25.01.2022 Today, August 1st, we celebrate the birthday of most breeds of horse here in the Southern Hemisphere. Why do they all share this date? In the southern hemisphere, the weather at the commencement of September is just beginning to warm up, prompting mares to commence their oestrus cycle, or come into season. A mares oestrus cycle is stimulated by the presence of extended daylight, nature intending that foals be born eleven months later through spring and summer when feed i...s plentiful so that mares can produce good supplies of nutritious milk. Therefore, mares successfully bred early in September will produce foals in early August meaning they will all be about a year old the following August 1st. Happy birthday!

24.01.2022 Have you noticed your dog or cat seems to have become less active or sleeping more than before? We often put it down to the weather as it gets colder or that they are just getting old. Sometimes the slightest change in our pets behaviour may be be an indication of other issues occurring on the inside. If you have noticed any changes in your senior pet (those over 7 years of age are considered senior, believe it or not), why not book in for a senior health check with our vets. For the month of June, we have great specials on blood and urine testing, carried out in the clinic. You will have your results in under an hour. If you would like to arrange a visit, call the clinic on (08) 9438 1311 for an appointment today.
24.01.2022 Due to popular demand, we are extending our dental promotion into August! If you have been meaning to get your pets teeth cleaned, take advantage of this great discount

Bicton Veterinary Clinic supports this worthy cause, raising awareness and much needed funds for the Childrens Medical Research Institute so they may keep up their hard work finding better treatment options and perhaps even a cure for many of the genetic diseases that affect children. If you would like to make a donation, please visit the Jeans for Genes day website https://www.jeansforgenes.org.au/

21.01.2022 We here at Bicton Veterinary Clinic were all deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of our colleague, Dr David Priest. Many of you would have met the lovable larrikin as he was often popping into the clinic with his patients for surgery. He was a well respected member of the veterinary profession, loved by all who had the opportunity to work with him. His clients and their pets thought the most of him - he loved being able to look after them all. Our deepest sympathies to his family and all who knew him. He will be missed.

13.01.2022 DOES YOUR DOG lick, bite, chew, rub, roll, scratch or scoot? An occasional itch may be normal. However, if itchy skin is stopping your dog from enjoying activities such as playing or eating, causing hair loss or skin damage, or keeping you both up at night, then ask your veterinarian whether your dog may have allergic skin disease.... Frequent or constant scratching, licking, biting, scooting or rubbing are often signs of allergic skin disease. Itchy skin is the number one reason for veterinary visits, and the vets at Bicton Veterinary Clinic can help you identify and treat the underlying cause of the itch. The most common causes of itchy skin include parasites, skin infections and allergies. The good news is that there are safe and effective steriod-free treatments including a daily tablet or a monthly injection. Talk to your veterinarian about the treatment option that can help rapidly and effectively improve your dog's itch and inflammation caused by allergic skin disease. Once controlled, you might all get a good night sleep.

13.01.2022 We were blessed to have a visit from Queen "Fossey" today Sadly, Fosseys joints arent what they used to be, as arthritis makes it difficult for her to get her legs moving. It is for this reason we see this gorgeous girl quite regularly as she receives injections to help keep her legs moving. These regular visits mean Fossey is very comfortable in the clinic and loves her cuddles and belly rubs. Keep moving gorgeous girl.
12.01.2022 Meet Hamish - at 4&1/2 months of age, he had his first groom in the clinic with Bonnie this week. Doesnt he look handsome. If you adopt a puppy that is going to require regular grooming appointments, it is important to introduce them to the grooming process at a young age. Pups under 5 months of age are more likely to accept new things. Once your pup has completed their puppy vaccination series, they are safe to attend their first grooming appointment. If you have a pup needing grooming, please give Bonnie a call on 0435 616 412.
12.01.2022 Please be advised our phones are out of action at the moment. We do have direct mobile access so if you need to give us a call, please use 0413 172 312.

11.01.2022 We are almost fully operational with the new phone system - hopefully by early next week. We thank you for your patience.
11.01.2022 At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. Today, a minutes' silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Thank you for your sacrifice.

07.01.2022 Today, we had the pleasure of meeting Miss Mini when she came in for her sterilisation surgery. Mini is actually looking for a forever family, with the help of the fabulous people at SAFE. A little bit from the sweet girl herself: "Hello, my name is Mini. I am a Staffy x. I am a REALLY loving girl and very sweet. I love to exercise and to use my mind. I am inquisitive and have l energy to burn. ... My foster Mum says I'm really smart and with gentle guidance and patience, easy to train and keen to learn. She also thinks I would prosper with an older family or a single/couple that would include me in their lives. I think I would like, but not need an older, calm, non-reactive male doggo friend to play with and for extra company. I have a lot to give and with gentle guidance, I will be a really loyal and loving part of your family." If you think your family could provide Mini her forever home, please contact SAFE Perth: [email protected]
