18.01.2022 Hi everyone, All my photo tips have all been consolidated in one spot. Check them out on my new blog: http://bluegeckoimages.com.au//photo-/facebook-photo-tips/

18.01.2022 Before entering a photo competition first you must: 1. Check the "Rules" or "Terms and Conditions". 2. What is the first thing you think of when you look at the topic? 3. How many images can you enter.... Once you understand the rules including the topic decide whether you're going to shoot a new photo for the competition or are you going to select a suitable image from your library. Once you have picked or taken the suitable images go through a process of elimination. By this I mean choosing the BEST image from the ones you've selected. Ask yourself are you PROUD of this image. Is it worthy of an enlargement? Is it sharp? Has it been cropped/composed correctly? Is there anything "Hanging" in or out of the image that is distracting? What is the first thing you look at when you see the image? If it passes your scrutiny ask someone else for their opinion. Once its passed this process then you know it's OK to enter. Onto your next image. This is the most vital step. Are you listening? PICK A DIFFERENT SUBJECT FOR YOUR NEXT IMAGE AND REPEAT THE PROCESS ABOVE. Why? Because you've picked your BEST IMAGE of that subject. There's no point in delivering your 2nd best or worse your 3rd best as well. Have fun entering photo competitions.

11.01.2022 Most DSLRs have Auto White Balance (AWB) as well as several presets such as, daylight, shade, tungsten etc. Here's a tip on getting better white balance. If you use AWB on say 20 images, the camera is going to change the white balance 20 times. It's possible to have 20 different results. If you use a preset, the camera won't alter anything, giving you consistant results. If you had used the AWB and got 20 different results, you now have 20 edits to do. If you had chosen a preset, even if it was wrong you only have to correct one and the same correction is applied to all the other 19. The only time I use AWB is when I have to take a photo indoors with a mix of daylight, flash &/or artificial light. Why? Because there is no preset for this.

09.01.2022 Latest Tip up on my Blog

08.01.2022 Hi Guys, Haven't posted here for a while but I'm hoping to change this. We've all heard of "Chimping". That's when a photographer takes a photo on their camera and immediately looks at the result. Sometimes they forget why they were taking photos of in the first place and miss an opportunity that is unlikely to happen again. It happened to this lady left of screen....watch and learn. https://gfycat.com/HarmoniousPlasticEft... The game is Kickball a variation of baseball but played with a soccer ball.

01.01.2022 Check it out.......it's baaaack!
