23.01.2022 The Trained Nurses League represents the thousands of nurses trained at Ballarat Base over the past century. Nurse training in Ballarat commenced in October 1888, with the incorporation in 1926 of a midwifery training school. There are over 150 members of the Ballarat Base Hospital Trained Nurses League still living in Ballarat and today they continue to support the work of BHS. The League through its’ philanthropy, raises funds for nursing scholarships, hospital equipment an...d for the Ballarat Base Trained Nurses League Samaritan fund. BHS Foundation is extremely grateful for their contributions and also thanks the people who support the League and their many endeavours and achievements throughout the years. 22.01.2022 Kitchen Quarters, our new Café at BHS, is not only an inviting place to enjoy a coffee and cake, but is also proving to be the perfect location for handknitted goods which have been donated to BRICC to be displayed and sold. These pieces have been made and donated with love by the Ballarat Quilt Grans and Marion & Donna from Dunolly. Proceeds from the sale of these beautiful knee rugs and beanies goes directly back to BRICC, helping fund the Wellness Centre and the wonderful services they offer to cancer patients.

19.01.2022 Josh Coleman, a BHS employee who is currently carrying out screening at our entrances, has kindly donated a piece of artwork featuring Talbot Place back to Ballarat Health Services. The piece was given to his Grandfather, Mr Lloyd Cooper many years ago after he visited the facility each and every day for twenty years to visit his Mother Louisa Cooper, who resided in QEC for that time. Thanks to Josh and his family for the thoughtful donation, the piece will soon be hung on the wall at Talbot Place. Such wonderful history within our organisation, many stories to be told.

10.01.2022 The Fundraising & Engagement Team have been busy little bees the past few weeks getting organised to mail out the 2020 Christmas Appeal. This year, funds are being raised to purchase a new bus for BHS aged care residents. The existing bus is extremely outdated and doesn’t accommodate the current needs of residents to attend day trips and other outings. Even Santa Dave is on board this year in lending a hand, keep an eye out for the upcoming appeal.

07.01.2022 BHS Foundation has recently purchased ‘Tap n Go’ terminals to continue to raise funds which advance the facilities and programs at Ballarat Health Services. Quest Donation Point Tap allows the opportunity to accept donations electronically and securely at any location by simply waving your bank card in front of the machine. We are thrilled that our Tap & Go terminals are now operational in the Kitchen Quarters Café on the ground level at BHS with a pre-set amount of $2 for all donations. This provides an easy, complete self-service way of collecting donations for BHS Foundation. Make sure you check them out next time you are collecting your caffeine hit.

06.01.2022 The Combined Charities Christmas Card Shop is set up once again in the lead up to the festive season. This year, the stall is located in the Kitchen Quarters Café on the ground floor. The shop is run by a wonderful group of friendly volunteers, selling beautiful handcrafted products including tea towels, cards and other giftware. The stall raises funds for the hospital and with the support of the volunteers is a welcome addition to BHS for staff, patients and visitors to make a Christmas purchase for a great cause.

03.01.2022 BHS Mental Health Services would like to give a virtual high five and say thanks to Reclink Ballarat. We were bowled over when Andrew Dunn, Central Victorian Sports Coordinator served up two boxes of sports equipment to BHS, which have been generously donated under their Reclink Connect and Reclink Sports Share programs. Reclink Connect is designed to keep communities connected and as engaged as possible during COVID-19. Reclink works to rebuild lives through sport and arts, a wonderful initiative to help promote social inclusion and new opportunities.
