25.01.2022 In honour of the Indigenous students last year who taught me so much. I wonder what I will learn from this year's group?

24.01.2022 Deb and I just delivered our Managing Mental Health in the Workplace course to Dept of Fisheries. It went really well with great feedback and maybe the opportunity sometime in the future to it again. This is a very real issue that all managers, supervisors and organisations need to be trained in. Well done fisheries for recognising the need and doing something about it.

22.01.2022 Workplace bullying destroys an organisation's ability to remain competitive, customer focused and innovative. All essential ingredients to the success of an organisation operating in the 21st Century.

20.01.2022 A happy CEO said this without being asked. Made my year really to see the appreciation of what I do and how I work. Thank you Greg.

20.01.2022 Local government workers are probably the most under-valued workers in our community. When you really get to know how much work they have to do with ever decreasing resources, your opinion like mine will change about them. To me they are the most important level of government as absolutely everything they do effects my daily life. Yes, state and federal taxes and policies effect me too, but let's get real, they the people who make those taxes and policies are so far removed from my life that you could employ algorithms to replace them. In fact I think the tax department is already doing that. So here's to the under-valued local government worker, you have my respect and my admiration.

20.01.2022 Beyond IQ Blog is bragging about their results. Actually others are raving about us and we thought we would share the good news

19.01.2022 The following appeared in the Northern Territory Local Government Association Newsletter, written by a participant and organiser of the training. Introduction to Leadership Council staff from Katherine Town Council, Roper Gulf Regional Council and Victoria Daly Regional Council attended the Introduction to Leadership course on Friday 11 November in Katherine. ... Presented by Allan Adams from Beyond IQ, the day included a range of modules which challenged participants' thinking about their workplace relationships and goal setting. In an effort to achieve clear communication with colleagues and clients, they also explored how to communicate effectively and deal with conflict, in particular how to deal with their own reactions and as a leader, how to de-escalate conflict. The content was both challenging and revealing as it critically examined participants' reactions to certain situations and seek the source of their emotional responses. Feedback was positive and participants are eager to participate in further sessions. For councils who are interested in finding out more about Beyond IQ, visit Allan's website http://www.beyondiq.com.au/allan-adams/ To express your interest in future courses contact Angela Pattison- Governance Trainer at LGANT

19.01.2022 Beyond IQ Blog using your brain to get what you want is tonight's topic

19.01.2022 No person's suffering is more than any others. We should never think that our life is worst than any others. Compassion, love and belonging is what we all need. I have had a blessed life and continue to live it today.

18.01.2022 Beyond IQ Blog is talking about how everything I thought I knew is one great big lie that my own brain has been telling me!

17.01.2022 My keynote presentation on day 2 of the LGMA Aspiring Leaders Conference delivered earlier this year. I hope you enjoy it, learn from it and share it.

16.01.2022 Just spent the week delivering this customised course to over 120 staff up north. There were tears, lots of laughter and incredible personal insights for all. It's the regular small changes that we make that make the biggest difference in our lives.

14.01.2022 Beyond IQ Blog is discussing why the need to become an expert in business is an out dated approach (in our humble opinion)

13.01.2022 Last week we delivered our workshop "Conflict Resolution: A new way of thinking about an old problem." in Tom Price and Paraburdoo. So much discussion was generated within each workshop it was a bolt to the end to get through the content. Obviously a crowd engaged with finding new practical ways of dealing with an everyday part of life. It was great to be asked to deliver this workshop and to work with a great bunch of people. Thank you Shire of Ashburton. We look forward to being of service in the future.

12.01.2022 Beyond IQ Blog is ranting about calls to action

10.01.2022 Imagine giving up ten minutes of your busy week with your team to use that ten minutes to talk about the stuff that actually matters. You know stuff like, what's annoying each member, who needs help, who did something great this week and stuff like that instead of the normal boring 'oh not another meeting', meeting. Imagine what would happen.

10.01.2022 I really enjoy my work as most of you know and always promise to be honest with my clients. So last week I was totally stopped in my tracks when I was asked by a client at the start of a 2 day training, 'what did I not like about the training I deliver?' Wow, I thought. What do I not like about what I do? Well, after a few minutes the answer came. As the answer passed my lips it became more evident that this was probably the most important question I could have been asked in ...all my career. I had an incredible moment of insight as I heard my voice out loud. The insight and the real answer to this question was I "really don't like it when I stand in judgment of someone who doesn't want to be there in the room." You see there is usually someone who doesn't want to be there and they can sometimes be very difficult to manage. Usually everyone knows this person doesn't want to be there and they dread it every time this person speaks or sighs so loudly everyone can hear. They usually disrupt the learning for everyone. My insight was to understand that this person deserves to learn just as much as everyone else and my standing in judgement of their attitude was a bigger obstacle to their learning than their attitude. I think having had the question put to me and me being honest in my response made for a better 2 days for at least 2 people. I think everyone benefited in the end. Thank you Tracey. See more

09.01.2022 "Since I have been working in local government I have been sent on many courses on various subjects and a variety of instructors, But I have never enjoyed and gotten so much out of a course than I did out of this one. Allan the presenter is the best that I have ever had. He got everyone involved and at the end of the two days everyone was like best friends which has never happened on any other course. The time went so fast, there was never a boring moment. Once again I can't speak more highly about Allan's presentation, excellent." John Brough City of Swan

All positive feedback from the executive and managers about the process and the outcome of increased staff engagement. We are always grateful to our clients for the work we do for them. Thank you City of Nedlands. You have an awesome community of staff and it was a pleasure working with you all.

07.01.2022 Another successful Indigenous Leaders Program delivered for South Metro TAFE. They were an incredible group to be with for 9 days. I was honoured to be their le...cturer and they honoured me with an Indigenous name and so much more. It's groups like these that make me love my work. Working with Indigenous Australians is, in my opinion, an absolute privilege and honour. I look forward to doing work with them and getting to know them and their culture better. See more

04.01.2022 Beyond IQ Blog uses neuroscience to quickly explain why your boss scares the begeebers (is that even a word) out of you

04.01.2022 You don't need a 'dream' in life, you need a vision of what your life is going to have been about. It's what makes everyday worth living, especially the days that are like walking through molasses.

04.01.2022 For three years now I have had the privilege of facilitating a formal Certificate in Aboriginal Leadership Development through Challenger Institute. The course ...has been recognised nationally as a 'first of its kind' and last year I was invited to say a few words at the graduation ceremony. This is what I said: Einstein famously said, There is no more powerful force in the universe than an idea whose time has come. He’s single greatest idea about our universe has shaped our existence as a species for the last 100 years and will continue to do so for as long as physics remains a part of our human endeavour to understand ourselves. Each and every one of you was an idea which was born into the world. At the time of your birth, there was no knowing who you would become, what you would achieve and who you would impact. You were simply put, just an idea full of mystery. From before your birth, you have shaped the lives of those around. Decisions were made and actions taken all to ensure that the idea of you would have the best chance to become the reality of you. In the moment that the idea of you became the reality of you, the hopes of a better future were bestowed upon you. And so now, here you sit. The idea that became a reality. The idea whose time has come. In this short space of time that our lives have been a part of each others, I have seen the potential and the reality of the better future that was bestowed upon you. I see people, humble people, who have made a difference knowingly and unknowingly in the lives of those around them. People who want to continue to be the better future for our world. In these 9 days I have been the recipient of so many gifts that have touched and moved me. I have stood before you as your teacher and all the while, been your student. You have taught me about me and I thought I already knew me. As a former student of this course said, This course has taught me about how to put forward the best version of myself all the time. This is what being with you has taught me. In these 9 days I have stood in front of eleven of the most powerful forces in the universe. I have stood in front of eleven ideas whose time has come. And if you feel for a moment that you are not that which I say you are, for you are just one small person in a vast ocean full of more important people than you, which I know some of you are prone to feeling, then realise this; that in feeling this way is to diminish the hopes of the better future bestowed upon you. Would you want your children to feel this way about themselves? Your life was never meant to be about you, it was, is and always will be, about the people around you and the impact you have on them. In these 9 days I have stood in front of eleven humble people who faced the challenges of this course and have undeniably grown. I will miss you. Having this time with you I will always remember you with the fondest of memories. Thank you for being my teacher.

02.01.2022 On 27th May Deb and I will be presenting the following paper at John Curtin Institute of Public Policy. Please share this with your HR friends and colleagues The social cognitive neuroscience model, SCARF, can be used to explain the occurrence of bullying, reduce its impact on victims, and modify bullying behaviours to reduce the likelihood of its occurrence. SCARF (Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, and Fairness) is a neuroscience model of behaviour motivation based u...pon the reward and threat pathways within the brain’s neural network. It explains how human behaviour is affected through the perceived loss or gain of any one of the motivators. When the model is applied to bullying, it can reveal both the hidden triggers for the bullying behaviour and the underlying processes that result in a person feeling intimidated/bullied. The model also has profound implications for healing the wounds from these interactions, for both parties. See more
