01.01.2022 GOLD COAST FISHING REPORT 17/18th August 2019 GOLD COAST OFFSHORE FISHING.... Wow, what a week with awesome weather and hot fishing!! Loads of big Snapper now ...showing up on the close reefs, plenty of Snapper on the 36 fathom reefs and 50 fathom reefs and as I said last week... Those big Yellowfin Tuna have been smashing the lures out around the Sea Mountains, 70kilometers east from the Seaway and in 800-1200 mtrs deep. Lets start with whats been happening in close in on the 18 and 24 fathom reefs... this week there have to been huge Snapper caught, just like the snapper that Bob caught this week in the picture below, a solid 95cm Beast! This past few days there has also been a few solid 60-80kilo Black Marlin schooled up on the 24and 36 Fathom reefs. They have been smashing live baits and small snapper on the way up into the boat. The fishos on Avenger charters have been catching Snapper, Treg Jew and some solid sized Cobia this past week. Rossi off Lucky Strike Charters has also been bagging out on Snapper and Pearlies this past week on the 36 and 50fathom reefs. The current has been fluctuating this past week out wide , zero movement one day and nearly 2 knots the next day. Again there has been plenty of Tusk fish on all of the reefs at the moment. Out in the deep water the cod and Blue Eye have been biting well. Plenty of nice sized Spanner Crabs in that 50mtr depth east of Jumpinpin to east of Broadbeach. NORTHERN BROADWATER / JUMPINPIN AREA. Finally we have seen some movement in the Flathead this past week up around the Jumpinpin area. With some decent sized fish being caught around Tipplers and Tipplers Channel. With the size averaging around 45-70cm ( nice sized eating fish ). Trolling small lures has been working well and also casting vibes like Zerek Fish traps and Samaki Vibelicious. This past week those bigger Tailor have been in the surf gutters along South Stradebroke Island. Catching them from both the shore and off the boat and casting back into the surf ( when conditions allow it ). Try for Bream around Crusoe island and Jacobs Well foreshore. BROADWATER AND BEACHES This past week has again seen some nice sized Squire ( small Snapper ) caught throughout the Seaway. Tusk fish have been caught along the deeper edges of the main channel heading north from the Seaway. If you are into casting small lures or soft plastics, try around the northern end of Wavebreak Island for Tarpon. There have been a few Calamari Squid around the Seaway, WaveBreak Island and the weed beds of the Broadwater. Arrow Squid have also been caught in the deeper channels throughout the seaway and Broadwater. This past week the flathead really started biting well around the eastern side of the Aldershots. Well done to Dicko from Zerek lures and Wayne from NuLook Floors for winning the Flathead Top Gun Shootout Competition last Sunday with a couple of Beast Flathead caught around 80cm and then a 90cm to top it off ! This past week the Whiting also bit well in the Nerang River and around the sand banks on the high tide opposite Aqua Building at Labrador. There have been a few Tailor in the Broadwater at night around the old deep hole opposite Runaway Bay and along the main channel edge near Seaworld, run in tide is best. Tailor have also been caught this past week along the Spit at night in the deeper gutters . SOUTHERN GOLD COAST.. Most of Tweed has plenty of Bream along the walls, especially during the night. Flathead are starting to show up along the shallow flats and weed beds at both arms of the Tweed River and Currumbin and Tallebudgera Creeks. Try for Tailor in any decent deep gutter in the surf from Cabarita to Ballina. Also worth trying at Burleigh Heads and Tugun area. FRESHWATER DAMS.. Amazing, the barometer rises again this week and those big Beasty Hinze Bass are back on the chew, check out some of the pics from Mick Horne below from a recent trip this week up on the Hinze Dam. WHATS ON!! To coincide with our recent deep Water Jigging Seminar, we are still running 30% off all jigging lures, Micro jigs, tackle and rods. We also will match any price on reels from any Australian Internet company ( if we have it !))) Ps. See you next Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Brisbane Boat Show doing the Fishing Masterclasses. Please be safe out on the water this next week and enjoy with your family and friends and respect nature. Doug Burts Tackle World Gold Coast. Shop 4/142 Brisbane Road. Labrador. Qld. 4215.
