24.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series Family freedom is something that I value most out of starting my business. When I first told my husband "I'm going to start a dreadlocks business." His reply was... "Is that a thing?" my reply being "Yes, I paid someone and someone will pay me."... Me being me decided in that moment that I would make sure that happened. He is astounded at what extras me stepping into this and taking it on has given us.
21.01.2022 Here is some amazing studio inspiration! I watch these amazing ladies and the really beautiful dreadlocks they create. I have to admit, I'm slightly jealous of this amazing place. I think I could live there!
21.01.2022 Dreadlocks are a journey that improves with time. Just like us in business. We take action and learn. This is why I am consolidating this page with Authentic Dreads. Everything in the one place that you love.
21.01.2022 There is so much more to learn from how I have built and run Authentic Dreads with marketing and social media. Learning from others is important in business and what works. Splitting focus where I can give more in one place is much better for people wanting to learn.
20.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series When I got used to being a mum of a young one again I was ready to plan and grow. I changed my business name to Authentic Dreads and started to really explore marketing and business. I worked with a brilliant company on branding, marketing and social media and was trained in strategy. I paid $1600 for all this (now I look back and cringe) but I look back in a good position and am grateful for the lessons. I just know now I could have sav...ed a bit of money. But this has been the lesson for me in business expenses and if you do things smart, it can be minimised. It took me 18 months of learnings and lacking motivation to really implement these strategies and the new brand, then it was GAME ON! The kids were getting older and my independence was increasing all the time. I made a plan of growth that came to fruition 1 year before I planned.
20.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series As you do in life you have more desires than just building a business. In 2014 when I had more independence than I had in years I had my second child Marlia. I love her, but had forgotten how much a new born needs. The beautiful thing about being established before she cam along was when I wanted to go back to work slowly, people were waiting for me. I dreaded 2-4hrs a week starting from when she was 3 weeks old and it was amazing to be ...able to make this decision. I loved my work and clients so much, I did not want to stop fully. Of course, business slowed, but it was my choice and that felt good.
18.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series In 2016 I was asked by someone if I would train them. I did contemplate this and felt I was ready. My business was going well and I was enjoying the rewards and I wanted others to have it. I trained her over 3 days. She picked up the technique well, was a little tired, but keen to keep working at it. ... Sadly, she did not end up starting a business at all or doing dreadlocks. I was quite discouraged and did not want to train people. Over the next few years, I realised that if I wanted to train successful people I needed more than just technique. There needed to be alignment to purpose, a helpful mindset and BUSINESS SETUP within the training. Just like this girl, I was good at the technique, but the real struggles and failures had been in motivation, mindset and business.
18.01.2022 Having connections is one of the best aspects of having a dreadlocks business.
16.01.2022 Life is pretty chill when you have your business cracking.
14.01.2022 The simpler we keep things the more time we have to enjoy the journey. This will be the last direct post here in a while. I will share from Authentic Dreads from now on. I can't wait to connect with you all.
14.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series Then I created the opportunity to move to the Sunshine Coast and start doing dreadlocks. Where I lived in central Qld was quite limited on people wanting dreadlocks So I built the courage to initiate people to do their dreads. Making agreements that I would keep working on them until they were quality and held together well. ... I was lucky enough that people gave me their trust so I could learn. Also to create connections in a new area with some amazing people. I worked when I was able and wanted to. Slowly but surely, my skill built along with my confidence. Authentically Me Dreadlocks was born.
13.01.2022 To all who have decided and acted on getting dreadlocks, did you experience a type of freedom. For me, the natural next step was to help others have not only dreadlocks, but the evolvement in their authentic and courageous self. What is your natural next step?
13.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series Why start a dreadlocks business? This is WHY! When you are very specific on the dreadlocks you want and you end up with something that does not look anything like it. Even tho you were told you would. Only to be told after she didn't think I had enough hair for them so I ended up with ones that would have been thicker than any I have ever installed. ... This is the point I started to realise the dreadlocks industry needed to have quality and lots more information and honesty with clients. I started brushing them out to reinstall myself.
12.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series Over 2 months I played with my 9 month Indiah and slowly and learningly (this is now a word) brushed out and split my dreadlocks one into 2-3. Turning 27 into 57 (I already had 5 I installed and they were great). Youtube was my friend and I experimented with many techniques seeing what each did with the dreadlocks. Some I had to re do as it did not work in my hair. ... The end result was my experiential knowing increased quickly as one thing I have is patience and persistence. I also realised how easy this would be to have with a young family. Things were starting to open up to a good life change.
09.01.2022 This is an important part I ask people to take into their business if you want to be trained Authentic Dreads. If you do this, beyond anything else, you will be successful and happy. I'm not saying you won't be challenged, but life is more connected and successful.
09.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series This beautiful woman was the first person I did a full head of dreadlocks on. Bree and she is my cousin among many other beautiful things. Building the confidence in technique with people close to you is a benefit. ... Having the independence and freedom I gained with money and my mind from starting, even a small business is worth every failure I have had in the past 9 years of being a mum in business.
09.01.2022 Just so you know the ins and outs of the day to day, here some insights. So many good aspects of my life skills are built through owning my own business.
08.01.2022 My intention is to give everyone the best information and help that I can. This is why I am asking you to come across to Authentic Dreads, because there is so m...uch more there. Running 2 pages is splitting my time and I can not give you the best here. Please come across and get the best of everything so I can support you on your business journey.
08.01.2022 Learning dreadlocks requires persistence and diving in at the deep end. Kristal is a prime example! She has worked for me at Authentic Dreads for 2 years (WOW time fly's). She picked it up quick and then I threw her in. Fly free and I'll be there to support. I'm not someone who prevents mistakes, I'd prefer you to hit your limits and learn, then I will help guide through to the best result. ... Kristal can now deal with pretty much any dreads that walk through the door with confidence. I have watch in amazement as she has hit some pretty big things personally and with dreadlocks and instead of shying away, she keeps going. She is on a mission. Being there to support her when she needs has been just amazing for me. I am so grateful she has trusted me to teach her and be so connected beyond the dreadlocks. Whatever anyones limits are, if you're aligned with what you want to create and have the grit to stay with it, you will come out more skilled and a stronger person.
01.01.2022 Dreadlocks Business Journey: A Series And I digress to 2008 with the first ever set of dreadlocks I backcombed and waxed into this beautiful mans head. I AM SO SORRY!... Nathan, I love you and you are beautiful and amazing, but this taught me how bad wax was. Especially in a converters hair. And I am sorry to Jac who had to change your dirty pillow case. Learning is not always about doing it right, some of the best lessons come when we stuff things up. So now I know, and I will pass the knowledge to you. If you like people... DON'T EVER USE WAX! Especially if they are one of your best friends.
