25.01.2022 Coming in at a long 23cm! This little lady has been very generous and donated her hair! I asked, why do you want to donate your hair? Answer was, to help sick kids that really need wigs. This young lady has a heart of gold THANK YOU WHERE DO THE PONYTAILS GO? When ponytails arrive at the Sustainable Salons depot (either from our member salons or from individually-mailed donations), our team sorts and grades EVERY PONYTAIL BY HAND according to length, colour and hair... type this is why filling out your Ponytail Donation Form is necessary, it helps us get those pretty ponies to their destination much faster. The ponytails need to be sorted into various categories because each recipient we distribute to has different requirements depending on how they process them for wig-making. Sustainable Salons does not receive any funds for the collection or sorting of ponytails. We do all of this FREE OF CHARGE, so that those in need receive the maximum benefit. Charitable Organisations, We send ponytails to charitable organisations such as Variety the Childrens Charity and the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation (AAAF) to be made into charitable wigs or to fund life-changing programs*. As high-grade ponytails are super valuable, these organisations sell them to wig-makers and use the return to help fund life-changing programs (including providing wigs to kids!) across their amazing platforms. Independent Wig-Makers We also send ponytails to local, independent wig-makers to be made into charitable wigs. These wig-makers work directly with clients they find through connections with hospitals, and local community and support groups. These clients are mostly adults, so the wig-makers can work with shorter and coloured hair because adult hairstyles rarely require the long, virgin-condition ponytails that childrens wigs do. 21.01.2022 Beauty is starting back up yay! We cant wait to welcome all our lovely clients back to have all their treatments again. First up we wish we could be like our little fairy waving her wand and fit everyone in right away. ... BUT... Please please remember we had to cancel all those people that had bookings at the end of March through to now! They have been place in order on our waiting list to be the first clients to come back and have their beauty appointments. We also have a wait list for all those that have been contacting us. Please call and leave your name , number and appointment type on the answering machine if we are unable to pick up the phone or also DM us here or on face book. Due to being busy we arent able to get to the phone 100% of the time. Online bookings & MINDBODY app will open up as soon as we have caught up with our wait list. 10am is our start time 6 days a week. We love to try and get our training and meetings done before we open. So please understand if we turn you away while training is in progress. In the past we have let our Keen clients in to book appointments and we have missed out on making the most of this time we have allocated to educate staff. We also can not take walk-ins as we need all contact details when you attended your appointment for hair and beauty. 03.01.2022 We have had the most beautiful act of kindness last week. Becky Noordink is one of many locals that thought about "Paying It Forward" She was walking past after a quick visit to the post office and said, " Bec can you put some money on a clients account that you think is in need of some kindness?" I said "sure who do you have in mind?" Becky said "well who do you think...Essential Workers?" Lots of people come to mind that have closed their business or have lost their job.... I did think about our fantastic nurses, police, volunteers & teachers that are going through trying times. I also thought about our lovely elderly too. One person came to mind. She is a Nurse & has been testing people for Covid-19 in Albany. I couldn't imagine how hard that would be gearing up every day to test people and stay strong when you know what's going on around the world with the high chance of medical staff falling ill with this horrendous virus. It was a delight to let our Nurse know that she has $25 on her account to spend on what ever she liked on her next visit. She was so surprised & very grateful! Becky Noordink, people like your self really do make wonders of the world by bringing such joy & kindness to people that have endured soo much stress & much more. When you left after putting the money on our Nurse's account, you got me thinking. It doesn't need to be a coffee & cake. It can be for anything at all from our local businesses in Mt Barker. There are many people that have also caught the Ugly Brunt of this Virus that may need cheering up. It could be a IGA employe that gets a fuel voucher, someone that works for Aged Care or at the Hospital. A local volunteer, police, teachers may like a voucher from the local News Agency or a IGA. Our Little Cosy Town Has A Lot To Offer! Any way it's just a thought that one of our readers might act on to spreed the love & local support like our Becky.
