24.01.2022 Ring of Roman Governor Pontius Pilate, who crucified Jesus, found in Herodion Site in West Bank. The ring was found during a dig led by Professor Gideon Forster from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem 50 years ago, but only now has the inscription been deciphered. However, there is doubt over whether a 'Governor' would have worn such a mediocre quality ring.
22.01.2022 A researcher has found that a Frenchman helped translate some of the more difficult passages of the Bible, on the 1611 King James version. Note: this article says that the King James Bible was translated from the Latin into English. It was translated from Hebrew and Greek into English, not Latin.
19.01.2022 There are around 400 Monarch butterfly chrysalis in the front room of the museum (see picture), which are due to emerge over the next 2 weeks. So it is peak butterfly season here at our butterfly garden, with not just Monarchs, but also Swallowtails, Varied Eggfly and several other different species spotted in the garden this week. The museum and garden will open on Good Friday and Saturday, but closed on Sunday and Monday, as per our usual opening hours. Please contact us first if you intend bringing a group.
18.01.2022 Happy 75th birthday to Ellen today! Ellen Reid is the Bible Museum's director and chief collector. She's been collecting Bibles since 1981 and breeding butterflies since the 1970's. We very much appreciate all her unpaid hard work and dedication which has kept the Bible Museum running for the last 8 years.
16.01.2022 This carved head from the 9th century BC has been found in Israel. It is not known who he is and the field of potential candidates is large. It could be kings Ben Hadad or Hazael of Damascus, Ahab or Jehu of Israel, or Ithobaal of Tyre, all characters appearing in the biblical narrative.
14.01.2022 A 3,600 yr old Canaanite royal tomb discovered at the Biblical site of Armageddon.
14.01.2022 Rosh Hashanah - Happy New Year! On Jewish New Year the shofar (horn) is played and Psalm 27 is read. This interesting video demonstrates how a shofar is modified to be played.
14.01.2022 A journalist from the Guardian dropped by at the Bible Museum on her way to the Silo Trail a few weeks ago. There is a paragraph & photo at the bottom of the article about the museum. The silo paintings are really quite spectacular and many people stop off to visit us on the trail.
10.01.2022 An interesting (& surprising!) article in Newscorp, which is worth reading if you study the book of Revelation. Note: this article doesn't represent the interpretation of Revelation held by staff at the Bible Museum.
09.01.2022 Extremely rare evidence of Roman crucifixion in Italy - similar to the one found in Israel in 1968. Note that the nail in both cases went through the heel. If this is how the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified (through the heel) then it would be a fulfillment of Genesis 3 v15, where a prophecy is made that the seed of the serpent would 'bruise his heel'.
07.01.2022 China appears to be banning the sale of the Bible, due to concern about non-Chinese influence on their culture and traditions, even though the Bible has been present in China for hundreds of years. More can be read in this article too: http://www.radioaustralia.net.au//bibles-pulled-fr/1747188
07.01.2022 Huge 3mtr high city gate uncovered at the Bethsaida archaeological dig. Located north of the Sea of Galilee, Bethsaida is famously known as the site of Jesus’s miracle of the loaves and the fishes, as recounted in the Gospels of John and Matthew. Thousands of years earlier, however, Arav hypothesized, it may have been called Tzer (mentioned only once in antiquity, in Joshua 19:35), and was the historical capital of the biblical settlement of Geshur.
04.01.2022 The Bible helps researchers perfect translation algorithms. Their study results in Artificial Intelligence style transfer data set of unmatched quality. Thirty-four versions of the Bible and two machine learning tools are used to develop a system that can automatically convert written works into different styles for different audiences.
