24.01.2022 A big milestone today that I would like to share with you from the bottom of my heart... here is my first published meditation on the Insight Timer app! Insight Timer is the worlds largest free meditation app, where you can access guided meditations, music, and talks from diverse genres by diverse leaders and artists at any time, and for free I love what they do, so I am thrilled to be able to share free, transformative meditations with you and the world from this awesom...e platform. 22.01.2022 In these times, a daily meditation is one of the most valuable things that you can do for yourself. Why? Meditation trains the nervous system and the mind to better manage stress and remain more present in the moment, rather than getting as easily caught up worrying about the future, or stuck in negative thought patterns. It anchors you to the sense of centredness and strength that comes from within, helping you to remain clear-minded and connected with yourself even in the f...ace of challenges and demands, and uncertainty. This doesn’t mean you don’t ever react or feel pain, and this certainly isn't about trivialising challenges - it means that you can better face challenges without feeling as strongly overwhelmed or consumed by them. It also gives you greater control over stress reactions or fear-based reactions, which can so often take over when emotions and stress are running high. A Being technique is also deeply restful, and so valuable when you are feeling exhausted. The combination of these things make meditation one of most powerful things you can do for yourself right now. BUT it’s important to know that what I’ve just mentioned comes from meditating regularly on an ongoing basis ideally once or twice a day, so how about challenging yourself to meditate for 15-20 mins every day for the next week? If you need help with creating a regular practice, or are wanting to go deeper, reach out and let me know. If you don’t already meditate, you might be surprised at how easily you can pick up a Being technique and how quickly you notice positive changes. One of the most effective and easy to pick up techniques that I know of for dealing with stress, and feeling more steady and less reactive (even in the face of challenges and demands), is the 1 Giant Mind Being Meditation. These times are challenging all of us in ways that none of us could have imagined, and I sometimes wonder how I would be coping and feeling if I didn’t have the self-tools and resources that I have now, especially my meditation practice. I feel incredibly privileged to be able to share this skill with others and see the difference it makes during this massive shakeup. 15.01.2022 What I’ve learned from R U OK? Day, that I thought I would share in the hope that it may help you too I can remember a time in the past when I really struggled with R U OK? conversations I had the best intentions but I just didn’t feel equipped to say the ‘right’ thing if the answer was no. I’d get scared of not having the best answers to help, and would worry about what to say next. Or I’d feel silly asking if the answer was yes. It held me back. What I’ve come to learn... over the years since then, is that you don’t need to have all the answers and be perfect to support someone in a meaningful way with compassion. To ask. To listen. To encourage seeking help. And to follow up. Absolutely all of us can do this for each other especially when we have the basic awareness of how to do it in a helpful way. This is where R U OK? Day came in for me. The resources on the R U OK? website were literally the first thing I found that said it in a real-life simple way that gave me the confidence to do so they have free resources on their website that show you how to recognise when someone might not be ok. How to approach the conversation. What to say. What to say if the answer is yes. What to say if the answer is no. How to support. In a plain, simple, easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember way. So if you haven’t already, I highly recommend jumping on and familiarising yourself with the RUOK? 4 steps and take the time to dive deep into their resources. Go to ruok.org.au and click the tab across the top How to Ask. Then explore to your hearts content. The second thing that I want to mention, with today being RUOK?Day, is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). Several years ago, I didn’t realise that MHFA training even existed. When I found out about it and completed my MHFA training, we all said the same thing I wish I’d learnt this years ago, and why hadn’t I heard of this sooner? I highly, highly recommend doing your MHFA training I think it is just as important as basic first aid, for all of us, but a lot of us don't realise how easy it is to go ahead and upskil ourselves to help. So. To me, R U OK? Day is about empowering and equipping ourselves to help each other. If you are feeling the same as I once did wanting to help but not knowing how then I hope this post has inspired you to know that there are simple, easy ways that you can help exactly as you are, without needing all the answers: 1. I encourage you to familiarise yourself with the 4 steps on ruok.org.au asap 2.
