21.01.2022 3 Tips to avoid RUNNING injuries Many people have taken up running or increased their running volume in recent times. Here are some helpful points to avoid pain and problem. 1.AVOID running the same path or route. For example don't run the same direction around the athletics track over and over. Although it doesn't seem like much at the time, the inclination/angle of the track/road/footpath means that you load the legs asymmetrically and over strain tissues. Instead run diff...erent routes and on different surfaces to vary stress on the feet and knees. 2. BREATHE. Think about initiating breathing from your belly, and not your upper chest. Also, inhalation and exhalation are usually triggered by ground strike. To maintain symmetry, strive for an odd-numbered breathing pattern with more strides of exhales than inhales. i.e., a 5-foot strike breathing cycle would be: In, In, Out, Out, Out. 3. SHOES. Wear what is comfortable and what you are used to. There should be no wearing in period with running shoes, they should feel comfy straight away. Don't go out and buy a barefoot running shoe if you've never worn them before. Shoes should be replaced every 500-800km

07.01.2022 I understand you are concerned and worried about the coronavirus but please be assured that strict cleaning and sanitary procedures are in place in the clinic room. I've undertaken infection control training in COVID 19 and follow the guidelines set out in the World Chiropractic Federation and the Australian Chiropractors Association regarding patient and doctor hygiene. This is how I keep you and your family safe: -Hands are washed before each new patient. -Tables and head r...est is sanitised between each patient. -Instruments are sanitised after every use. -Surfaces and door knobs are sanitised after each patient. Face masks do not stop you from getting the virus and are currently only useful if you have the disease to prevent spread. However if you'd feel more comfortable if I wore a mask please let me know upon arrival or beforehand and I will wear one. If you have any of these symptoms: Fever Cough Sore throat Shortness of breath AND have travelled internationally in the 14 days before getting sick OR had contact with someone diagnosed with or suspected of having coronavirus in the 14 days before getting sick STOP PLEASE Notify the clinic. You will be provided information on what to do next. How you can protect yourself from coronavirus As COVID-19 is a novel virus, there is no vaccine currently available. However, practising good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene provides the best defence against viral infections. These include: -Washing your hands frequently with soap and water, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet. -Covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, immediately disposing of tissues and using alcohol-based hand sanitiser. -If unwell, seek immediate guidance from a medical professional. You may be advised to isolate yourself from the general population for up to 14 days to stop viral spread. The onset and severity of infection in response to viral pathogens is greatly influenced by the virulence of the pathogen and the host’s immune defences. While little can be done regarding the virulence of COVID-19, improving an individual’s immune response is the most effective strategy to protect against any pathogen. 01.01.2022 How good is it to be back in the gym! But leave your ego at the door. It's been 3 months off and although you may have been "keeping up your fitness" with running or sit ups you've had relative deconditioning away from movements and equipment you're used to at the gym. To avoid overload and injury: -Focus on getting moving again with correct technique. -Take it slow. Gradually increase your weight and reps. You wont be putting up the same numbers as before. ... - Have rest days. - Get enough sleep. - Don't compare yourself to others. People have had access to different equipment and training programs so everyone is returning at different fitness levels. - Make sure your mobility work is kept up and seek treatment if you need.
