25.01.2022 For families of children with disabilities in Zimbabwe, peace and new life are possible through the practical aid of food hampers combined with God's word. When Zimbabwe went into lockdown, it spelled disaster for 66-year-old Setty and her disabled daughter Lister, 26. Setty has been a single mum since her husband left when Lister was born, and the pair live in a single rented room. Setty scrapes a living as a street vendor but with no one out and about, Setty could barely pu...t food on the table. Then, support from people like you provided Setty with a crate of essential food supplies and a new Bible. It gave Setty peace of mind and the peace of God. I find comfort in reading God’s word". Through these programs you can Open The Bible for people enduring trauma and suffering. Donate today and help those living in the haze of trauma find peace: https://www.biblesociety.org.au/donate/trauma-support/ #OpenTheBible

We asked God for a child for twelve years, and now we have Pepe, and I haven’t seen him yet. I also remember that God has a plan for us, for everyone. If I try to see it on my own, I can’t. 14.01.2022 Camilla is six years old. She and her family are from a poor community in Chichigalpa, more than 100 kilometres from Nicaragua’s capital of Managua. At a hospital in Managua, she has been through five months of treatment for leukemia, the most diagnosed type of childhood cancer in Nicaragua. Camilla’s mother, Luz Marina, shares: When we arrived at the hospital we felt lonely, I had never been to the capital, let alone this hospital. We entered as an emergency and being tra...nsferred to the area of children with cancer I believed that I would not go home with my child alive." After seeing the work of the Bible Society and participating in the prayers that the pastors offer, it injected me with faith in God, a God I used to flee from. But now, in this situation I have learned to depend on Him." I want to thank each donor and the Bible Society who help so that patients and families have support, the things they need and a Bible of their own. We hold the Bible close now, and that allows us to be closer to God. Access to scriptures and support provides these families with hope for new life and relief through the struggle. 13.01.2022 Mission Update - Masterclass Our annual Masterclass event for high school students helps teens to shape their understanding of the world around the Bible. The event looked a little different this year. In the building there were lots of cameras and screens but no students. 3,500 teenagers attended via livestream and were nonetheless encouraged, challenged and engaged by Bible teachers, Mark Stephens and Patricia Weerakoon. Mark posed and answered the question "Is Christianity... still good news for the world?" and Patricia discussed "Teens, sex and the cyberworld". Do you know any teens who would be interested in hearing about these topics? Send them to http://masterclass.org.au to view the talks for free.

Half an hour later, I had a cardiac arrest, in the emergency department of the hospital. I was lying on the hospital bed, in a brightly-lit room, and all of a sudden, everything went dark. But in the darkness, there was one bright light shining, high above me. My first thought was, The buggers haven’t paid the electricity bill. 11.01.2022 Fayez, a teacher and a Christian in Syria, writes: We have survived shells, siege, lack of electricity and seeing our savings dwindle. So I’ve experienced fear before, but nothing like now. The coronavirus has heaped misery on suffering, hardship on pain. Fayez knows God can help him. But, in his trauma and fear, he cannot see a way to connect with God. I read and read the Bible, but right now I’m so far from experiencing solid faith and I’m afraid, he said.... Now, more than ever, people enduring the toughest circumstances need help. They need God’s love shown through practical kindness, God’s word to nurture their soul, and God’s peace that surpasses understanding. Syrian Bible Society provides a two pronged approach utilising both Bible-based and clinical therapy through its comprehensive Trauma Healing Program. Their program has been running for five years, and the stories of transformation are powerful. Will you support people who’ve experienced trauma, and help them find God’s peace and new life? 03.01.2022 On this International Literacy Day, we are sharing testimonies of individuals you have given the gift of literacy to, through our Bible-based programs around the world . Thank you for your generous support to help carry out our mission to Open The Bible to all people everywhere by all means possible. Testimony from Pakistan: Shabnam* an unmarried Christian woman living in Faisalabad had never attended school, she was illiterate but had to work to help feed her family and sup...port her younger brothers’ and sisters’ education. After five years working as a cleaner, Shabnam got the chance to join literacy classes at her local church. She shares how these classes changed her life: I started studying after hours in the women’s literacy class, she says. During the last month of my class, one day my supervisor at my workplace asked me to check the attendance of other workers. I checked and signed on the register. From that day, our head assigned me as a supervisor of the sanitary workers. Now my salary and status is up because of education. I am thankful for the Pakistan Bible Society, donors and my church for providing me such an opportunity for upgrading my life status. By becoming literate, Shabnam has gained a skill that can never be taken away. The literacy rate for women in Pakistan is one of the lowest in the world, largely due to the social structure that suppresses women’s rights. Women’s literacy rates vary from a modest 60+ per cent in the capital, Islamabad, to less than 20 per cent in some rural areas. Christian women, who mostly live in these rural areas, are most likely to be illiterate. This sadly, dramatically limits their opportunities and condemns them to shame, exploitation and poverty. For 30 years the Bible-based literacy program ‘Beacon of Light’ in Pakistan, has been giving Christian women like Shabnam, the opportunity to read and write at literacy classes organised by their local church. Praise God for the opportunity we have to help these women through Bible-based literacy classes, which have a profound impact. *Please note the image used is not of Shabnam to protect her identity
