23.01.2022 Everything that can be invented has been invented - Charles Duell, Commissioner of the US patent office, 1899 Not sure I agree with you Chuck, but sometimes it is hard to consider what next? At Beyond IT we are big fans of HP and whilst their latest offering - the Sprout - uses existing technologies, it does bring it all together in an interesting form. Hopefully we will see this product hit our shores sometime in the next 12 months. You can check it out here:

20.01.2022 COMPETITION ! For your chance to win one of four $50 iTunes vouchers, just like this page. There is one winner every week for four weeks. The sooner you like the page, the more chances you have of winning.... And, if you dont use iTunes but you win, then just nominate your preferred charity or not-for-profit organisation and well make a contribution to them on your behalf instead.

20.01.2022 I CAN SEE WHAT YOU SEE .... Most people who work in IT use some sort of software to remotely connect to their customers computers and solve problems. But when you think about it, there are many situations when it can save time or just make life a bit easier - if only you could show someone else what you can see on your computer. We thought this program is an easy to use program for just that. Like most stuff there is a free version with basic features and a commercial version that has some extra bits. Give it a go - https://join.me/ and tell us what you think....

19.01.2022 END OF YEAR To all our clients, partners, suppliers and facebook friends, we trust that this financial year has been a prosperous one and that you enjoy the challenges and opportunities in the year to come.

18.01.2022 Busy Busy Busy. Kick off the New Year with a change!

17.01.2022 SKYPE - COOL DEVICE Do you Skype? Awesome, isnt it? But I must admit, it isnt always practical - especially if everyone is gathered around the computer screen for a group or family conversation. It you would rather Skype from the comfort of your own lounge and use your existing LCD/Plasma TV then check this device out. Its an all in one unit that utilises your existing TV. Sometimes simple is clever.

14.01.2022 E-MAIL COMMON SENSE Use caution when opening e-mail attachments.... Email attachments are a primary source of virus infection. For example, you can receive an email, even from someone you know, with an attached file that is disguised as a document, photo, or program, but is actually a virus. If you open that file, the virus will infect your computer. Virus writers often find new techniques to spread their malicious software, so you should use caution when opening attachment...s. If you receive email attachments that you arent expecting, consider replying to the sender and asking them to verify that they actually sent the attachments before you open them. Be careful when clicking links in messages..... Deceptive links in email messages are often used as part of phishing and spyware scams, but they can also be used to transmit viruses. Clicking a deceptive link can take you to a webpage that attempts to download malicious software onto your computer. Use caution when deciding whether to click a link in a message, particularly if the message body seems very vague and nonspecific, such as a message reading "Check out our vacation pictures" with no information personally identifying you or the sender

12.01.2022 LESS WIRES + MORE WIRELESS Ok, so we all probably agree that having wireless internet access in your own home is quite convenient. Many homes have ADSL with a wireless access point on the modem. But for some homes the signal just doesnt make it to all the rooms where you really want to use it. Annoying, isnt it? If only there was a way of extending the range of the wireless.. WELL CHECK THIS OUT... Recently we had to solve this problem for a customer with a BIG house and we tried the Netcomm Powerline Wireless Kit. (Netcomm are an Australian company who have been making modems and other stuff for over 30 years). It uses the electrical circuits in your house to create an extra wireless access point in another part of your house. You can get them through Harvey Norman or Officeworks (just dont tell them we sent you!!!) To learn more about it go here http://www.netcommwireless.com/product/powerline/np206

11.01.2022 NOTHING TO DO WITH COMPUTERS This site - www.kiva.org has nothing to do with I.T. - at least not directly. But still check it out. A brilliant idea, creating opportunities around the globe...

11.01.2022 DO YOU OWN A SMALL BUSINESS? Do you need to get paid "on the go"? Portable EFTPOS units are ok but expensive. Check this clever idea out. You can now turn your iPhone into a portable EFTPOS device. Brilliant. http://www.paymate.com//index.php/onthego/payma/what-is-it

10.01.2022 Do you want a LAPTOP or a TABLET.... Why not get both? A laptop that converts to a tablet would be great. Seen it before? Maybe not. Here is a cool new idea from Asus - a laptop with a double sided screen. Simple but effective. Why didnt someone think of this sooner.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFgUmiDX4Yo

10.01.2022 WINNER - WEEK 3 This weeks winner is Kristie Misdom. iTunes gift card winner for week #3. Only 1 more week to go.

10.01.2022 Lets play HYPOTHETICAL. We love to play hypothetical. Hypothetically, imagine that right now your hard disk just crashed. You know, the one where you keep all your family photos or maybe your business files; did you lose anything? If you did lose something, was it important? Would it take long to recover what was lost? Can you recover what was lost? In the real estate industry they talk about the 3 Ps - position, position, position. In the IT industry we talk about the 3 Bs... - backup, backup, backup. Maybe its time to look at how you manage your digital information? Trust you are having a great day (at least better than the hypothetical day described above).

07.01.2022 WINNER - WEEK 4 Our final winner of an iTunes Gift Card is Chris Stingle. Thanks everyone for participating and liking our page.

06.01.2022 Ransomware? What is that? Ransomware is a type of software that is designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid. Sounds like the sort of stuff you only see in the movies or on TV? Think again. In 2015, Australia was ranked the third most affected country by ransomware. We were also ranked third for the most number of users who clicked on an email attachment or link that led to being ransomed.... (Maybe this statistic is a reflection of our trusting and laid back culture..) At Beyond IT, we have seen evidence of ransomware in all of its forms. One thing is for sure, there is no one specific pattern or delivery method. We think there are two things you need to do to reduce the likelihood of getting ransomed: 1. Make sure you have good quality anti-threat software (anti virus, anti-malware, and so on) 2. Always wear your common sense hat when reading emails and surfing the web One last thing. Have you heard the old Real Estate term of the three Ps Position, Position, Position? Well in IT we talk about the three Bs Backup, Backup, Backup. So if it is important to you, then back it up!!!

02.01.2022 Imagine if your motor vehicle insurance company rang you and said, Hey, we noticed a problem with your car that means when you go to use it tomorrow, it wont work. But dont worry, we are already repairing it for you. Imagine if your home insurance company rang you and said, Hey, we noticed that your heater has a fault. It needs to be replaced quickly or the house will catch fire. But dont worry, we have already called an electrician to fix it for you. At Beyond IT, we ...proactively monitor our clients servers and networks, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our monitoring systems check over 22,600 items across our client networks EVERY HOUR.
