25.01.2022 Navigating life as a new parent during this time is uniquely challenging. For information on how new parents can protect their mental health and wellbeing during this time, head to bb.org.au/2ENJIZA.

24.01.2022 I have always enjoyed hiking around Northern Sydney where I live. It’s a wonderful way to stay well, and I get to take in nature’s beauty. So, naturally Coastrek was something I wanted to participate in. Not only is it for a great cause, but I also get to challenge myself and lead my team to do the same. It’s about having fun together and enjoying the journey, no matter how hard it gets. The accomplishment of participating in a wonderful event for a great cause and believing... in myself and my team has been so rewarding. Beyond Blue works to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities affected by anxiety, depression and suicide, which is so important, especially over this past year. I am so proud to be raising funds and awareness through my Coastrek journey. I am really looking forward to my third Coastrek today, to share my experience and inspire my team to have fun and enjoy every minute of it! Jacqui (left) is the team captain of one of our Sydney Coastrek Series 100 Super Fundraiser teams, The Digital Doers, who have raised $4,523 for Beyond Blue's 24/7 Support Service. We'd like to thank all our amazing trekkers walking for mental health today. Stay tuned to our Instagram Stories for more of today’s action! 20.01.2022 Australia Post and Beyond Blue have formed a national partnership to help people in Australia stay mentally well and build stronger, more connected communities. Now more than ever, maintaining connections to others and the world around us is important for our mental and physical wellbeing, because when we connect we feel better. To mark the beginning of Mental Health Month, Australia Post has created a special stamp release titled, ‘When we connect, we feel better’ launching today. Bought in a pack of two, the sender simply uses one stamp to post the letter and includes the second in the envelope so the recipient can easily write back. The specially marked stamps are available in store at participating Post Offices and online. To learn more about our work with Australia Post, visit auspost.com/mentalhealth.

19.01.2022 In coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day, the key message for this year's R U OK Day is 'There's more to say after R U OK?' Today and on any other day, you can keep the conversation going when you check in with friends or loved ones. By knowing what to say, you can help someone feel supported and encourage them to access appropriate help, which can make a really positive difference to their life. You don't have to be an expert to keep the conversation going. Visit ruok.org.au/how-to-ask to learn about some simple steps you can follow that could change someone's life.

19.01.2022 "Actually reaching out to people helps. So many people have stepped up and helped me along the way. And I think if I had known that at 19, I think that experience would have been very different. And I can see that reaching out is both a good idea and a necessity in order to be well." This post contains video content that might be distressing for some viewers. It features a real story about suicide. Each day in Australia, more than eight people die by suicide. Today, we’re sha...ring the story of Natalie, who found a way through. When Natalie first experienced depression and suicidal thoughts at the age of 15, she didn’t understand what was happening to her and felt overwhelmed and lonely. Getting support helped her understand her depression and move through these suicidal thoughts and feelings. For those of us worried someone we know is thinking about suicide, Natalie's story reminds us that asking them about it directly could be a life-changing conversation. If someone tells you they’re thinking about suicide, just be there for them: listen to them without judgement, validate how they’re feeling, reassure them that the pain can pass, and connect them with support. You don’t have to be an expert to make a difference learn more at bb.org.au/3kdFCIH. If you’re feeling distressed or overwhelmed, our mental health professionals are available 24/7 on 1300 22 4636 or at beyondblue.org.au/getsupport for email (responses within 24 hours). For immediate support call Lifeline on 13 11 14 and in an emergency, always call triple zero (000).

19.01.2022 This year, almost 3,000 Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne Coastrekkers walked for mental health, and today we celebrate their incredible fundraising total of $1,271,170. Today, we're sharing the Coastrek journey of Tessa and her team 'Just Be Cause', who walked 30 kilometres from Rainbow Beach to Double Island Point and back. She told us why walking for mental health was so important to her and her team. I was diagnosed with a mental health issue at 18 years old. It was a condi...tion no one spoke about and there was a huge amount of stigma that came with it. I have been on medication for much of the time since. I now have a 12 year-old daughter and 14 year-old son, and we have an agreement in our house to be honest when we are having a ‘flat’ day. It took me until my 40’s to be honest with myself and others that this is with me for life. It took a huge weight off my shoulders. Leading up to the Coastrek event, a young man I know took his own life. I kept him and his parents in my thoughts that day as we walked. It wasn’t just for me it was for all those who struggle daily, and for all those who have struggled during COVID. Just Be Cause reflected on some of their Coastrek highlights: Just walking and talking. The laughs, the time away from our daily lives, girl time! Sitting together after our walk and laughing at each other’s silly aches and pains. Meeting interesting people along the way, including a young man from Dubbo who walked with us from Double Island Point back to Rainbow Beach and had dinner with us! And, of course, we met the Editor of the local paper. Beyond Blue and the Coastrek team at Wild Women On Top say thank you to every Coastrekker who has walked for mental health in 2020. We have been honoured to share in your stories and have been inspired by your resilience. Your support has made an immense positive impact on the lives of people living in Australia affected by anxiety, depression and suicide. To register your interest for Coastrek 2021, you can visit coastrek.com.au. We hope to see you next year!

18.01.2022 "I want you to live. I want you to know that you're not alone and that you being here is going to be so much more powerful than you not being here. Many of us care about you and we love you. Even if we haven't met you yet." This post contains video content that might be distressing for some viewers. It features a real story about suicide. Each day in Australia, more than eight people die by suicide. Today, we’re sharing the story of Leilani, who found a way through. Leilani f...irst experienced suicidal thoughts and feelings when she was just ten. Asking for help was a big turning point and she uses her experience to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people find a way through suicidal thoughts and feel strong again. For those of us worried someone we know is thinking about suicide, Leilani's story reminds us that asking them about it directly could be a life-changing conversation. 14.01.2022 We’re so proud to be even a small part of the bigger picture and have loved every part of this journey from the fundraising, to raising awareness for mental health, to training with the team. We’ve had a whole lot of fun and made memories. Team Nobility are just one of so many teams that have challenged themselves in participating in our first-ever Virtual Coastrek for Sydney and Brisbane. Raising over $1.1 million for the Beyond Blue Support Service, our Coastrek partic...ipants have also helped raise awareness around mental health in Australia encouraging people to get active, start conversations and seek support when they need it. If this year has taught us anything, it’s that we’re all in this together. Congratulations to our Sydney and Brisbane teams for a fun and successful Event Day, and all the best to our Melbourne Coastrekkers who will bring us home to celebrate Final Tally Day later this year. From the Coastrek team at Beyond Blue and Wild Women On Top, we'd like to thank all of our Coastrekkers for participating in Virtual Coastrek this year. 13.01.2022 It's normal and appropriate if you’re feeling unsettled during this strange time. Our online forums are a safe place for our communities to discuss personal reflections, concerns, questions and comments around a certain subject or theme. We've published a selection of quotes from our online forums that demonstrate how our community members have found comfort during unsettling times, and specifically from our forums themselves. 12.01.2022 This week is Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Awareness (PANDA) Week. It’s a time to speak openly and honestly about the unique challenges that new and expecting parents face, whether they're in your home, community or workplace. During pregnancy and the year following the birth of a baby, parents are at a heightened risk of experiencing a mental health condition. One in six mothers will experience postnatal depression, and one in ten fathers will be similarly affected. This ...year has been particularly challenging for new and expecting parents around Australia, with fluctuating restrictions impacting their experience and limiting face-to-face support. We’re encouraging all parents and families to learn more and reach out for any level of support they need. For more information, check out our range of resources below including our mental health checklists for mums and dads.

10.01.2022 We’ve launched a free online training course to give business advisers the confidence and tools to support the mental health of small business owners. ‘Mental wellbeing: support yourself and small businesses’ is a free, four-part online learning course that ensures you understand mental health, you can recognise stressors within the workplace and are able to check in and support yourself and others. It can be hard to know how to help small business owners with their mental he...alth and wellbeing, while also looking after yourself. Our free online training course is designed to help improve the mental health literacy of small business advisers, who are often the first to notice that small business owners are finding it hard to cope. The course is now available at bb.org.au/3cErq9s, and was made possible through the in-kind production support and expertise of our Supporting Partner Xero.

08.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of NAIDOC Week 2020! It's a significant time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and achievements. It's also an opportunity for everyone in Australia to reflect on and make a priority the social and emotional wellbeing of Indigenous Australians. Whilst the week is usually celebrated in July, the organising committee made the unprecedented decision to move the official NAIDOC week celebrations to November, to pro...tect elders and those in the community with chronic health issues, from the impacts of COVID. This year’s theme - Always Was, Always Will Be - recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Beyond Blue, like many other organisations, is proud to celebrate NAIDOC Week in both July and November. This year, things look a little different but we’re finding new ways to connect and reflect with a range of COVID-safe activities including a virtual film viewing party, hearing from virtual guest speakers and attending online cultural events. To learn more about upcoming NAIDOC events, visit bit.ly/38gSSKk. How are you celebrating #NAIDOC2020? #alwayswasalwayswillbe

08.01.2022 "I’ve learned a lot about my resilience and my ability to figure out alternatives when things don't go as planned, or when the person I care for and I can't access the services we need. Here, Jessica shares her thoughts on what she has learned during her period of isolation while being a carer, how she believes the easing of restrictions will affect her, and what she hopes life after the COVID-19 outbreak will look like. 02.01.2022 Children tend to adapt well to change. However, during this challenging time, it’s worth paying extra attention to your child’s mental health and wellbeing. One way to go about this involves mindfulness, as studies show its practice in young people improves self-awareness and the ability to regulate emotions. For more information on how to support children's wellbeing with mindfulness, head to bb.org.au/3hgOdce.

02.01.2022 For the last fifteen years, PANDA has designated a week in November to raise awareness about perinatal mental health conditions, and to reduce stigma so those affected can seek help. This year, it's more important than ever that expecting and new parents who are finding it difficult to cope know they’re not alone. It's especially important that when these parents and families reach out for help, they know that support is there from the people around them. This week, PANDA is sharing stories and crucial information to show that perinatal mental health conditions are complex and every person’s experience is different. We're encouraging all parents and families to learn more and reach out for any level of support they need.
