07.01.2022 Last week Bicton Travel was invited to explore the Abrolhos Islands with Eco Abrolhos. The Abrolhos Islands lie about 60km off the coast of Geraldton and consist of 122 islands clustered into three main groups: the Wallabi Group, Easter Group and Pelsaert Group, which extend from north to south across 100km of ocean. Over the 3-night trip, David explored the Wallabi Group & the Easter Group. On the first day, he heard stories about the Batavia shipwreck and the mutiny on the ...islands and also discovered the incredible birdlife that covered each island. Every morning he had the chance to pull the cray pots and discover the history of the elusive cray fishing industry that still operates to this day in the Abrolhos Islands. David also got to discover the wonders under the sea, from seeing little Nemo fish and all sorts of different colours of coral to playing with wild sea lions which David says was one of the best experiences he ever had! Each day, Jono the chef aboard the Eco Abrolhos, would cook up a storm. He would somehow find another way to cook the abundance of crayfish that they were catching along with delicious beef and vegetarian dishes and incredible salads. David says this trip was one of the best trips he has ever done and it was so close to home, he couldn't actually believe that he never discovered this hidden gem sooner!
