24.01.2022 As #RoadSafetyWeek2020 wraps up the good news has come through that the City of Hobart has been given the green light to reduce its city centre speed limits to 40 km/h. Slower speeds mean quicker driver reaction times and less chance of people being seriously injured or killed in crashes. 40 km/h has been the norm for years in other cities and there is now a worldwide move towards 30 km/h speeds in areas with a lot of people walking and riding, like city centres.
21.01.2022 The state government is looking for comment on two new bus park'n'ride designs that will include undercover, secure bicycle parking in Kingston. The park'n'rides will be at Huntingfield opposite the hardware store and Browns Road next to the Groningen Rd bridge. Comment on the concept designs is being accepted until 2 December, and this will be used to inform the detailed designs. ... https://stategrowthtas.mysocialpinpoint.com/southernproject
18.01.2022 Give your legs a solid workout on Saturday 14 November with the Sandy Bay Social Climber ride leaving the Cenotaph at 9.30am and taking in the climb to Waterworks Reserve and foothills through Sandy Bay before heading back into the city. Suitable for experienced cyclists, with a mixture of tracks and roads and some steep climbs. Your bike will need low gears (or electric assist) and tyres wide enough to go on gravel paths. Please RSVP through the website in case of cancellation.
18.01.2022 If you are heading out today to do some Christmas shopping, it's a good idea to put the local bike store at the top of your list as some stock is already running low. Our CEO Craig had a chat to Dave on ultra106five about some of the reasons for the delays in bikes and bike parts affecting availability.
17.01.2022 Some riders may have noticed car delivery trucks putting safety cones around themselves on Campbell Street recently, which can intrude into the bike lane. This is because the trucks have a rail which juts into the bike lane at rider head height, so the cones are being put out to stop people crashing into it. The trucks have been pushed into the Campbell Street loading zone because construction on Argyle Street has blocked access to their ordinary loading zone. ... This will hopefully be temporary and they will soon be back on Argyle Street, but in the meantime please don’t kick the cones out of the way, they’re there for our safety!
15.01.2022 A charming tribute to the joys of bike riding from a retired Tasmanian teacher. Seems a shame he doesn't ride a bike when he can so clearly see all its benefits.
13.01.2022 In the Netherland where some e-bikes can go faster than in Australia, there are moves to implement technology that could limit their speed in built-up areas. The trial is also looking at features like vibrating the bike to alert the rider if there is a hazard coming up.
11.01.2022 We're helping riders to spread the love with four bike essentials kits being given away over four weeks to people who tell us their stories about how other riders have helped you out. Just head to our website and let us briefly know what your experience was.
04.01.2022 Hobart’s eastern shore abounds with pockets of bushland and this 16 km ride on Sunday 29 November at 8.45 am will take you to three hilltops, each with superb views. The 2.5 hour ride will explore local bike and bush tracks linking Waverley Flora Park, Rose Bay Hill and Rosny Hill. It’s suitable for hybrid, mountain and tough e-bikes and while the pace will be cruisy there are few hills and rough tracks to tackle.
01.01.2022 After a COVID-induced hiatus, our e-bike coffee cruises are back with the first scheduled to The Picnic Basket in Sandy Bay on Thursday 19 November at 9.45 am. This is a super relaxed ride for e-bike riders, although all riders are welcome if you can keep up with the e-bikes. The 20 km route follows quiet streets in Battery Point, the painted bike lanes on Sandy Bay Road then the sealed shoulder through Taroona along the Channel Highway and back.
