25.01.2022 This is #FoyerGoals. Stable housing, education and support give young people the opportunity to realise their passions, and give back to their community. Amazing Brea, thanks for being an inspiration to other Foyer students and the Shepparton community.

The money was raised as part of Godolphin’s Winning Line Challenge with their staff worldwide a total of 45,544km (number kms connecting their locations across ) whilst raising funds for charities that help vulnerable people affected by COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks Godolphin Australia for your support of our work and the Seymour community. Andy Makiv - Godolphin Victorian General Manager, & Celia Adams - BeyondHousing CEO.

23.01.2022 Jayme has been homeless for five months. He just celebrated his 21st birthday, a night where he slept in his car at a service centre and read 2 messages from real estate agents saying another of his 100+ rental applications has been unsuccessful. Jayme is now staying in crisis accommodation, assisted by BeyondHousing, until he is in a safe and secure home of his own. As part of #HW2020, Shepparton News reporter Charmayne Allison spent time with Jayme, listening to his story and gaining an insight into this local crisis. Listen to Jayme's experiences here: https://bit.ly/2XAeTxH by Rodney Braithwaite for Shepparton News

22.01.2022 79% of regional Victorians back the push for social housing to end homelessness during the COVID recovery. In a poll conducted on behalf of Victorian Council of Social Service,, more than 3/4 regional Victorians surveyed want the State Govt to build significantly more public and community housing as part of its response to COVID-19. And whopping 83% of all Victorians also believe the VIC Govt should be doing more to end homelessness.... Regional Victorians want this done. The Victorian people want action and support is rock solid in all demographics, regions and age groups, and right across the political divide. #HW2020 See who supports action here: https://vcoss.org.au//2/08/victorians-back-social-housing/

21.01.2022 This is a time when the importance of having a safe home has never been clearer. The COVID-19 second wave will see many renters across our catchment join the numbers of people who have already lost their jobs, have reduced shifts or moved to Centrelink payments and are facing severe financial hardship because of the pandemic. The VIC Govt announcement extending the rental eviction moratorium along with an increase to the rent subsidy, is a smart move to help renters safely ge...t through this second wave. If you're a renter we can help you to stay in your home during this continued period of uncertainty. We encourage anyone experiencing difficulty paying their rent to: Enter rental subsidy arrangements with their landlords and to continue to meet all their tenancy obligations where possible. Access our private rental support services. Contact us 1800 825 955, [email protected] or message this page . Find out more on private rental support via our website https://bit.ly/31g98Yj See more

19.01.2022 You don't need to be a maths wiz to know that the numbers of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, added to the shortfall of social housing, plus the lack of affordable private rental is equal to a crisis in the region. Here is the basic sum to end homelessness in Victoria. One x vision + Two x social housing + Wrap around support services... = #endhomelessness See more

18.01.2022 The US election might be dominating discussion right now, but the voting we are keeping an eye on is in the Council to Homeless Persons Victorian Homelessness Media Awards. Regional journalists Josiah Shala and Charmayne Allison are both nominated in the Best Suburban/Regional Journalist category for their stories on people experiencing homelessness in our catchment. https://chp.org.au/vhma-2020-finalists-best-suburban-regio/ Homelessness is a diverse and complex issue. Congratulations to the finalists and thank you for your respectful portrayal of people experiencing homelessness. #VHMA2020

18.01.2022 for the best outcome for in tonight's vote. We are ready to act and provide more safe, secure and affordable homes here in Wangaratta. As part of our partnership with the Peter & Lyndy White Foundation, we plan to construct energy efficient, architecturally designed homes that complement the location, are affordable to rent as well as live in and importantly, provide stable housing for local people.

17.01.2022 Today we celebrated #WearitPurpleDay2020. Every day we are focusing on creating safe spaces for LGBTIQ+ young people in our community, our employees, clients and renters, ensuring they are seen and supported. LGBTIQ+ people are more likely to experience homelessness at a younger age and this is driven by family rejection, heightening their vulnerability. LGBTIQ young people are also at least twice as likely as heterosexuals to experience homelessness and we recognise that #WeAreTheChange that will make a difference to LGBTIQ+ young people’s lives when they need support to find safe, secure housing. To everyone under the LGBTIQ+ rainbow, this is your day! Happy Wear It Purple Day

16.01.2022 Crush it, Shepparton. Test and quarantine. You can do it. - Brett Sutton (Victoria CHO). Well, #Shepparton you have all done an incredible job and shown you are a community that cares doing the right thing, getting tested. Don’t know about you, but we could not feel prouder. We've been doing our bit to ensure our community was kept safe, including checking and connecting with clients and tenants to make sure they can access testing sites, and have an adequate supply of health protections like masks and hand sanitiser. See Matt Sharp - GV Health Chief Executive update for Shepparton outbreak - importantly two additional locations of concern (as of yesterday).

15.01.2022 Our housing market has been allowed to become too expensive and our lowest incomes have been allowed to stay too low. #HW2020 #BuildSocialHousing

12.01.2022 A 2017 report into LGBTIQ+ young people experiencing homelessness found that fears of, or actual negative experiences suffered in homelessness services are creating barriers to help-seeking. We've taken action to ensure all our homelessness and housing services are LGBTIQ+ inclusive. Here's what we've done: Talked with LGBTIQ+ young people from our community and learned more about their experiences with housing, homelessness, what it was like working with us and how we can... improve access to our services Become part of the LGBTIQ+ Regional Community Of Practice Staff training on diversity and gender inclusive practices as a mandatory part of being employed with us Re-developed our Diversity policy based on feedback and engagement with our community This is what comes next: Achieve the Rainbow Tick standards #wearitpurple See more

12.01.2022 Did you know?... LGBTIQA+ young people are at least twice as likely as heterosexuals to experience homelessness. Discrimination, violence & family rejection are driving LGBTIQA+ homelessness. Wear it Purple Day is an annual LGBTIQA+ awareness day especially for young Australians. Supporters wear purple to celebrate diversity and young people from the LGBTIQA+ community. We're showing out support by wearing purple on 28 August. #wearitpurple

08.01.2022 Wear it Purple is about showing your support for LGBTIQ+ young people. LGBTIQ+ young people are among our most vulnerable clients and residents. They have faced discrimination, stigma and greater challenges in finding their community of belonging. Pictured is Cinn, our Student Residency Officer at the Shepparton Education First Youth Foyer, proud to #shareitpurple. Cinn says Finding a place to live at our Shepparton Youth Foyer means joining a supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environment for rainbow young people". 06.01.2022 Scott Dalfonso is just 39, but he's seen more grief and trauma than most of us see in a lifetime. He's lost three newborn children, endured a bitter relationship breakdown and struggled with schizophrenia. On top of all that, for the past five years he's been homeless, caught in limbo as he battles to secure stable housing. Despite this, or because of it, Scott's story is one of resilience.... As part of #HW2020, Shepparton News journo Charmayne Allison spent time with Scott and his mother Mae, who has also experienced homelessness. Listen to his story here: https://bit.ly/31tYwDT Content warning: podcast contains discussions of suicide and infant loss. Rodney Braithwaite
