25.01.2022 This week is a very crucial week here at BFS Gym. We are 7 days out from testing which means its DELOAD week. . What does it mean and why does it matter? Our bodies recognise training as a form of stress.... So recovery is needed to give time for our body to rest and recover to prepare for the next training load. All this allows us to reach new goals and smash new PBs. We still want to remain active, but just reduce the volume and intensity. #teambfsaustralia



25.01.2022 Testing Week Why do we test? If you ARENT a beginner to the gym, you are going to need more than just exercise to improve.... When you test your strength and conditioning in the gym you set a benchmark in which all training sessions can be scaled, allowing you to measure and manage your workouts so that next testing youre setting personal bests. Without this, youre simply exercising without any real purpose or goal. Showing up and just burning calories has a shelf life so dont get caught in that mousetrap. 18.01.2022 How to select starting weights for a new training block. We get this question a lot at BFS Gym and our answer is light enough to allow you to progress for the following 3 weeks. Yes, this answer is rather vague, but there is merit to this method.... We need to focus on progressive overload, it is as simple as that. Most people overdo it by loading the bar too much and not leaving any room for progress (potentially injuring yourself and regressing progress entirely). Then, some people under-load the bar and dont get the most out of the training block. How much weight do I put on the damn bar? 1If you have never performed this exercise then we must build competency. Play it safe; choose a weight where the movement is performed with great technique. Load increase from there can range from 5-10% a week depending on the exercise. 2 If you are familiar with the exercise, review your progress via our team app, attempt the load from the previous training block and progress with a 5-10% increase each week. By the 4th week you should struggle to add weight to the bar and complete required reps, but you should still be able to do it JUST. If you find you are adding weight and not struggling, keep this in mind for the next training block and choose a higher starting

The active ingredient in coffee; caffeine has many amazing effects. Yep, that's right coffee is magical. These include:... . . - The nervous system: Caffeine activates areas of the brain and nervous system to improve focus and energy, while reducing fatigue. . . - Hormones: Epinephrine (adrenaline) is the hormone responsible for the "fight or flight" response, which can increase performance. . . Fat burning: Caffeine can increase the body's ability to burn fat via lipolysis, or the breakdown of fat cells. . . - Endorphins: These can increase the feelings of wellness, and give you the exercise "high" that people often experience after working out. . . It also has some benefits when used outside the gym, particularity when it comes to fat loss. The two main challenges people face when dieting is managing hunger and energy. 03.01.2022 Does your shoulder hurt when you press? Training with an upper body injury is an all too common sight in any gym. Often any type of pressing movement will cause pain generally in the front of the shoulder or a pinching sensation in the shoulder itself. Even though shoulder pain is common, it doesn't mean it has to be the end of your training. It simply means we have to modify.... Modify your overhead press to a landmine press. Swap out your normal grip bench press for a close grip. Introduce reverse fly's rather than regular fly's. Training with an injury is easier than you think. Just because you're injured doesn't mean you have to stop.
