25.01.2022 Covid19 update We are currently receiving advice from Golf Australia and The R&A about how the game of golf can continue to be played in the current pandemic situation. Both bodies have come up with suggestions that we can implement so that any hygiene issues can be mitigated and golfers can still get their weekly fix. Our committee will look at these at the next meeting, so providing we have no further restrictions implemented by our government, our season will start on 9th ...of May. Stay safe everybody.

23.01.2022 Happy new year to all of our members and supporters.

22.01.2022 The last couple of weeks have been hampered by some wet weather. Last week three of the nine starters pulled out after nine holes. Of those who finished, Colin Brislane was first and Glen Miller second. Today's turnout was only six, so we decided on a skins game, but after the rain set in on the eleventh hole we decide the racing on the tv was a better option.... Next week is the last official round for the season. Toovey Classic, 2 person ambrose. Tee of at 11am, so be there at 10 for registration. Good prize money up for grabs, all the way down to 6th position.

21.01.2022 Another fine day on the golf course, although a strong easterly wind played on the minds of a few of us. We had four gents come over from Toodyay for a hit, to make numbers up to 14. Combined stableford with hidden partners was the challange of the day. Luck of the draw saw Peter Anderson (36) and Dave Carter (34) come out on top with acombined 70 points, they just happened to be the best two individual scores for the day. Second was Dave Duncan (32) and Mick Press (30) with acombined 62 points Toodyay's LeSteere cup open day is on Sunday 23rd, followed by Bakers Hill openday on Saturday 29th.

21.01.2022 And now for something a little different! Not sure what to call it, but it worked well. 15 of of turned out for a fun day on the course. It was a ambrose/combined stableford for want of a better discription. All players teed of, and the best drive is chosen as per ambrose. From then on each player played an individual stablford. The two best scores where then combined for the score on the hole. So whilst there where a couple of puzzled looks at the start, at the end of the d...ay two groups had 91, one group on 90, one on 87 and the other on 84. The winners being Rod, Peter and Matthew on countback over Mick, and visitors Geoff and Heather. The sseason is winding up soon, with onky a few weeks left but we have room for one more big day. The Toovey Classic is on again, this year it is 3rd October. We are reverting back to a two person ambrose for this year, with prizes going down to 6th place, so plenty of opportunity.

20.01.2022 Not an easy decision to come to but it is the best one at the moment. The latest advice we have received (Today) in regards to playing golf is "golf cannot be played in WA in groups of two or more, unless those people normally reside together." This advice is WA specific and may be different to other states. Golf Australia are continuing to monitor changes from the Government and Health department and will update us of future developments. The full details can be found on Go...lf Australia's website https://www.golf.org.au/covid-19/. In the meantime, Stay Home and Stay Safe ever body. If we do the right thing now we can return to normal sooner.

15.01.2022 Fourteen players battled out the second championship round, with nobody having an outstanding day. There were a few players in the mid to high seventies, and a small cluster in the low seventies. Derrick Swingler and Peter Toovey both had 71 net, with Derrick winning on countback. Rod Anderson won the putting comp with 22 putts. Our open day is scheduled for the 29th August, more details later.

15.01.2022 Bakers Hill Open Day 2020 edition. After the season looked doubtful due to the pandemic lockdown in March, we ended up with one of the biggest fields we've had for a few years. 41 starters came from far and wide to attend. Whilst some of the travelers where regular attendees, we had a contingent from Pickering Brook who where first time visitors. Thankyou to all visitors for attending. Special mention to our sponsors, Verlindens Electrical, Dunnings Fuel, Blackwell Plumbing, ...Avon Valley Garden Services and Thirsty Camel Northam. Notable achievers of the day where. Best unplaved visitor, Steve Johnson 36 pts Best unplaced local, Peter Toovey, 36 pts Best Veteran, Mick Press Gross runner up, Rod Anderson, 31pts Net runner up, John Hecker on countback to Russell Jenkins, 39pts Gross Winner, Chris Harris, 34pts And Finally, on his first outing at Bakers Hill, Tony Questel with 40pts. Congratulations to all the winners and to those who didn't quite get there. Next week is the Rosebowl at Wundowie, Sunday. No golf at Bakers Hill.

15.01.2022 Australia Day/Pressie's Birthday. Thanks to Mick Press for organising today, and a happy birthday goes to him as well. Today saw a smaller field than we have in the past, with 20 starters and there was some good golf played all round.... Winner on countback with 40 points was Matthew Parker. Runner up was Garry Muzollo (El Cabello) also with 40 points. There was a fair percentage of the field in striking distance of the winners. I would like to say that Matthews chip in for birdie on number 15 was the shot of the day but Garry had gone one better with a hole in one on the same hole. Thanks to Ian and the team at El Cabello, the course has come along really good over the last few years and is pleasure to play.

14.01.2022 Six players made it out into the sunshine today for a stroll among the trees. Most golfers a familiar with the term "Rub of the green", well at Bakers Hill it's more like "Rub of the trees". An unfavourable bounce of a tree can cause a golfer no end of trouble. The player with the most favourable bounces of trees today was Jeremy Parker with 41 points. Derrick Swingler had 34 points for second.

14.01.2022 Comment of the day. "If I'd known it was stroke I wouldn't have come". A cooler day with a brisk shower of rain half way putting the dampener on things, the golf was less than inspiring all round. Personally I took 5 holes to warm up, birdied #6 and it went downhill from there. Of the twelve who turned up to play, the best net score was Derrick Swingler with 74. Peter Toovey 2nd on count back to Colin Brislane both on 75net. Thank you to Michael Hine for donating some prizes... for the day. Next week there is no golf at Bakers Hill. Toodyay have their Bendigo Bank day on Saturday, 2 man ambrose , 10am registration for 11am hit off.

13.01.2022 This weeks numbers swelled to 14, the sun was bright, but a cool easterly breeze made it a bit uncomfortable at times. A good percentage of the field managed to score in the low to mid thirties, but is was club stalwart Peter Anderson who lead the field with 38pts, followed by Derrick Swingler on 36pts.

12.01.2022 Last competition event of the year, The Toovey Classic, was a two person ambrose. Visitors today where from Beverly, Wundowie, Toodyay and Lakelands, thankyou gents for coming up. Winners today where local legends, Dave Carter and Colin Brislane with a net 54.5. Second where Dave Cockman and Chris Harris on 56.5 and third where Dave Gordon and Bruce Shaw, so those who didn't have a Dave in their team missed out on the major places. As prizes went down to sixth place John Hecker and Ian Jupp (4th), Peter Toovey and Rod Anderson (5th) and Eddie Willis and Terry Woods (6th) also get a mention. Next week is windup, 9 -9.30 for a 10am hit of for a fun 9 holes, then a bbq lunch and presentation.

12.01.2022 Our run of fine weather on saturday continiues, with 13 players enjoying the sunshine today. At the risk of sounding repetative, Peter Anderson came in with 38pts, but was beaten on countback by Colin Brislane. Rod Anderson had an unlucky 36pts, with his drive on 6 being burried in a bush, leading to a rare wipped hole for him. Next week there is no golf at Bakers due to the Ranger Cup at Wundowie on Sunday. 10am registration for 11am hit off.

11.01.2022 Belated post for last couple of rounds. 30th may saw 8 players out battling the course, and it must have been a real battle. Best score of the day was Rod Anderson with 31pts, which is possibly the lowest winning score in a long time. On the 6th June we had a respectable 12 starters. With the relaxing of the covid19 restriction, golf started to feel a little more normal. The scores showed an improvement with Peter Anderson having 38pts and Michael Hine 37pts. Next week we are looking at returning to fixtured events. As the other clubs in our district are only just getting underway there will be a bit of a shuffle in the fixtures. The rosebowl has been pushed back and our round 1 of championships potentially brought to next week. Will get the fixtures up later, but be aware that further changes may be made.

11.01.2022 Fixture change. The Rosebowl has been moved towards the end of the season, so next Saturday will be a club day at Bakers Hill.

10.01.2022 Today was the 90th running of The Le Steere Cup at Toodyay, a tradition that should be held in high esteem. Whilst it was the Toodyay boys that took out the net, congratulations go to Rod Anderson as gross winner with 33points.

10.01.2022 Today saw 11 players out for strole around the park, (and a fair bit of bush walking in my group). Best scores were again 39 and 38 points, but it was Glen Cox and Mick Press who finished on top.

09.01.2022 Golf is a go, with restrictions. The relaxing of the WA governments restrictions on gatherings means we can have larger groups on the course. We are still unable to open the bar or provide catering. The interpretation from WAGolf is we can play in groups of three or four, or up to ten if in an ambrose. We can have more than ten players on course, so long as no group ecxeeds ten. There will still be a ten person limit inside the club house. The competition will be a simple for...mat, with the official fixtures not adhered to unless further restrictions are lifted. First round is Sat May 9th. Members will be emailed full details. If the club dosent have an email adress for you, let me know. Strict social distancing will be in place and some rules have been modified buy golfs governing bodies to allow for this. More details later.

08.01.2022 A low key start to golf this year. 9 players turned up to test out the modified rules and new handicapping format. Rod Anderson proved that you need neither a flag or a handicap to play golf, coming in with a 39 point best score of the day. (3 birdies and 1 eagle). Jeremy Parker followed on 38 points.

07.01.2022 Its that time already, for those of who need to dust of the clubs you have 2 weeks to do it.

05.01.2022 Eleven champions of the sport turned out for round three of the club championships. Some of us took a little longer to get into the swing of things, but some impressive golf was played overall. Winner of the day was Steve kelly with a net 64 followed by Mick Press on a net 66. A reminder that there is no official golf at Bakers next week as it is The Le Steere Cup a Toodyay on The Sunday.

04.01.2022 There is nothing better than the sound of rain on the roof, AFTER you've finished your round of golf. There was a couple of light showers today, butmost of the day was fine. Today we played a random stableford, that is the holes counting towards your final score where chosen at random after play finished. So as a special mention, Glen Cox had 38 points for has effort today, but didn't make a place. As we had eleven players, eleven holes where drawn at random and scores calculated front them. The winner with 20 points was Jeremy Parker, with Derrick Swingler 2nd on countback to Colin Brislane on 19 points.

04.01.2022 10 people turned up for walk in the park, with some or them actually playing a bit of decent golf. A par round today for a change, with Peter Anderson playing a steady game to come in at +3. Matthew Parker was second with +1, probably lucky that somebody lost his ball on the last hole and finished square.
