18.01.2022 ATO Data-Matching Program The ATO has announced that it will be acquiring details for the period 20 September 1985 to 30 June 2016 from various share registry services. The type of data the ATO will collect includes contact details, purchase and sale details, and quantities of shares acquired or disposed of. It is estimated that more that 95 million records will be obtained, including the records for approximately 1.2 million individuals. These records will then be electronic...ally matched with certain ATO data holdings to identify any discrepancies. The ATO says the program aims to identify income tax returns that may not include accurate information relating to the disposal of shares and securities, especially in relation to Capital Gains Tax. It is important to ensure you have provided your accountant with all of your dividend information and your purchases/sales of shares each year. If you believe your information may not be complete contact us to help you put the right information together.

17.01.2022 PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST SCAM-DALOUS ACTIVITY The ATO is providing taxpayers with simple ways to protect themselves from scammers as part of Stay Smart Online week. See the link below for further information.

16.01.2022 SuperStream is the new system by which all employers will eventually need to make superannuation contributions for their employees. Under this system, employers will need to make super contributions electronically. The contribution data is sent electronically to the fund, and the contribution payment is also sent electronically through the banking system. The data message and payment are linked by a payment reference number, which enables reconciliation by the receiving fund.... For employers with 20 or more employees, SuperStream started on 1 July 2014 and they have until 30 June 2015 to implement the changes. For smaller employers (with 19 or fewer employees) SuperStream starts on 1 July 2015. Small employers can start early but have until 30 June 2016 to implement. The ATO recently sent small employers some information about SuperStream to help them get started. They are advising employers there are a number of steps they need to take to prepare for SuperStream. Every business is different and employers should look for a solution that best suits their business needs. Should you need assistance please dont hesitate to talk to us. 8379 9501

05.01.2022 The ATO are currently looking at the cash and hidden economy. That is, businesses that dont report income or pay cash-in-hand wages to avoid tax or super. Over the next three years they will be reviewing restaurant, caf, and takeaway businesses they believe arent doing the right thing. They will: - look for lifestyle and spending habits that outweigh business income... - compare businesses against the small business benchmarks - review third party information such as bank transactions, and compare it to what businesses have reported - investigate information provided by employees and the community. Ensure you keep your tax records up to date, and accurate. If you think you may have made a mistake, contact us on 8379 9501 to assist you in correcting it. Make sure your employee records are accurate and all superannuation obligations are up to date. Ask us about the benchmarks the ATO are using.

04.01.2022 In the last week we have had two clients contact us in respect of phone calls from organisations pretending to represent the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). In both cases they have suggested that there is legal action pending and that to stop this you need to provide personal details and/or pay an amount of money. Should you get one of these calls or an email, DO NOT respond to them. We have spoken to the ATO and there are a number of scams around at the moment. These are j...ust two examples. It is not the ATOs method to leave threatening phone calls suggesting legal action is pending. It is suspected that these calls are for identity fraud so providing personal details will result in your identity being compromised. If you receive any of these calls or emails please contact us and we will liaise with the ATO to report them and ensure that you are not bothered again hopefully. As your tax agent any correspondence or communications from the ATO should be coming through us so that we can deal with this on your behalf. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us on 08 8379 9501.

03.01.2022 Governments Child Care and Early Childhood Education Relief Package The Federal Government has just announced a relief package for the child care and early childhood education sector (child care sector). The relief package is designed to: provide free child care to around one million families; and... ensure that as many of the child care sectors 13,000 child care and early learning services as possible keep their doors open for families that need to work and to support vulnerable children during the Coronavirus pandemic. The Prime Ministers Media Release also advises that, families who have terminated any childs enrolment since 17 February 2020 should get in contact with the relevant centre to re-start the childs enrolment. Furthermore, re-starting a childs enrolment: will not require families to send their children to child care; will not require families to pay a gap fee; and will hold the childs place at the centre for the point in time when things start to normalise and families are ready to take their children back to their centre. In a separate media statement, the Minister for Education, Dan Tehan, also indicated that means testing arrangements to access the child care subsidy for those who are working during the six-month Coronavirus pandemic will no longer be in place. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact our office on 08 8379 9501.
