out of paper, used patty pans to make an Indian flag and crepe paper to make a tiger. They also made deepam using sand and brown paint. A deepam is used during a festival called Diwali and is lit to create good health and prosperity.

16.01.2022 In our School Readiness Program the children have now learnt all the sounds of the alphabet. We have started introducing the children to blended sounds like at, et, it, ot and ut. We have been placing a sound in front of these blended sounds and learning how to sound out simple words like cat, sit, pot and jet. Another topic, we covered during School Readiness was Braveheart. As a group, we sat down and watched an interactive program on the laptop with the teacher. This program spoke to us about feeling safe, ‘yes’ and ‘no’ feelings, private parts and secrets. We learnt Ditto’s 3 rules: Rule 1: We all have the right to feel safe with people Rule 2: It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure Rule 3: Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it

15.01.2022 These past weeks at school.... School Readiness Program: We continued the sounds ‘d’ and ‘v’. Each day, the children can name many words beginning with these sounds. They are becoming very confident with all their school readiness activities especially their names, sounds and dates. The children have also completed their Bravehearts booklets. Some of the activities the children have enjoyed on the school readiness shelf have been the life cycle of the butterfly puzzle, and ta...ngram puzzles. While completing the life cycle of the butterfly puzzle, we have been discussing the different stages in the life of the butterfly. A tangram is an ancient Chinese puzzle with 7 specific pieces that fit together perfectly to form a square. It usually consists of two large triangles, one medium triangle, two small triangles, a square, and a parallelogram. The children enjoy using the tangrams and making silhouettes of animals and objects. Indoor Play: The children have been playing doctors and nurses on the stage. After learning about these community helpers, the children asked for the doctors set. We placed them on the stage with some dollies, blankets and pillows and allowed the children to explore and experiment with the doctors set. The children checked the dollies heart, ears and blood pressure and decided to give them needles to feel better. It was a great experience for the children and to see how much they had learnt from ellipse time during Montessori class. Thank you children, for taking such good care of our dollies, they are all feeling a lot better now. Outdoor Play: Once the rocks were dry, the children had a chance to place their rock into the garden. The children were allowed to choose where their rock went. Every time we go into the playground, the children like looking for their rocks in the garden and have been showing their families during drop off and pick up times. During transition times, the children are playing five grey elephants. These games are great for children to develop gross motor skills, learning to wait for their turn, imaginative play, sense of belonging and self-discipline. Some of the games we play are farmer in the dell, five jellyfish and sandy boy/girl. Church: We continued with some of the miracles Jesus performed. We were reminded of the love people have for him and how they came to know and believe he was the son of God and how he did amazing miracles. See more

15.01.2022 In Preschool, on New Year's Eve, we also had our annual dress up day. Leading up to this day, the children were very excited and were telling each other what they were going to wear. When the children arrived, they couldn’t wait to show their peers and educators their costumes and what they were. Some children dressed up as their favourite superheroes like Captain America and Superman, a race car driver, Woody from Toy Story, a pirate and Chase from Paw Patrol.

12.01.2022 In Kinderhaus throughout the week, we explored different forms of painting enhancing each child’s hand-eye coordination, colour recognition and pincer grasp. At the start of the week, we did a finger-painting activity. The aim was to create a caterpillar using the finger dot technique. Children were able to choose which colour they would like to use. The educator then helped them to paint the tip of their finger and press it on the paper in a specific order to make the body... of the caterpillar. The children were very proud of their artworks when they saw the final result. As another craft activity, the children took part in sponge painting. This activity enhanced each child’s pincer grasp skills, as they had to hold a peg which was attached to the sponge. They were offered 3 different colours of paint and had the opportunity to choose which colour they wanted to use. Each child pressed the sponge against the paper and were able to use their imagination to create any desired design. They really enjoyed seeing each other’s work and discussing what they had painted. - WOW look at my circles! and I painted a dinosaur! were many of the dialogue’s children had. With our Balls craft activity, there were four different types of balls. Two balls had a string all around them going in different directions creating a textured surface. The other two balls had a smooth surface. Each ball was in a specific coloured paint (Pink, orange, brown and green). The first stage involved the child choosing which colour they would like to use. The ball was then placed on top of the paper which was inside a tray. Using their hand-eye coordination they turned the tray in different directions, making the ball roll. The children were very amazed by the different lines the balls made. How is the ball painting? Was the most common question among all children which then lead to a group discussion. See more

07.01.2022 On the 31st of December, we had dress up day in order to celebrate the entrance to a new year. The children were very proud of their costumes which lead to them enhancing their social skills by approaching each other in order to talk about what they were dressed up as. It was a terrific day full of fun and discussions to give the children a deeper understanding of the occasion.

07.01.2022 In Preschool these past weeks, we have been working hard in the Montessori classroom. Some of the activities we have been enjoying are number rods, pink tower and knobbed cylinders. When using the Number Rods, a child gains an understanding of numbers and their sequence. Each rod represents a different number and the children need to count each individual section to know what the number is. Pink tower develops a child’s fine motor coordination and helps prepare the child for ...abstract mathematical concepts. Lastly, the Knobbed cylinders help develop a child’s pincer grip as well as engaging the senses of touch and sight. In our School Readiness Program, we decided to make playdough. The children helped to pour and measure the ingredients and once all the dry ingredients were in the bowl, the educator carefully poured the hot water into the bowl. A child squeezed the red food colouring into the mixture and the children each had a turn to mix all the ingredients together. While mixing, the playdough turned pink and the children were very excited to see this happen. Once the mixture had cooled down, we rolled the playdough into balls ready to be used in the classroom and indoor play. During outdoor play and as a group, we played with the parachute. First, we practiced how to lift it up and down together. We played two games with the parachute. We placed a ball into the middle of the parachute and had to make sure it didn’t fall off; the children had a fantastic time trying to keep the ball on the parachute. The second game, the educator called out two names and when the parachute was lifted up, the two children had to swap places. We enjoyed working as a team and are looking forward to playing with the parachute again. We enjoyed many other activities in the playground. We also found a cicada shell near the tree. The children were very interested in the shell and we had a discussion about how the cicada breaks out of its old skin when it becomes too big for it, and it then leaves its old shell behind. We carefully took the cicada shell off the fence and placed it onto our science table in the Montessori classroom. See more

03.01.2022 This past week in Montessori class we have been continuing our topic of Around the World. We have travelled to many countries and the children have been filling out their passports along the way. Our next stops were Spain, Taiwan, Lebanon and China. The children have been enjoying learning about where everyone is from. Again, a big thank you to all the parents who have been teaching us about their homelands.

01.01.2022 Also in Kinderhaus, the children had lots of fun by being involved in various types of developmental activities which included, construction, puzzles, free play on the sand pit and bridge walking. Blocks help the children develop sharing skills while cooperating with others, and it increases their attention span. Using their fine motor skills, each child built a tower trying to make it as tall as possible without it falling down. By the end they were very pleased of the results and how the tower kept expanding. Puzzles are a crucial part of a child’s development as it advances their cognitive, motor and language skills through play. They had very contented looks on their faces when they were able to successfully fit the right piece in the designated place.

01.01.2022 In the garden, children gain mastery of many physical skills. For example, carrying and using gardening tools help to develop body management and object control skills, whole hand grasp, loco motor skills and pincer grasp. They were so thrilled helping out the educator to fill up all the pots with some potting mix. The educator asked calmly, Can you please put more soil in this pot? and all children replied happily, Ok!. This sort of work is believed to help children stay focused and calm in other activities.
