22.01.2022 The ISO COVID 19 (lazy) look Good morning friends, I write this post from a hospital bed which I have become well accustomed to for the past 4 weeks. I am not suffering from COVID! In short I collapsed 4 weeks ago and was shocked to find out I needed a heart pacemaker. Being involved in the medical device industry I was, not surprisingly interested in the brand and how it was implanted and would work. To date I have needed it to be fine tuned several times, but over time I wi...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Can you recall the last time you had a "gut feeling"? Ever wondered about the scientific validity of these feelings and how they affect decisions and emotions, or in fact your overall well being? Increasingly scientific evidence shows that there is a distinct link between the gut and brain-often referred to as the "gut-brain axis" or "mind-body connection". Do you think that your mood can be influenced by the bacteria in your gut (referred to as your microbiome) and if it can... be modified by diet? It is hard to believe, but the gut is connected to the brain by a network of nerves that can transfer information in both directions-through communication channels using the bloodstream (hormones and signaling molecules) from the gut to the brain, and using hormones produced by the brain signaling down to the gut. Many of the gut signals reaching the brain will generate gut sensations (the most obvious being a feeling of fullness, nausea, and feelings of well being), but these signals will also trigger responses of the brain that are sent back to the gut, generating distinct "gut reactions". The brain stores these reactions that will be used in the future when making decisions about the people we associate with and the way we make critical decisions. Both gut feelings and gut reactions are aspects of the brain-gut bidirectional network that affect our emotions, mental health and well being and ability to make intuitive decisions. So why are our emotions and mental health intricately linked to the gut-brain axis? In simple terms the gut holds the body's largest store of serotonin-the "feel good" hormone. Serotonin plays a vital role in managing sleep, appetite, pain sensitivity, mood and overall well being. In fact serotonin (the signaling molecule) is one of the main targets of antidepressants. What role does your microbiome play in this gut-brain axis? The type and number of bacteria in the gut (and their genes) have been shown to influence the development of certain neurological and degenerative disorders, your general mood and mental health. Any disruption or alteration of this finely balanced environment (by for example diet or use (overuse) of medications) of the microbiome, can therefore, be responsible for depression, anxiety and other mental disorders. Hard to believe? Ongoing research into this exciting area of science and medicine may one day see mental health and other diseases being treated through modification of your gut microbiome rather than by using antidepressants and other drugs. So, perhaps we all need to pay more respect to the bacteria in our gut and how they interact with our brain... the gut-brain axis is amazing. For those interested more on this topic I highly recommend the book: "The Mind-Gut Connection" by Emeran Mayer, MD. See more

11.01.2022 The recent call out and acknowledgement of the heroic efforts of the front line doctors and nurses fighting this pandemic is admirable However, perhaps what is ...happening in the world will change our perceptions and attitudes to whom we call heroes and realise that these staff have always been heroes Let’s get our children to understand the significance of the work that they do is far more important and inspirational than football players We also need to recognise the heroic efforts of the scientific and technical teams behind the scenes- the pathology scientists and technical officers , the blood collection team, the radiology staff and pharmacists Doctors rely on these staff to diagnose, treat and monitor the patients. These staff are equally at risk dealing with potentially infectious samples on a daily basis. When this pandemic is more under control and we return to the new normal I sincerely hope that we all recognise that we can do so much more and much quicker and cost effectively if the world medical community continues to collaborate and share information. Let’s put people and world health before profit. Let’s hope that we will be kinder to each other.. this is a unique opportunity for a kindness revolution, more compassion, less selfishness, a realisation of what is really important. We are seeing a positive use of social media- I hope this trend continues! Congratulations and thank you to those of you who are contributing to helping others in physical and emotional ways I am sure this is what social media was intended to do! The number of likes and Insta fame are fleeting and irrelevant. I do hope that COVID 19 will bring about positive world change, make us more resilient and teach us more about the importance of collective love and health! See more

02.01.2022 Cast your mind back over your life for a moment and recall a time when you were sure things in your life were 'Falling Apart' . And now bring yourself back to t...he present moment and consider how what you experienced back then has actually HELPED you now. . Perhaps in hindsight you can see now as your more evolved self that things were actually 'Coming Together' when you were so sure back then they were falling apart. . I invite you to lovingly RECALL this simple lesson when things feel heavy and contracted & you tell yourself things are falling apart. . I invite you to gently remind yourself that the ONLY constant is change. . Breathe into the knowing that The Universe is unravelling around you and within you in absolute perfection, right in this very moment . You are receiving the lessons you need for your growth, however painful they may be, each painful experience is here for us to grow. . HOW we respond to these growth opportunities and the story we tell yourselves is up to us. . How do you want to frame your experience? . What story do you want to run? . What's beyond the story? What's behind it? . What happens if you rest your attention there. behind the noise and drama. . What happens if you Trust? If you breathe into the moments when you want to close and turn away from the world, and Choose to stay open to life's lessons instead? . With love x See more
