24.01.2022 Some absolutely amazing work from former BHS student Katelyn. So proud to see the work you are doing in the industry, keep up the excellent research.

24.01.2022 Year 10's working the wethers

22.01.2022 The boys have moooved outside. The year 8's did a great job of preparing the shelter with a nice thick layer of sawdust and after a bit of a struggle to encourage them out of the shearing shed they realised their new home has lots of grass.

22.01.2022 It was a busy Friday on site with a visit from the lovely Kate from Mt Crawford Polwarth's to assist with some important vaccinations for our lambs and to give some advice on selecting which of our ewe lambs we should look at keeping at the end of the year (very proud that the animals the students had chosen were the same animals Kate suggested).

21.01.2022 Cain is officially for sale. Fingers crossed we can find this stunning boy a new home. Feel free to share with friends and family.

20.01.2022 Very excited to say that our 7th ewe lamb for 2020 and likely our last lamb for the season arrived this morning to one of our Mt Crawford blue tag ewes. As she is still a little wary of us, we will not tag or weigh the lamb until next week to allow for a stronger bond to form.

18.01.2022 For any past students who may be interested.

17.01.2022 The heats are done and dusted and we have been called up for our first pen in the finals (22 pens out of 70 have been selected). Very excited.

16.01.2022 Even as day-old chicks, their size difference is noticeable. The yellow fluffballs are broilers (average 60g) and the brown are ISA brown layers (average 35g).

16.01.2022 3 weeks on and the young layers have moved into a bigger pen where they're enjoying dust bathing in the saw dust and perching on the posts.

15.01.2022 End of day exhaustion is setting in. The students have worked wonderfully today with a 7.30am start and what is looking like a 5pm finish. On to the thank you's and the results.

15.01.2022 A big thank you to Alan for coming out on Wednesday to crutch our show wethers and rams and demonstrate shearing to our Year 9 Agriculture students on some older wethers that will be leaving the site in the next few weeks.

13.01.2022 Sometimes the lambs think they know better than the ewes

13.01.2022 Our ewes and lambs were patiently waiting for the students to be back up to see them. The lambs are growing very well.

10.01.2022 It may be a very different year this year thanks to COVID, but thankfully some events are still running for students. Today saw our 6 wethers head to the showgrounds for the 2020 SA Merino school wether competition (which we hope will be broadcast by the show society tomorrow).

09.01.2022 In just over 2 weeks, most of our ewes have lambed (Amy today with twin rams). We have 3 ewes left to go, but are unsure if they will lamb or not. Lots of rams this year with only 6 ewes being born, but many healthy and fast growing lambs. One ram lamb is already weighing in at 9kg only 9 days after his birth

09.01.2022 Today was vaccination day for the lambs, which we incorporated with a change of paddocks. In a few more weeks we will seperate the ewes and lambs to allow the ewes to recondition after all the love and feeds they've provided to the lambs.

08.01.2022 The live results

06.01.2022 How do you play to get through lunch?

05.01.2022 Happy National Ag day (in a very different way). This year we have selected 4 ewe lambs and 4 ram lambs to retain for the future. Once again we are asking for name suggestions and this year the magic letter is E. Please post name suggestions to the individual image and voting will take place with the year 8 and 9 Ag classes in week 8.

05.01.2022 This year, the Adelaide Show did not run. Thankfully, the SA Merino schools wether competition was able to occur under strict COVID regulations. Although our animals are still small compared to some schools, they are by far the best that we have shown and the students were all brilliant in their representation of the school. Congratulations to all involved.

04.01.2022 We would like to say a huge thank you Rodney Herrmann for his kind donation of a Holstein Freisian calf. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago Milky became sick and even with a lot of Vet and staff intervention, he did not get better. As cattle are herd animals, our biggest concern was finding a friend for Milo. Although they look very different to each other, Milo and the new calf have bonded with each other. After class votes across the 2 year 8 Agricilture classes, we would like to introduce you to Damo.

03.01.2022 Top 8. Unfortunately we didn't make it into the top 8, but top 22 out of 70 is still an amazing result. Congratulations to 3rd Lucindale ex 44 2nd Cleve ex 34 1st Karcultaby ex 25

02.01.2022 So much room in the shed this year. Even our wethers were listening to the rules and instructions for today.

02.01.2022 What a difference 2 weeks makes. Upon arrival, our broiler chicks were around 60g. Today at a 2 week weigh in, they're an astounding 440g. The layer chicks for the year 9's arrived this morning and will be fed on the same feed to see just how much influence genetics has on their growth.
