24.01.2022 We are all very proud of the string ensemble - playing as a quartet for the DET International Student Awards last Thursday. Bravo girls!!
23.01.2022 We have a YouTube link for the wonderful 2019 tour to Europe! Many saw some footage at our A Little Night Music December last year. Here is more! https://youtu.be/XrhLN0uWeTM
22.01.2022 Just a reminder to all continuing BEP members that we are holding our usual orientation day next Tuesday, January 28 from 11:30 to 2pm. Both students and parents are very welcome, to hear a little about the years plans, organise the ensemble(s) to join, try out for a senior group, maybe even try a new instrument! There will be some refreshments served towards the end. ... If it’s not possible to be there, you can still enroll by following the link below and completing our on line enrolment. https://forms.gle/SVTLgfN647wkkUtn7 Mary and I hope to see you there! Cheers Andy
20.01.2022 As 2020 starts to settle, we have some news: over 70 year 7 students have joined the BEP! Rehearsals are up and running and we are slowly getting used to using the library system to sign out instrument hires.
16.01.2022 The shutdown of schools, home school, distance education and the whole corona virus pandemic has effected everyone. The parents and players in the BGHS Ensemble Program have had regular contact from us via email, and the ensembles have had challenges, tasks virtues to do while all our rehearsals were suspended. Girls having instrumental lessons went to online lessons in the most brilliant manner, with all most 100% finds it an easy and fun process, even if there technological... challenges. With the return to school in NSW, emails have gone out and nutshell is what is on. Week 5. Instrumental lessons remain online, but times move to out of school hours. No ensemble rehearsals, as the girls have this weeek off to reorganise themselves, find music, attend classes, do school work and sort transport out. Week 6. Instrumental lessons remain online out of hours. All ensemble rehearsals restart. Many thanks need to go to the terrific support given to the girls by parents, tutors, conductors and school staff during this time. There have also been some casualties, namely tours and performances. The senior ensemble tour to Canberra, stage band tour to Port Macquarie, and Inner West Schools Music Festival were all cancelled, due to the ban on excursions, and internal activities. Next terms activities remain on the books and we hope that restrictions will have eased by then so they can go ahead.
16.01.2022 Happy New year everyone! Ave been busy repurposing the storeroom pigeon holes, sorting out instruments for our new year 7 players, getting music into order and organising our google classrooms for each ensemble.
15.01.2022 We are up and running! Rehearsals start next week, so now is the time to get the instruments out, oil and refresh mechanisms, reawaken those playing skills and look forward to a year of music making. Anyone wish to complete enrolment forms, go to: https://forms.gle/zSWKeDjpt3ocXLHn6... And to hire or rehire go to: https://forms.gle/s98Q8YDmnvNGZMYx9 Daily notices will remind our players of what is on and when, plus the new ensembles that are getting going. This includes an intermediate string orchestra (Vivaldi Strings), reconstituting the Brass ensemble, and (by request) a recorder group. (Lets all save the recorder jokes for later in, OK?)
14.01.2022 Ensembles are well and truely back and active, the girls are enjoying seeing friends and making music.
14.01.2022 Photo day for the BEP. We filled the stand and still had more musicians to sort out! Loads of fun for a top group of young musicians
14.01.2022 After a full of tech rehearsals, getting lights, Sears, music and musicians into order, the livestream gone awry, and technical issues have made a live broadcast on YouTube impossible. Please accept our apologies - the entire concert - including compare jokes - is being videoed and will be available by the end of the week! Cheers... Andy
12.01.2022 Dear players, family and friends of BGHS Ensemble Program. This page was set up (attached to my personal FB page) in 2015, initially for the Hawaii Music Festival tour and since then to share nice pics of what we’ve been doing. As I have now left BGHS it is not appropriate for this page to continue. I will be archiving the page on Monday June 3rd, so if anyone would like a record of it after that please let me know. I would like to say thanks to everyone for making the Ensem...ble Program truly marvelous one which now attracts students to BGHS and that has become a great asset to the school. I firmly believe in school music at every level and its role in shaping who we become as people - both intellectually and emotionally. Over the past five years I’ve absolutely loved seeing the personal achievements and team triumphs and all the fun and friendships that have come out of our Ensembles. I hope and trust the music and the joys will continue to flourish! Genevieve Campbell
12.01.2022 Most parents will have already seen the letter from school announcing new leisure’s to protect students and staff on campus from tomorrow. This is to confirm that all ensemble rehearsals are suspended now. There is opportunity for some activities to be provided via the google classroom almost all ensembles now have, so please ask you daughter to keep an eye on their emails and check into all their google classrooms regularly. I will continue to be at school Tuesday - Thursday..., and Mary Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays. Girls are more than welcome to approach us with questions or to just drop in (in a spatially distanced way) today hi and beg for TimTams... but no promises! Some of us have been eve, opting out sweet tooth for a long long time! Please stay safe, make positive use of time and I hope to see everyone soon! Cheers Andy
12.01.2022 UPDATE. This is to pass in the information communicated to parents and ensemble players yesterday. Currently, the 2 largest groups in the Burwood Ensemble Program have suspended their rehearsals. This was necessitated by the requirements to conduct social distancing, which is not possible with the large bands the school is justly so proud of. Performances for International Day have been postponed, and both the Senior Band tour and all ANZAC activities are cancelled.... All other ensembles will continue to rehearse. Instrumental tuition will continue. In the event of school closures, lessons will go online via Skype, Zoom or other app that allow video and sound conferencing. Individual tutors will contact parents to organise the lesson times and platform to be used. Likewise, members of to the Senior and Concert Bands should check their emails and google classrooms for information, links, and eventually activities. These will be in lieu of rehearsals. If there are school closures, the same will apply to other ensembles: online activities to encourage all students to continue their practice and explore music and performance in general. Hopefully, we can find some good within the unfolding crisis of COVID-19. The first suggestion to band members is to sign up to the Berlin Philharmonic’s digital concert hall. There is a current offer of a month’s free access to everyone, so this is a wonderful opportunity to hear one of the worlds greatest musical ensembles play. Even when there are over 100 players on stage, this ensemble works together like a string quartet, communicating intimately, with players being freely expressive a well as supporting their colleagues. More updates as they happen. Cheers Andy
12.01.2022 Hello All! Yes, the Ensemble Program page is back up and running! With the end of 2019 fast approaching, 2020 is being planned, final activities for the year running hot and the office has the air con running 24/7 to cope with all the energy being put into things. With the FB page going again it will be yet another source of information for students, parents and friends.... For now, thank you so much to all. There are some who deserve a special mention: Genevieve Campbell, who ensured the program will continue into the future and has clearly been a true inspiration to the girls, Mary Bonaddio whose knowledge of all that goes on has been invaluable for the past 6 months, Mrs Kumar and the executive of the school, who have been so welcoming and supportive and all the parents who have generously given so much time, effort and support to the program. It would not work without all this help! Finally, this week is our final rehearsals for 2019, including some prizes and obligatory chocolate, Presentation Day of course, ‘Andy’s never ending pack of TimTams’ music library project! (The girls know what this is - or they don’t read daily notices ) More news as it happens! Cheers Andy

The repertoire will be somewhat challenging, and based on the string quartet literature. Any girls wanting to tryout are welcome to attend. Tuesday. Recess and study time. 10:15 in room 23. Stage Band. Welcome back jazzers! We have room for more saxes, more trombones and a trumpet. We would also love to have a guit...arist who can read charts. We have some terrific swing and funk pieces to look at and are planning (at least) an impro workshop and touring to one of the jazz festivals. (Did I mention you all rocked at presentation day last year? Special mention to the trombones in the school song - the quaver lines were amazing! Makes an old band leader all choked up and teary it was so good) Tuesday, 3:00-4:00. Junior Band. Please stay tuned! We need to make sure you all have your instruments, music and a few notes under your fingers to start! Meanwhile, here’s an image of my music stand and what is on for practicing...

08.01.2022 In a manic term, we have now managed to get all our ensembles recorded. Today’s final session was Vivaldi Strings, who knocked it out of the park in a single take. Their effort was outstanding, including one injured member making a special trip to school just to play - true commitment! A few online performances of singers and winds remain to come Each piece is edited, our 2020 Big Night Out/In will go online for families to enjoy. Keep watching this space as it updates and announces our next concert - online of course...

07.01.2022 Our revamped chamber strings - a string quartet performing at the Sydney Conservatorium for the DET International Student Awards. Bravo girls!
03.01.2022 Term 3 was challenging for everyone, students and staff alike. One of our highlights was senior band’s final rehearsal of the term and farewelling our year 12 members. Naturally, rather than be feted, they decided to conduct the band rehearsal, roast the various instruments, and finally make the most heartfelt and genuine comments about the importance of making music. Brava ladies!
02.01.2022 Very proud of Lauren Pearson who played a moving Last Post and Rouse at the 2020 Sandakan Memorial Service this morning. A wonderful demonstration of her commitment to ‘Not for ourselves alone’
