24.01.2022 Finally, as predicted on this Facebook page, even an ultra conservative Federal government has to step in now and recognise the overriding importance of the national interest reflected in the Murray-Darling River Management Plan. "Unconstitutional", as some people claim? Change the Constitution! Abandon the federal structure altogether, the sooner the better. Millions of dollars in funding for regional water projects are being withheld by the Commonwealth because the Berejiklian government has failed to complete basic Murray-Darling river management plans more than six months after they were due, according the SMH leader article written by Kylar Loussikan.

21.01.2022 George Megalogenis discussed the issue of the Ruby Princess, not stopped by the Commonwealth, allowing 2700 passengers to disembark, not tested at all for the Coronavirus. How could this happen? Where was "Border Security"? Why did the State government not step in? Much of the rest of the article questions the role of federation. Will the states go their own way? Will the federal government take over through its new "National Cabinet"? George believes that "a new federal compact will have to be struck". But is that the right step? Will this episode not call for the REPLACEMENT of Federation altogether with an effective unitary Government?

18.01.2022 Peter Hartcher points out that the federal government is not imposing its national power on the states as a result of which the nation is "fractured" in dealing with what has become a major national problem - comparable to war! Although a "National Cabinet" has been formed for the particular purpose of dealing with the Coronavirus invasion clearly there are serious differences about how to deal best with this dilemma the result being that several mixed messages are being comm...unicated. The Premiers and medical opinion favour a quick complete national lockdown. The Prime Minister favours a much more nuanced solution it seems considering the economic repercussions, e.g. unemployment, renters, small business, the banks etc. The federal structure of government appears to be a hindrance to effective action at this point, for the moment at least. 07.01.2022 This crisis reinforces the urgent need to replace federation with a decentralised unitary system with much greater emphasis on local government that could be called a mezzanine level of regional organisation of local councils. The ROCs system could be a forerunner of that. One can read about that in the book by a group of enthusiasts published by BookPod, Melbourne at the end of 2014: Beyond Federation. The current crisis could well be the tipping point of a much more widespread awareness of the need for change as well the need for a new Australia Constitution altogether.
