21.01.2022 Who gets confused about which ingredients are best for which skin type? What even is a BHA? Why does Salicylic Acid sometimes dry my skin? Well, if youre interested keep reading Over the years there has been a lot of hype about AHAs and BHAs, and for good reason. These ingredients work wonders to gently exfoliate (depending on the strength of the acid) and unclog pores. AHAs are a water soluble acid and assist in exfoliating dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. ...AHAs such as glycolic acid and lactic acid (the more gentle of the two) are great for most skin types. We recommend AHAs to assist in ungluing your dead cells to exfoliate and reveal beautiful, new cells to the upper layers of your skin. Glycolic acid is also a humectant which helps keep the skin moist meaning ita great for dry skin too! BHAs are an oil soluble acid, meaning they can break through our more oily skin types. BHAs such a salicylic acid penetrate the pores and unclog them. BHAs also help fight bacteria and reduce inflammation so are great for our acne clients. Remember, products with these ingredients are not made equally and differ in strengths in different brands. We always recommend you use a cosmeceuticals brand prescribed to your skin type. Supermarket brands just dont cut it when it comes to active ingredients. They usually dont penetrate any further than the very outer layers of the skin so usually do next to nothing for our active layers of the skin. It helps improve issues like acne, acne scars, dark spots, sun damage, and wrinkles. It is one of my FAVORITE treatment to perform on clients & to receive on myself too! But there are a lot of myths about Chemical Peels, so lets DEBUNK some! 1 Will a Chemical Peels burn my face off?... I honestly blame the wording here LOL. Peels are corrective treatments, so there is some sensation and tingling felt during the process. But rest assured, your face will be fine :) Of course there are post peel effects like sensitivity, redness, and flaking but it is all completely normal. Some people dont even experience any effects! 2 Is One Chemical Peel enough? As much as I would love to say this is true, it unfortunately is not. Just like one workout at the gym wont make you super ripped, one chemical peel will not fix all of your skin troubles. Peels are not a one time fling! They require commitment and patience. Its like a relationship with your skin. The best way to do a peel is to book a series of peels , 4-6 peels performed at a specific time frame from one another. Usually about 3 weeks apart. Once you get your skin where you want it to be you can decide to stop getting peels OR just adjust your peel schedule. (Hint: This is the better choice) I promise you that once you see the difference in your skin, you wont want to stop entirely. A peel 1x per month is a great option to follow after completing a series. 3 Can Chemical Peels can be done at home? A. BIG. FAT. NO. Ive seen and heard cases where someone would buy a chemical peel online and perform it at home. Their skin suffered intense chemical burns and caused some serious damage. Many times people resort to this to save money. Im going to be honest here , the possible harsh damage to your skin will cost you more than just your money. So please friends, do not DIY a chemical peel at home, it is not worth the risk. Make sure you are seeing a trained, licensed professional
