24.01.2022 BABY PLAY Babies and toddlers love to explore everyday items. They learn a lot by exploring the shape, taste, sound, feel and smell of objects. Babies will have fun putting the objects in and out of the container. By talking about objects, we are helping babies build their understanding of words. MAKE A TREASURE BOX FOR BABY ... What you will need: a box interesting things from around the house and from nature. For example: a piece of material, leaves, a cardboard tube, a rubber ball, a scrubbing brush, an egg ring, a bell and an empty salt shaker. What to do: 1. Collect interesting items from around your house and yard. Make sure objects are not a choking hazard and do not have sharp edges. This is especially important if your baby is at the stage of putting everything in their mouth. 2. Put them in a box or container (for example, a cardboard carton or ice cream container). 3. Give the box to your baby to explore and discover. 4. Name and describe things to your baby as they pick them up. (That’s a shell. It’s very smooth.) Taken from Department of Education Learning At Home

19.01.2022 ‘ArtStart’ is an exhibition designed to encourage children’s participation in the visual arts, open to kindergarten to grade six students in northern Tasmania. ... This year’s theme is Connection to Place. Students were asked to explore and express the feelings that are evoked from particular environments significant to them. We get such joy seeing artwork by children on our gallery walls, and these students from Bicheno Primary were pretty pleased too! On show now at the Art Gallery at Royal Park. #ArtStart #ConnectionToPlace
19.01.2022 As an adult, it's easy to be distracted by the million things rolling around in your brain. Doing something as simple as taking a walk with your children can re...mind you to stop and smell the roses. Kids are wonderful at being "in the moment" and noticing all of the big and little things in their environment. Here's 5 things to do on a walk: 1. Look at the numbers on the letter boxes and driveways. 2. Search for a bird’s nest. 3. Notice the road signs. 4. Comment on the different gardens, trees and flowers. 5. Talk with your child about what you see, hear and notice. This activity, and many more, can be found on the Learning at Home section of the DoE website: https://www.education.tas.gov.au/lear/birth-4-years-of-age/ #MovementMondays

11.01.2022 CHICKEN DIVAS - National Simultaneous Story Time National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. It aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. This year's book was "Chicken Divas" - a hilarious story about two gorgeous chooks c...alled Whitney and Britney. WATCH THE STORY HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxoe-n9Hel4 AT HOME ACTIVITY: Use a paper plate and fold in half to make a rocking Whitney and Britney. Decorate your hen blue or pink or any other bright colours. Find some feathers in your home environment and glue these on your chooks. Draw on two eyes and cut a small triangle for a beak. Links to Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF): Outcome 5 I am beginning to understand key literacy and numeracy concepts and processes, such as the sounds of language, letter-sound relationships, concepts of print and the ways that texts are structured.

01.01.2022 The way things are done at school will be a bit different from how they’re done at home. For example, how to ask for help, how to take turns, and how to follow ...instructions. To teach your child how to ask for help, model the behaviour. For example, ask can you please help me get that ball?. You can help them follow instructions when playing games like Simon Says. During everyday activities, for example, you could ask "can you please put the tomato sauce on the bench?. Practice taking turns when doing a puzzle together or playing a game. #ReadyForSchool #TheNextStep #TasGovEducation #LearnersFirst

Children aged 6months-5 years, over 65's, and patients with SPECIFIC chronic conditions are eligible for the vaccination. Non-eligible people should phone and request a script phone appointment to obtain it from the chemist. This year for adults we are arranging a drive-flu clinic. Procedure; 1.Phone to make appointment. 2.wear a short sleeve that is easy to lift. 3. drive in one entrance. 4. stop and turn off your vehicle. 5.receive your shot. 6. drive out the exit. Children will have to be brought into the clinic-but physical distancing etc must be observed as hygiene is of course. Cheers, Bicheno MC.
